Have They Given Up On The Game?

Seems like absolute radio silence in 2026, or am I just in the wrong place to get the info?

Was really expecting DTG would want a positive start to the year, with loads of communication and news about patches and improvements etc (even if most of if was just marketing BS), but so far I have seen nothing, other than a couple of forum posts and a patch for a German route that was ready before Christmas anyway.

Is it Metro Rivals or bust now and all the energy is going in that direction and TSW is being left to 3rd parties only?

If this info is being provided somewhere else and I am missing it, then I would love to know.

I stopped following TSW/DTG on social media as I was fed up being spammed about Metro Rivals (and basically given up on Social media in general) so the only source of news is the forums and theres been zilch in here either direct from DTG or news posted elsewhere being discussed so I assume its all quiet.

That said I dont think theyve given up on the game and I dont think anyone expects Metro Rivals to be the long term focus of theres. I suspect they were expecting the 805 to drop either this week or next week and dont have anything to fill the void nothing more and nothing less than that.

 

As I alluded to in another thread recently, I think TSW is almost finished as far as DTG are concerned as regards to first party content.

There's still a bunch of third parties making content to somewhat make up for that, though

 

Yeah but we still need DTG to tie it all together and actually release stuff in a timely fashion, especially bug fixes and patches.

The game is not dead yet or even close yet.

It obvious they are following TSC's pattern. The Fishing game was to understand building in UE4 and converting PC to console in preparation for TSW. Which took a few years.

It was still 4 or 5 years until they dropped making stuff for TSC. And now it just 3rd parties.

I don't think Metro Rivals is being released to replace TSW (the current cash cow). I think it is just a test bed for UE5.

We are still probably 2 or 3 years before the next level Train Sim comes out using UE5 and even that will take a couple of years to get people to move to the new game so I think TSW will still be around come the 2030's.

People seem to think all of this takes just months but in reality we are looking at years still. Probably at least 2 years of experimenting in Metro Rivals.

 

Forums here have been awfully quiet for the last weeks indeed.

The last roadmap gave me hope that DTG might step back a bit from creating new stuff, letting 3rd parties handle that, while moving more to fixing bugs and reduce the obviously huge QA backlog. But all this recent radio silence suggests that they really might have moved a lot of staff over to Metro Rivals, at least for the time being, and reduced their work on TSW to a bare minimum.

Or perhaps it's more a case of them letting this forum die quietly while moving over to Discord. Since I don't use Discord and probably never will, I guess I'm out of the loop from now on

 

Are you going to continue to make this thread every week to spark commentary? I understand the want to get some chatter, but it’s clogging up the forums and without content coming until February, it’s expected that it’s going to be quiet around here right now.

 

Lots of chatter on discord by the community managers. To be honest I only look at the forums once a week now and spend more time on discord.

Besides the forums seem to be the same 30 people just repeating themselves over and over about the exact same problems.

And too many wanna be moderators.

 

So they have kind of given up on this game then!!!

 

It's a genuine question that many others are also wondering.

Even the new (at one point suspected as being AI) CM's have been pretty quiet.

Obviously they have to settle back in after their rather long Christmas break but I have been getting the vibe since late last year that Metro Rivals is where it's at. TSW may not be about to follow FSW, Catan or Fishing to the abandoned and forgotten corner but seems to me they are getting ready to step back and let it become a largely 3rd party arena like TSC.

I won't move to Discord just because of TSW. Discord just isn't appealing to me. So I guess I'll have to rely on second-hand news about TSW from now on.
Oh well... at least there are a bunch of decent TSW Youtube channels.

Agree with you on that one, mostly. There are some good nuggets here and there still, but most of it is just the same old all over again.

I don't think TSW is gonna go away soon either. But I also don't have much hope for better quality control in the future anymore

Because of all the garbage on here, with good nuggets every now and then they have become sick of reading all the conspiracy and searching for the good posts that it is a waste of time.

When the EP said last February that he is taking a break from the forums as there was too much to weed through and stuff that is just plain false reported all the time I get it. Same reason I don't like to be on here anymore. So the writing has been on the wall for awhile.

And yes focus is going to be towards getting everyone setup on UE5 and whatever the new Train Sim is. But obviously they are going to need the money from TSW to pay for the development as that is the biggest profit maker. And the whole reason Focus bought them.

But its not going to happen for 4-5 years.

Trust me on the last raod map at about 1:58 Matt is talking about the blurry textures issues and I posted a comment that unfortunately it sounds like we are sevral months away from a fix. And he interuppted Alex to say No it has to be sooner.

I still think we are several months away but that emotion tells me they are very intensly working on that.

So that could be why it so quiet as well.

I understand its a quite month not much going on. But if they post a few bits on discord why not on here. Some of us dont use discord. Even if its to say hi guys we haven't forgotten about TSW we just dont have anything to report on.

Seems obvious what the problem is and that it will be very, very hard to fix without a complete overhaul which I doubt is viable from a resource allocation/finances perspective.

 

It’s January it usually is a quiet month for TSW. Wait until the February Roadmap there should be plenty of updates by then.

That is what I am pinning everything on right now (how naïve of me!!).

I suppose if the new JT route is amazing and drops quite soon then that will keep many of us happy for a while anyway.

As for the original point, I don't think they have. I think they're just waiting till the Feb roadmap before they announce anything.

Look, I would love to be more positive and if the Feb stuff is great and we get some amazing patches then brilliant and I will be more than happy to say I was total wrong and say sorry to all I doubted.

TSW started in 2017. We're in 2026, almost 9 years after.
Problem is there was so much more content for TS20xx 9 years after its (Railworks) creation.

If it turns out that you were prophetic, TSW will be an empty shell compared to TS on the day of its funeral.
(I'm exaggerating, but you get the idea.)

We all complain about how we dislike discord, but posts like this are childish and something I’d expect to see clog up the discord channel.

Plenty to flame DTG for, but we know we’re not getting anything for another few weeks and personally I’d rather see the handful of threads regarding suggestions or discussing issues than junk rage bait threads just to rile things up. Takes away from the forum experience IMO.

 

I do think they can as long as they actually put time and effort into it.

Do I think they will? Well thats where I lose faith. Also I still don't think even if they give it priority it will be a quick fix.

I think the quickest will be TSW7 before we actually see any fixes if any.

I think they have ignored optimization or low prioritized it for too long the game really needs attention and we are almost at the point as you say a complete overhaul will be required if they don't give attention to it now.

But I hope they prove me wrong and start rolling out fixes that actually work. Hopefully they have started with WCML and the 805 pack.

But again faith is not there.

 

TSW is (slowly) becoming what TSC is
the bad part is that we can say goodbye to bug fixes (even if they've existed, very poorly, until now)
the good part is FINALLY the end of the pointless practice of releasing a "new" TSW every year

 

I am already concerned about the 805, what with the preview cancellation.

After the Brum-Crewe fog debacle and the subsequent disaster of a release.

I guess just being a loco pack is a lot to easier to get right than a full route.

WCML is very poor performance wise on console as well, so that would be an obvious target when working on the textures.

Seems a very fair question to be asking considering what we see and what we know.

Again, if it proves to be totally inaccurate and things change massively in the next few weeks then it will be my pleasure to say I was wrong and my concern was totally unfounded and apologise to everyone said the opposite.

And I think we will all be happy then, because it means the game is getting better, which is what we all want I assume?

It got me talking on the forums.. and I think has created a good coversation on the lack of faith we have in DTG right now.

In no way is it childish its a title to start a conversation on why we are unhappy and what is expected from DTG for each of us.

It's a valid thread to me.

 

It is January, they have only just gone back to work.

It is hardly a surprise they don't visit these forums often. It is the same posts all the time, conspiracy theories and posters seemingly trying to whip up a storm again and again, and then the same posters moaning that the community managers are quiet. I seriously think some people need to look in the mirror, actions have consequences. The EP no longer visits, he used to engage, answer questions and give advice, now he no longer visits and it is the fault of some people on these forums, no one else.

I too am getting tired of these forums. I used to be on Discord and didn't like it, I might rejoin it as it seems to be a more pleasant option.

 

You know, just because they're quiet, it doesn't necessarily mean they've given up.

I think some have too much time on their hands or are looking for reasons to be negative. I am certain this same topic appears at least once every few months.

 

The game isn’t dying, but the forum certainly feels like it is. Every so often I take a peep over on discord and it’s buzzing with hundreds of posts daily on there. On here feels like I’m walking down a lonesome road with the Texan heat hitting my forehead, without a soul in sight.

 

One post about the topic isn’t childish. I personally feel it’s not needed, but it’s a valid topic if people are concerned that we aren’t getting updates and feel that it’s not just because it’s a quiet time of year and aren’t sure that updates are coming in February. I even understand why people would like to have a place for that discussion.

The childish part to me is repeatedly starting another thread for the same topic just to hope for some engagement (and another thread that will likely inevitably be closed). To me, these are things that can be continued to be discussed in the original thread you started a week to two ago to not take away from some of the other threads that detail fixes, discussions about routes, or people who need help/guidance with issues. I personally started coming here for help with bugs/issues about the game, especially new issues that popped up after updates that are usually at the top of the forum. So to me multiple threads like this take away from those types of community troubleshooting threads.

Also I say this as someone that has seen and interacted with a few of your posts. You are very passionate about the sim and getting many of these issues fixed. I respect that and I agree with the sentiment. I just don’t see what good making multiple threads like this to discuss lack of discussion does other than clog up the forums and take away from other helpful discussion threads.

Yes this is pretty much the reason we hear nothing in January. There’s no point having a roadmap this month and also the December roadmap was split up over 3 weeks. They have not long just got back from Christmas holidays so there would be nothing to update or report on. February it will be back to normal with a decent amount of stuff to report on.

 

People before: dlc must be halted to bugfixes.
People now: why dlc release has been stopped?

Jokes aside, it's tempting to see the glass as half empty.
We'd all like things to improve drastically, and quickly at that, myself included.
But as some have said, things will pick up again in February. December was full of announcements.
And until further notice, DTG is still working on the core of the game, in any case, it hasn't been abandoned like TSC.

So maybe I'll be accused of being a bit optimistic here, but I'm still hopeful !

I am definitely not asking for more DLC, more about bugs fixes for me.

Would absolutely advocate for halting all new releases while existing issues are sorted out, but I understand that is not a realistic proposition unfortunately.
