Purchased and playing. Would be wonderful if ATS could convert TSW routes into TSC (e.g. Cathcart Circle)
Been playing a lot of TSW recently. Usually 1 TSC then 1 TSW to experience both products. So nice to be running this in TSC. Seems to perform well. None of the TSW stutters (lol). Great concept. Well done ATS! AND I get to interact with AP products from my library.
It is a pipe dream more than an expectation. I can’t help wondering what the longer term for TSW is and whether it has staying power or that it may be superseded either by a different engine or another competitor. That being said since TSC still has major 3rd party relevance it will be interesting to see what happens in the future. TSW appears to be manacled by its desire to be everything for everyone. At some point this will not be sustainable (console v pc).
Will never happen. All of the good stuff is sold by 3rd party vendors. You are missing out a lot of what TSC brings to the table. It is no wonder you are less than impressed with TSC if your only source is Steam. You are missing all of the AP products. Why I just recently picked up the ICE4 from 3DZUG. If your only source is DTG/Steam then I am not surprised with your frustrations. TSC has so much to offer, however, the price is maintaining your own instance. I have pretty much all TSW product and a huge array of TSC product. One feels like a game the other is clearly a hobby/collection. For me using TSC enhancements makes the whole experience of the journey so much more enjoyable.
Personally I prefer to buy 'off steam'. The developers don't have to pay Steam (and DTG) a cut and I don't have to pay steams overinflated price where I live. Also ATS can push fixes a lot quicker without having to go through DTG. I'll be getting this. It looks like an excellent addition to my TSC collection from what I've seen so far. Pretty reasonable pricing by today's standards as well.
The price is £14.99 if you are an ATS subscriber. That's quite reasonable if it's a pro level add-on. Sadly, I have little love for the 165/166 and its area of operations, so it's not an early buy for me.
To my knowlegde the 3d model(s) from TSW has been ported over to TSC. I don't see any requirements for the European Loco & Assets pack, just TSC. He also talks about porting the models over in the video on YouTube.
Looks like an interesting replacement of one of the oldest DMU's in the game, dating back to the Kuju era. But ATS .... Does it need the compulsory ATS installer, registration and does it phone home? I want my DLC to be void of any hidden ties re number of activations and such.
It comes with a separate ATS Installer (not the infamous all encompassing installer which has been retired). It checks you have an account but not registration.
For those that have this new 165/166 and the JT Enhanced version that came with Southampton - Salisbury how do they compare?
The bearded one being his obnoxious self in the presentation of a new product didn't really convince me this is a unseen first buy for me. A model ported down from TSW? How is that even possible without access to the 3D sources? Violating DTG's EULA? The cab looks sort of OK, the saloon too, even though it is empty of passengers. Sounds and physics are hard to guess from a video with such a loud voice over by the man himself. There are more buttons to push with those advertised features, which are script based, just like the advertised realistic performance. So even though the model looks OK in the promo, I'd rather wait for an independent review. Also, AT says this is an experiment which did run past the budget. So there might be updates or a possible upgrade with new liveries, but nothing is certain at this point. Chiltern licensing issues? Without a subscription I think the price is still quite steep for a 'mid range' product, thought it will fulfill my needs for an up to date Class 166. Bring on those reviews, report bugs and how ATS deals with them.
The Manual for this product is available to view before buying and it mentions ANDGames as a maker of the project ANDGames also made the ATS 745/755 units https://alanthomsonsim.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/ATS-Class-165-166-Manual.pdf
Aren't ATS an official partner with DTG, they are doing official content for TSW AFAIK? I guess if that is the case DTG may have supplied them with the original source files.
Not a review writer. I have a lot of TSC and TSW products. Having all AP stuff this fits nicely into my portfolio (weather, fauna, rail, SWML). Keeping records of my runs on my web site as usual. Would purchase more of this caliber product from ATS. Each to their own. I know that there are some ATS haters out there. I have procured most stuff available from ATS, JT, AP, Chris Trains. RSSLO so don't consider my thoughts and likes as a normal Train Simulator player. I WILL say this. On TSC this performs MUCH BETTER than the TSW counterpart. No lag, nice fluid graphics. Sure I cant get out and walk about the station, sure the people still seem cartoonish. This is not what sells product for me. I am all about the journey and a nice smooth ride! (Never done Conductor Mode - never will)
