I'm increasingly noticing framerate issues on multiple routes whenever there’s vegetation. It used to happen only with dense foliage and bare trees, but now it also occurs in autumn and sometimes even during the summer months. It seems that having the headlights on makes things worse on certain routes. Is it possible no one has ever noticed this? I notice it especially on these routes: Mittenwaldbahn, Semmeringbahn, Morristown, Riviera, etc., but only in the densest forested areas. Xbox Series X.
I'm certainly of the view that Crewe to Birmingham trying to emulate the IRL Network Rail linear forest and being stuffed with trees, bushes and scrubs is not helping with performance. Without access to the source files it's not possible to say what sort of poly count these items have on them or whether they are using lower poly assets further back from the lineside but something must be hitting the frame rate. I also noticed a similar thing with the JT Shap route when it came out. A good route builder knows when (and how many) detailed assets to use and where you can get away with a lesser item or even 2D backdrop to get a reasonable effect.
Since TSW6 it has got worse on my Xbox Series X, ECML was always a struggle in and out of Doncaster but now the whole route seems to be stuttering. The foliage appears in stages as you get closer.
I’ve recently had to turn the foliage quality down from ultra to high and have seen some improvement in my fps. I don’t know if it’s the age of my PC, hardware on its way out or something has happened to the game but in the last 2-3 weeks performance has definitely dropped. My laptop is coming up to 4 years old in the next few months (and it’s been used and abused a lot) so I definitely can’t rule anything out on my side causing it. But interesting to read others are noticing similar issues.
This is not really new, I noticed this too on older game versions. Especially with trees on both side of the track you will/can get stutters. I noticed this already on the TSW2 version of Dresden - Riesa for example. Autumn indeed seems to worsen this, I can understand a light beam also hit performance. On S-bahn Voralberg there are also some bad parts on the route.
Yes, it’s true. Personally, I first noticed this framerate drop in the denser forest sections of the Niddertalbahn in winter. It seems that the bare trees are even heavier on the framerate…
The dense forest on Niddertalbahn is indeed also a good example. In winter the trees on Niddertalbahn are not drawned correctly either when I play on HD mode on Xbox, there are only dots on the end of the branches. I also got the idea time of day (not meaning the TOD version here) is involved in the amount of stutter too. The version of TOD can be involved as well, TOD4 has a lower performance overall and seems to have more issues due to season and the acutal time.
