I was thinking about buying one of these, as I find turning on the safety systems a pain at the start of a service, especially when you forget the location of one notch/switch. :)

I do use a keyboard but it's (wirelessly) attached to my XBOX Series X console rather than my controller.

And yes - it does make a big difference to gameplay, e.g. it's easy to switch on safety systems, change cameras, switch on wipers, switch on headlights etc. etc.

…I’m on Series X, it’s got a USB port, front bottom left, I just use a cheap wired keyboard connected all the time. It gives you access to ALL the settings, lots of which you can’t access on the controller alone plus you can make changes without pausing the game, absolutely essential.

It gets you many additional options which you cannot get easily or at all on a controller. I’d recommend a decent wireless one (nothing crazy expensive) and that should do the job.

I keep a USB keyboard plugged directly into my XBox at all times. A mouse, too. You'd be surprised how much supports it.

If this is the case then you will not be able to use one of the keyboards that attach to a controller, because turning on the safety systems requires the use of the CTRL key which the small controller keyboards don't have. However, I do believe they are capable of turning on the alerter/DSD-DVD/Sifa.

DSD/DVD is done via Shift + enter so all depends if it has a shift key!

A proper USB keyboard is just a better all round choice than those clip on pads, doesn't screw with the balance of the controller and can be used independently for multiple functions, just like on a PC.

Yeah - a USB keyboard is perfect for that.

So i want to use a keyboard for turning things on. But are all the same key combs used on different locos or does each loco have different combs. Example Ctrl plus 5 key to turn on safety systems on all locos or would that change for loco to loco. Thanks

Same for all I think, e.g. CTRL+ENTER and SHIFT+ENTER activate the various safety systems, V activates the wipers etc.. The obvious caveat is that not all locos have the same features and controls so some keyboard shortcuts don't do anything on some trains.

…somewhere on DTG there are these pages that pertain to the individual Loco’s/Units and their keyboard shortcuts, I think they were published when each individual DLC came out. This one came with NTP & is for the Met Cam Class 101, hope this is of use. 176C44BC-A487-48E9-9E26-E3932123B217.jpeg
