Good morning! The Class 142 Launch Livestream is happening on Tuesday 25th November This is the official Q+A thread for this add-on! Please keep all questions related to the Just Trains Class 142. Just Trains are also doing a Preview Livestream tonight, and Thomas will be joining Jamie and Matt for tomorrow's launch stream!
Interesting, a 'preview' stream after the release... Is it still a 'preview'? Or rather more of a 'showcase'?
Ah thats good to know Why is the DTG stream not before? And is this a new step where developers will now start doing preview streams themselves?
Why is the 150/153 liveries locked to Cardiff when the Birmingham to Crewe timetable is set at the same time as the JT Cardiff one
How did JT feel this ticked their own "LAMPOIL", given the CCN route is somewhat derided due to its very short length and poor quality in places? How can you justify making a DLC for an add on where the principal station doesn't even have its concourse or frontage? Wouldn't it have been more fulfilling and more likely to attract Day One sales to do a Northern 142 and timetable for NTP? Like others, I can't see me buying this either until a deep sale, or DTG pull their thumbs out and extend and upgrade the CCN route. Out of interest, did you raise the issue of the route being enhanced in future or even adopt it from DTG to give it more legs?
+1 And, more generally, what are DTG's plans as publisher to improve third-party add-on compatibility with other third-party DLCs? As third-parties expand their footprint in the game this is becoming a big issue imo.
If this pack had been made for NTP, I would very likely be buying it. Even though I'm not a fan of the train, anything that adds services to that route or TVL is a plus for me.
Make it for Glossop Line so that route can get a busier Picadilly like MAC or New Street on BCC with it's 170 timetable, with obvious layering on MAC to sweeten the deal
It certainly wouldn’t have hurt. The TSC version mashes up the eras quite successfully with loco hauled and Pacer services. Thrashing the 142 between Manchester and Leeds would be far more satisfying than coasting at 15 MPH between Queen Street and Grangetown. In fact I will come right out and ask JT, do you think you might have blundered committing resources to this pack which might have been better deployed on other projects?
Yes, you have to ask: Why is JT bothering with a route like Cardiff, unless they were specifically asked to do it? There are several better options including NTP. Was TVL an option timewise? Their upcoming Crewe to Preston route? Since I'm not a fan of the train itself though, I wouldn't be interested in playing it on routes like Glossop or Manchester Commuter. I regrettably bought Glossop in a sale but avoided buying the latter after forum reviews.
Some borderline conspiracy theories emerging here... Yes, it's outside of their usual TSW time period, but JT have published plenty of modern-day routes for TSC so it's not like it's completely unheard of. As they built the original 142 I suspect this is nothing more than the sensible business practice of carrying out some (relatively) minor work on an existing model to keep it bringing in money. And if it does then all is well. The way I see it is that JT have adopted the "expect the unexpected" mantra and I personally quite like that JB
