Hey, I've created a small app, that allows you to have mutliple save game slots with TSW How It Works The application periodically checks the TSW save game file to see if it has changed. If it did, then it stores a copy in its repository. This copy can then be used to replace the TSW Save Game file… Which means that you, in essence, can have multiple save game slots. Each save game slot also keeps a history of the last 15 save game files (can be changed) saved into the slot. So you don’t have to change to a different slot after each saved game, but rather only when you're changing route/activity. Installation Check the release tab for the latest installer.Check releases for latest version. Download the topmost .msi file. How To Use Check the Wiki The app source code is available on GitLab: https://gitlab.com/winzarten/tsw-save-game-manager Enjoy
Does this cause problems with saving progress? for example if I save a run, complete 10 runs and save a 2nd run. Then reload the 1st one will I have lost the 10 completed runs?
No, it shouldn't. Progress is kept at different file than the 'resume' savegame file. The file is not even present until you manually save the game the first time.
I think he'll wait until he gets a lot of save slots in TSW-10, but in the meantime he'll be mentioning this in every Q&A thread.
I'm here! I'm Here! Well done Winzarten Once again modders are showing DTG how to do the things they put on the too difficult or low priority list.
I always seem to have trouble dl these msi files. Isn't it dl to Google Drive? I looked at mine and it wasn't there.
I had the usual Windows security warnings for "uncommon file" when dl and installing, but it came down to my HD with no issue.
hi, I am having a problem at the moment with this. The app loads up and even says the same game profile has been loaded but when I select the resume tab from the main in game menu if has a UE4 crash. Any ideas what might be causing this>
Do you have the correct savegame selected here? Is there a chance that that savegame was corrupted? Or did you tried repeatedly? This is the direct link https://gitlab.com/-/project/771468...f4a573f5996c07e7c6ce76/TSWSaveGameManager.msi But if it is blocked by browser/AV, there isn't much I can do.
Well done Winzarten. But forgive me for waiting until Vern and others have shaken this out and shown me that it works without issues.
C:\Users\.....\Documents\My Games\TrainSimWorld6\Saved\SaveGames\TSWSaveGame_e1e1d3d40573127e9ee0480caf1283d6.sav. I tried to resume several times but same result. I temporarily removed the program and save game is working again. Not sure if the save game file could have been corrupted.
I have not had a chance to try yet as having finished the Xmas mastery I'm currently over in ETS2 pushing the Nordic and Christmas challenges. However I'll try and take a look in the next day or two.
Hi Sharon, can I suggest that you download 'Internet Download Manager' from the internet. It can run the installers direct from the download and I find it very intuitive to use. It also captures downloads from the browser. When installed click on the link and it will probably take over with a pop up box. Worth a try?
Okay fired it up and had a quick look. However getting a bit confused... How do I distinguish which route each save is from as the list in the save slot simply notes the date and time of the save. In the example above I presume it is necessary to manually rename each slot for a specific route but then how do I get the save game to go to that specific slot?
Well I can confirm it works and no UE crashes. Went back and forth a couple of times between a save on Arosa and one on Birmingham to Crewe. However despite creating a second save slot all the saves continued to go in Slot 1 with, as I said, just the date and time no display of the route or run and scenario being undertaken. That said, so long as you only have three or four saves on the go at a time, it just means keeping a written note of what each one is. Hopefully the utility can be refined and updated to give the actual save information. So it gets a thumbs up from me.
Amazing that an 'enthusiast' can knock this out in their spare time, but it has proved beyond DTG for many a long year now!!
in the app you have to select which slot is live and it will then save in that slot so you can have one slot per route. You just have to got to make the right slot is selected. It would be good if you could annotate each file with notes about what each save is though
it appears that the ue4 crash is related to trying to restore a save only from the preston 2019 timetable mod. All other routes seem to work ok though. the multiple save game feature is another great addition but I agree that the menu could be better in relation to additional notes. I noticed that you can rename each slot on the left for different routes. the ability to add a short description to each save might make it less confusing, especially after a couple of glasses of wine! lol
Thanks Rev. In my haste to test it, I didn’t fully RTFM or open up the little menu icon. Super stuff.
There are defintely ways it will be improved. This is just what I considered MVP... The app has an autoupdate functionality, so people will get notify if a new version is released. I already found some small bugs, like the selected slot is not preserved correctly between application runs. But sadly, all the notes/properties will have to be entered by the user manually, as there is no 'metadata' I can get from the save file.
That is fine, as I said great work. Most of us don’t need an infinite number of save slots, just the flexibility to have two or three saved runs concurrently. That’s the message we have been trying to send DTG but falling on deaf ears.
Great job, Winzarten! It's no use to me on XBOX but it does illustrate the feasibility of adding multiple save slots to TSW. It's still astonishing to me that such an obvious QoL feature hasn't been added by DTG themselves despite numerous requests over many years.
I just hope this utility doesn’t encourage DTG to chuck their own “Three Save Slots Problem” research (as opposed to Three Body Problem!) back down the priority list. Though as you say it still needs resolving for console users.
Indeed. I think DTG should be thoroughly embarrassed by this, frankly. I'd be interested to know how long it took Winzarten to code and test this, but I suspect it wasn't a huge undertaking.
Winzarten When I do the dl from either the initial post or the link you provided what ends up in my Download folder is this Unconfirmedxxxxx.crdownload, and not the msi file, and file type is shown as CRDOWNLOAD File with 1657 kb size. Note the 'x' are numbers which are different in each dl I have. OldVern I have runtime installed since I use the Route Annotation file.
This looks great. Look forward to giving it a try over the weekend. Well done to you. This is something which DTG should have included from the start however.
Winzarten I have installed the app, but it did not detect the saved game location. Tried using the locate button and navigated to the location on my computer, which is in OneDrive like in the example in the wiki instructions. There is not a TSWsave folder in there.
Just one observation, when you click the tick to switch to a different slot, the utility then appears to automatically restore a save from that slot (not sure which one), rather than waiting for the user to select the file and upload it via the LoadSave Game button. This could potentially create an issue as I might just want to select the slot to amend the header title or just to see what it contains. Also (suggestion), going forward we need to be able to delete save files which are no longer needed. Suggestion No.2. A free form text box next to each listed save so the user can use this a s a scratchpad to enter brief details of the run as an aide memoir.
