Looks fantastic, I hope this train will layer onto their other WCML routes.

Awesome to think just a few years ago they were only working on one route (Blackpool), and now it seems they are working on multiple routes and trains simultaneously. I am genuinely so excited to see what JT have in store for the future.

I don't know if it's applicable, but does the 104 run anywhere on the WCML? The dudes who were working on the PFR Green timetable were making one before it disappeared, since they do work with JT from time to time I wonder if a deal could be struck to also bring the 104 into the game. Something I wouldn't mind paying a bit extra for either. :D

Best thing in the roadmap for me, this is pretty much a replacement for the dust collecting 104 pack

The 104 used to do Manchester Vic to Blackpool amongst other runs so yes in the Preston area.

Believe class 104s used to run to blackpool until 1988 so it would be on BPO and possibly lower wcmls near morecambe if I'm correct though the latter im less sure of.

Wow, this was completely unexpected. VERY excited by this one, the Cumbrian Coast line is my favourite line in the country (as a passenger). Hope we get Whitehaven through to Barrow or Carnforth in the future too.

Bloody hell - my "home" line! Think I said a while back I've many fond memories of being sat on the cliff/hill overlooking Parton village with my granddad, watching the trains slowly crawling round the corner from Lowca.

As mentioned above, Fry from Futurama pic to thread etc...

This is fantastic news!!! The 101 is one of my favourite units to drive in TSW and this will add some much needed variety. The pressed steel style of bodyshell is one of the most common out of the 1st Gen DMUs so would make a good AI substitute for many of these units. I can see this being perfect for the West Somerset.

While the old Maryport and Carlisle line isn't as scenic as the Furness section of the Cumbrian coast, there's plenty of freight opportunities at Workington (especially before it was run down) so probably the better choice overall.

I'm just about old enough to remember coal wagons slowly crawling around the harbour at Whitehaven before Haig closed down. I'd wager they won't be part of this, but look forward to seeing a bit of my childhood recreated - especially those grey big old silos for the Marchon chemical works.

Finally, a new first generation DMU, and I know JT will do this justice. This will be worth the wait.

The 104s were pretty much the bread and butter DMUs on workings out of Manchester towards the North West, so a 104 in BR blue would still be an excellent addition for Preston. That said, 108s were fairly common around Preston so would also be at home.

Another great JT addition with a new 1st Gen DMU, count me in. Really hope we get an updated timetable for Blackpool Branches soon too, lots of new traction to add to that.

Perhaps I'm getting ahead of myself, but I wonder if 03s could be seen around that part of the world? It would also be a great opportunity to produce another shunter to complement the 08 as a future addon for the route. Perhaps with a flatbed wagon to operate the track circuits at say Carlisle like Hull Paragon's well known 03.

Looking forward to this one more because its set in a great era. I mean do we really need more wcml in modern times. I would have been hyped for some ecml action.

The route doesn't mean a great deal to me, but I'm all in for the 108.
Finally, another 1st gen DMU in the game and a unit that can be used on a few other routes as well.

To be honest, I’ll buy anything JT make in this era, but this sounds like a good and interesting choice of route. It makes use of the fact that by far the biggest and most time-consuming to build station - Carlisle - has already been built, along with the first mile or so towards Whitehaven.

There is a good mix of rural and urban interest, and both freight and passenger trains. The passenger trains are a bit dull in terms of service patterns - just one service group, stopping everywhere, roughly hourly - but for me that’s made up for by the fact that it’s operated by a Modernisation Plan DMU, which makes for an interesting drive. The fact that it’s a new unit - a 108 - is a bonus.

I’ll look forward to this one very much.

Looks amazing and because it’s just trains we know we are getting a fantastic route.
Rather throw my money at this than AABS who clearly have switched focus now onto ANOTHER route and just leaving b2c in the state it is in.

They seem to be pushing their development legs a bit by probably a lot of factors. I imagine beta team hiring was due to this product and more.

Looking forward to a new 1st gen DMU. JT did a great job with the upgraded class 101.
The route will likely be up to the same standards as Blackpool and WCMLoS.

Good but as I said in the reveals thread I feel they have missed a trick by stopping short at Whitehaven. The eponymous "Coast" section is really the single track winding under the cliffs and above the windswept beaches en route to Sellafield. Obviously the 108 is very welcome and will hopefully layer out the frankly misplaced 101 on BPO and Shap.

Memory may be playing tricks on me, but I'm sure I remember Preston Streets Goods Yard in Whitehaven still being in use in 1986 - vague recollection of watching Marchon tankers slowly roll over the level crossing on Coach Road around that time.

Can't remember seeing the Corkcicle Brake in action, though, alas, even though an Uncle and Aunt lived up that end of the valley.

Just trains were in a bad way a few years ago iirc. Thankfully they pulled through and have came out much better the other side. There is no way just trains have the money to take over DTG and if they did they would have to sort all the mess out left by DTG. What would be better is if just trains could get a team together and make a stand alone sim.

With this it's clear JT is building a whole network around Carlisle and Preston.
I just hope one day the route hopping feature will evolve into something allowing QuickDrive runs like Carlisle - Crewe...

That is true. Some of their early TSC (as in RS and Railworks) stuff (like Edinburgh to Dundee), left a great deal to be desired, relying on default Kuju assets and fish out of water traction. Later stuff was better, such as the Met, albeit not the policy of selling the required S stock separate from the route.

Some sort of function for the next TSW that means if you're driving a London to (say) Glasgow train, and own all the relevant DLCs, and when you get to Preston says "continue journey?" and loads up Preston-Crewe would be great. Especially as there could be a few options with connecting routes both from BR and more modern eras - I know there'd be a little bit of immersion breaking due to loading screen, but better than having to go back to the menu, find the relevant service etc.

Does make it a wee bit frustrating the Manchester Commuter run only goes to Alderley Edge, or I could have the whole Piccadilly to Euston run. Oh well.

Still excited for this, and according to my 1987 timetable there was a circa hourly Carlisle to Whitehaven service, but I would have been even more excited if it had gone to Barrow.

I reckon that will be in the works also. Quite a few trains terminated at Whitehaven from Carlisle and I suspect that Carlisle to Carnforth with a new item of rolling stock was a possibly too much to do as one DLC. Id reckon a Whitehaven to Carnforth (or maybe Lancaster) could follow this.

I have two cabride DVD's/Blu-rays of the route - the original Railscene one with Jeremy English (RIP) babbling away and the more recent one published by Videoscene and filmed from a Class 47 hauled railtour (sadly not wired for sound). The highlight of both is the section from Whitehaven to Sellafield including wondering what happens to those little shacks and bungalows next to the beach when you get a stormy tide coming in. If anyone from JT is reading this please consider extending the route a little further. This is akin to doing the Central Wales Line but only going from Swansea to Llandovery.

I just had a look on google earth and the section from Maryport to Whitehaven also looks spectacular. From what I see Sellafield has some sidings and a nuclare plant? That would be interesting. I hope they do the "whole thing" with a second DLC. I loved the Carnforth to Millom TSC freeware route!

Yes I have the Railscene one on VHS, I even still have a player for it, I must get it out over the weekend! I agree some of the most scenic sections are on the section south of Whitehaven and surely not having Sellafield is missing a trick. Maybe as has been suggested it might be extended in the future. At 40 miles it is quite a bit shorter than the Shap route and the new route.

I will definitely still get it, for the 108 as much as anything, I wondered if the Cumbrian coast would be next and assumed if so it would go all the way to Barrow.

It's possible their next one could be Lancaster to Whitehaven via Barrow to link things up, but that would be even more work than coming to Sellafield from Carlisle.

I like JTs approach to their routes, they create these main stations, then use those main stations to branch off other routes, similar to what they did in TSC with Midland Mainline

That wasn’t made by just trains. Wasn’t that made by a 3rd party named mullysoft or something like that.

As I mentioned above, back in 1986 there was a small goods yard on the other side of Whitehaven which (I think!) mainly dealt in chemical tankers for the Marchon plant overlooking the valley the town centre sits in - I remember well the Albright and Wilson logo on them.

I think I'm going to be dumping a ton of money with JT in the not too distant future, all we need now is a Class 25 expansion for Crewe to go with the revised 47s and all my Sulzer dreams will be complete. I mean I would really like to see a Stones Vapour Generator simulated for TSW but I suspect that may be a little niche, and yes, I know steam heat wasn't so much of a thing at this point but I like seeing Sulzer 2s taking water from a steam loco water column ok?

Oh dear I think its time for my meds

Having looked at the mileages concerned maybe that it will be Whitehaven to Barrow as another release and perhaps then onto Lancaster??

Or they may start extending them as per TSC products.

Only time will tell but the 108 is a massive welcome addition.

So come on 25 next please!! Right at home on those Freight workings!!

Even as someone who loves driving Modernisation Plan DMUs, I do think driving for two-and-half hours from Carlisle to Barrow would be something I would only do a limited number of times. I don’t think the experience would have much mass-market appeal.

I think the 1h10m or so from Carlisle to Whitehaven is a sensible length journey, and it’s better to do Whitehaven to Barrow as a separate route.

Whitehaven is the sensible place to split the route as it’s where a lot of trains terminate. Stopping anywhere else would just feel like finishing in the middle of nowhere.

Having said that, given it’s mileage and relative simplicity, I would expect this route to be priced a little lower than Carlisle-Preston or Preston-Crewe.

the 108 will be a nice addition. still early days with the route but if there is enough variety with freight then it might win me over. wasn't too keen on BPO to start with but found once purchased it was brilliant.

just hope they do a TT pack for BPO with the 108/86/87 and the weekday TT so it matches to WCMLos for route hopping which i put top of the list for improving. also thinking 108/NTP remaster again....
