Better in what way? WCML without the 390 is like London to Brighton without an Electrostar (well almost) so it's better than the 805 in that respect. I'll be getting the 805 assuming all is well on release. If not I'll wait.
Lets not have any additional DLC then as it could be a cash grab! Some phrases are very easy to bandy around.
Both much of a muchness I'd imagine both high speed EMUs. I suspect the 805 might be a bit more detailed but who knows. The 390 is very decent.
At the moment I'd say the 390 because it's more iconic and both routes would feel empty without it and theres already 4 (soon to be 5) routes it can be used on
The 805 will be a good addition to the routes however, if you only have the money for one DLC then the 390 should absolutely be your priority. It makes up the majority of fast running services and is a quintessential part of the modern WCML.
805 definitely a good addition and my intention to buy within a few days, unless there are major bugs. It’s more of a filler DLC to add immersion, but the preview pics do look good.
I'll stick to my 86s & 87s in the roaring 80s matey, none of this one handed drive nonsense thank you very much Ahem, but if I had to choose, I'd go for the 390 as well the modern Hitachi LOVE makes "Pendolino's look like LOVE***g Shaft" (see if anyone get's that paraphrased quote).
IRL I prefer the 390. Both trains look stunning though the 390 just about edges it. In terms of TSW I imagine the 805 will be made to a better standard, as it will probably use the same sounds as the 802 which are IMO excellent. I'll be honest I don't like driving the 390 much in TSW due to the poor sounds (running sounds especially). However there's little incentive to buy the 805 from a console perspective.
There's not a doubt in my mind that the timetable will have blurry textures. If DTG get it fixed then it should be quite a nice addon but until then I won't be buying because I find the blurry textures insufferable.
Precisely why I don't think I'll be buying it either. I'm sure the 805 itself is nice and all, but WCMLs is known to be one of the worst routes performance wise, and I'm not sure adding an even bigger timetable to it is exactly a good idea, and Birmingham to Crewe is infamously one of the worse routes blurry texture wise
Well we won't know until the stream and I won't be buying at £15 anyway, but if the sounds on the 805 are similar to the 800/801/802 the cabs will be pretty much silent as the end cars are unpowered. So the 390 is the one to pick for a bit of traction noise.
Driving from the first class end you can open the external doors behind the cab (plus the internal cab door) as they are not traction interlocked, which lets a bit more sound in, but otherwise they are nearly as bad as the EMU’s on Rapid Transit for lack of traction and tactile sound. That’s why I really can’t get excited about paying £15 for another variant of the same train in the game.
The 390 is compulsory for the West coast mainline if you want a realistic experience it's the main express train on the route,The 805 is a nice addition to the rolling stock but you could miss it without spoiling the emersion too much, Thinking about buying it but not sure yet myself ,or maybe wait for a sale to add it to my collection
If we're talking about the actual trains then the Class 390 wins hands-down. Built in the early 2000s they corrected the mistakes made on the APT project and finally gave us tilting trains in the UK. They were a huge step-up in comfort, quality and safety too. The IET was a retrogressive step. No tilt, not fully accessible, cramped, harsher ride, uncomfortable seats, typical 'designed by accountants', off-the-peg, cheapest possible spec trains from the same DfT that gave us the dreadful Class 700 specification. The best feature of them is that that some were bi-mode. Though Britain has been doing bi-mode locos since the 1950s and multiple units since the 1980s so I'm not sure there's anything innovative about the IET. Though I'm told by a recent visitor to the North Wales mainline that the 805 versions are the best of a bad bunch.
I couldn’t really vote on this as both trains are vital to the timetable on the route/routes for me. I value both trains though as they’re as equally important to the operations on the WCML. I’ve never been on a 805, only a 390 irl, so my vote would be very biased on my irl experience riding the train. Yes! Absolutely 1000% buying the 805
