Is anybody playing TSW5 or TSW6 on an ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X? I'd be interested to hear whether TSW runs OK. Cheers, D.
Not on the XBox Ally X, but I do play on the older Ally X. It runs ok, definitely very playable. I set the resolution to 900p and a mix of high and medium settings and I generally get around 30fps, which is fine for me on a handheld. If you know about the Lossless Scaling program, that really improves things. It’s not the best experience, but it’s certainly playable. On a smaller screen you can turn the detail down and not notice it so much.
Thanks! As I understand it, on the XBOX ROG Ally X my choices are as follows: I can stream the XBOX version of TSW installed on my Series X via Remote Play (I currently do this on my Macbook Air or iPhone + Backbone when I'm travelling) I can play the PC version via XBOX Play Anywhere I can buy a copy of TSW + some DLC from Steam and play that Correct? In which case lots of options! If I play the PC version, my assumption is that I can install it on the device and play offline, right? D.
Yes, that's right. I mostly play the Steam PC version directly on the Ally. But if you already have the Xbox version you can either install the PC version or Stream it with gamepass (TSW5 only I think - it's a long time since I did it).
Awesome - thanks for confirming! The great thing about Remote Play is that I can stream TSW6 as well as TSW5 (or indeed TSW 2020, TSW2, TSW3, TSW4....) - anything in fact that's installed on my console (or indeed on my external drives for non-Series X stuff). My XBOX Ally X arrived earlier today, so excited to jump in!
Not to sound like a negative Nancy, but imo it’s an overpriced piece of kit that a steam deck can do for a cheaper price. The only positive thing with ally is that is has 32 ram compared to steam decks 16 ram. Setting the thing just feels like a laptop on a 7” screen. It should be more straight forward, the optimisation for the handheld is just really bad. That’s my ten cents though, I know there’s going to be people out there that really enjoy it. I hope you are too. I’m glad you’re having a positive experience with it though.
