Add the iconic Class 390 Pendolino at 70% off to West Coast Main Line route Add-ons. This includes service layers for both London - Milton Keynes and Birmingham - Crewe Add-ons, the latter of which continues to receive attention in our patch roll out, with the latest released on 2nd December.

At least now the community know we categorically don't hate Xbox players, and that maybe it's a little more complicated or nuanced than that! :)

Hope you see something you like!

DTG had a choice to discount TSW5 DLC or TSW6 DLC.

If they went with the former option, people could grab TSW5 DLC and enjoy it with their TSW5 through game pass, or get entitlements for any games they own (for example, they could play NEC New York - Trenton in TSW3 or TSW4), or they could enjoy it in their newly purchased TSW6 if they wished so.

DTG however went with the latter. Since no previous game entitlements are given with TSW6 content, those who have older versions of the game are not able to take advantage of the sale. For example, I am interested in collecting achievements on the Cardiff route, but since the item on the sale does not grant me TSW5 entitlement, and achievements were cut from the DLC on TSW6, I am unable to do that.

A question to DTG Harry then: DTG had two choices to make, one pro-consumer (with former entitlements), and one anti-consumer (withholding previous entitlements), at no cost to you. Why did you go with the anti-consumer stance? Genuinely interested.

As to the selection, it is marginally better than the previous one on Xbox, but again highly disappointing. Especially so, if you compare it to the recent PlayStation sale (another console will always be my baseline for assessing a quality of a console sale).

    Current Xbox sale:
    Cardiff - 8 months old.
    Class 390 - 14 months old.
    Maintahlbahn - 24 months old.
NEC: New York - Trenton - 33 months old.
Holiday Express - 36 months old.
    Bremen - Oldenburg - 36 months old.
    Birmingham - 37 months old.
Cajon Pass - 39 months old.
    Boston-Providence - 52 months old.
9 DLC items in total; "fresh" items (newer than 1 year): 1; average item age: 31 months.

    Last PlayStation sale:
    Class 170 - 4 months old.
    Manchester - 5 months old.
    Cardiff - 8 months old.
    Mildmay - 9 months old.
    F59PHR - 9 months old.
    Pfalzische - 10 months old.
    MBTA - 12 months old.
    WCML - 14 months old.
    Semmeringbahn - 19 months old.
    Blackpool - 25 months old.
    Linke - 33 months old.
    Santa Fe F7 - 38 months old.
Cajon Pass - 39 months old.
    Kassel-Wurzburg - 39 months old.
Sherman Hill - 49 months old.
15 DLC items in total; "fresh" items (newer than 1 year): 6; average item age: 20 months.

I waited for a sale, but with this selection there is nothing interesting. 1 fresh item out of 9? Dear lord, that is as fresh as a rotten tomato.

Also forgot to say but I’m pretty Xbox still has the longest gaps between sales compared to the other platforms

It would also be nice if third party routes would go on sale. Just a question but as DTG apparently have no say at all in the times of Xbox sales, do they have a say in the content which is on sale? It's only ever DTG routes and locos which go on sale and very rarely a third party route. From a UK standpoint, it's always either Birmingham Cross City, ECML, SEHS that are on sale every time, yet I don't think MML or any third party locos have ever been on sale on Xbox.

There were sales like these. This sale has 1 TSW2 era item, the previous one in October had 1 TSW1 era route, 3 TSW2 era routes and 1 loco. If you wait for the Swiss stuff, I am afraid that it comes down to the fact that it's 3rd party content, not DTG content. Somehow steam sales always have some 3rd Party content, but consoles are mostly left hanging.

The one Route for which I'm hoping for a Discount isn't included, unfortunately. Perhaps next Time, dear Semmeringbahn.

What an absolute shambles it is advertising the 642 as a layer for Frankfurt S-Bahn, knowing full well that Xbox has a very sparse timetable for that route. Very misleading but I’ve come to expect that from dovetail.

Very strange that they only put the TSW6 versions on sale, on PlayStation every version always goes on sale at the same time, scroll down far enough in a PlayStation sale and you'll always find TSW2 versions still getting discounts.

Hi DTG Harry , could you take a look at my question about entitlement decisions above? Thanks!

I'm not sure I entirely understand the question. I don't have the knowledge on the why, but we also can't talk about the processes we have with our external partners.

To explain it, up to and including TSW5 if you bought a TSW2 route for TSW5 it would also be claimable for free on TSW2, 3 and 4, if the route launched for TSW4 then purchasing the route for TSW5 also granted it for TSW4.

With the launch of TSW6 that has been changed, so buying a TSW6 copy of a TSW5 (or older) route only grants a licence for the TSW6 copy. This isn't so bad on PlayStation or Steam because whenever there is a sale all versions of the route go on sale, for example I recently bought the TSW5 version of Mildmay in the PlayStation sale, which means I can get the trophies on TSW5 as well as play it on TSW6.

This sale on Xbox only includes the TSW6 versions of the routes, so if someone wanted to earn the TSW5 achievements for, say, Cardiff then they are now being forced to pay full price, despite DTG trying to offer it at a discount.

Hopefully excluding the older versions from this sale was just an oversight on DTGs part, are you able to check? If it's some Microsoft rule then we'll just have to add it to the long list of consumer unfriendly practices they've undertaken recently, but fingers crossed it's fixable by DTG.

I seem to remember someone from dtg said they did that because platform holders were getting tired with writing store entitlements. It's pretty ridiculous that they don't care about the player base hating redownloading everything every year, but do care about not bothering the guy who's job it is to do store entitlements with store entitlements

DTG Harry The Microsoft store is only a few items that most xbox players will have. How about the Expert DB BR 101?

is the northeast corridor worth getting without the Acela which is not part of the sale? £15 for a loco is steep and i don't tend to bother with US routes generally, but £2.50 for a route is tempting me

It’s 2.50 for a route that’s normally 24.99 so duh of course it is

This is a brilliant explanation of the underlying issue. So building on this, my question DTG Harry is: why are TSW6 versions on sale, limiting the outreach of the sale to just TSW6 players, and not TSW5 versions, that would cater to ALL players, including the people playing through Game Pass? One is pro-consumer, one is anti-consumer, so why was the anti-consumer way chosen to approach the content on sale, where nothing would be at DTG's expense, and the potential outreach would be much better? It is fine if you don't have the answer yourself, but I would love to have someone from bizdev respond, as I would like to see pro-consumer stance from the company I'm giving my money to, when possible (and this certainly seems the case).

Alternative question, if that is too hard to get an answer for: why are only TSW6 versions discounted, and not all versions as with PlayStation and Steam?

It's almost as if someone is architecting a vicious anti-Xbox cycle here. Why are the sales on Xbox rare and rubbish? Because the content doesn't sell too well. Why doesn't the content sell too well? Because the sales are rare and rubbish.

As I wrote based on the PlayStation sale - I would pick up 7 pieces of content there. But here? I either have everything, or the content is useless as this is TSW6 entitlement only on offer.
