Hello! I have a problem with the AFB in the BR 101 Expert.

I don’t get the loco running with AFB. Whenever I activate it, apply power and release breaks, first the pressure in the break cylinders got to 0, but goes up to 4-5 bars immediately after it. This happens during ride and when the train stands still. The loco applies power, but the train immediately breaks to zero speed. I didn’t find a solution in the web for this.

Does anybody have a hint for me?

AFB applies the brakes again if you don’t get going quick enough. If you’re starting with AFB, you essentially need to floor it with full throttle. Once you start rolling, you can then cut back the throttle again to the usual force you’d use.

You can see this nicely here from 1:01 on:

Notice how the driver floors it to get over AFB protection and after the cut, the throttle has been brought back to only use 25kN per traction motor.

I know im well over a year late here but I just wanted ti add my own notes because I'm currently soft-locked by AFB because its too sensitive and I physically can not start fast enough without it cutting. Max power, brakes fully released and even a sprinkle of sand to try and grip even more on initial. And i just cant get going without being tripped to 0.

Can you please be a little more clear? I dont no what you mean with a "softlock"?! And on what platform are you on? Pc/Xbox/PS.... I can not understand the issue

Edit: do you mean you can not move with the AFB enabled? So put the throttle in full power until you get a small portion of speed and then reduce the power lever to prevent slipping. And check if all brakes are released. Also small singel one on the far right. And off course you need to set the AFB in a selected speed. You have to check the red needle on the outer line of the speedometer

So the issue is im effectively locked in place as the loco with full power applied isnt physically capable of gaining enough momentum to beat the AFB lock system. I originally thought it was my own fault for running it on freight as it just isnt geared for it, however I had all empty waggons this time and the weight was only similar to a long passenger consist less than 500t

The 101 is not build for heavy freight. Besides that with freight you did not use AFB in reality. So maybe when you on route and you drive on a flat ground but when you have some hills its not a good option. But can you share a picture when you try to drive off from the cab so that i can check whats giong on? Or a video to show us what you do? That would be very helpfull to indentify the issue.

You could try starting without the AFB and then re-enabling it as you're going?

EDIT: I have read online this is indeed possible, by setting the AFB speed to maximum and the motor power to 0 it should be possible to turn on AFB while moving.

Correct but the AFB can be enabled as well in a lower selected range. Its not needed to put the AFB in maximum range
