Gwe Remaster: Appreciation And Discussion Thread

Yes it looked like a brand new route. Loved the busy timetable and the lighting improvements.

Thanks to Liam and all involved.

 

Since it's coming on Friday, I'm appreciating the drives on the OG route before we finally get to drive the remaster. Building the hype!

 

I'm just praying that it runs smoothly on Xbox.

 

You and me both mate I don't even mind disabling a few layers if that helps. Mind you saying i dont there is many layers on this route is there.

 

23 layers! It's gonna be chockablock. But given the love Liam has given this, I really hope it performs!

 

What was the stream like i couldn't watch it.

 

It looks phenomenal man! Always something going on.

 

I don't see how we will avoid blurring, considering the amount of traffic that will be present.

Matt did say they've got an internal build with a potential patch that's being tested on SEHS, and if it's successful it'll be rolled out.

 

It looks good. Performance-wise, it also seems to look solid. Always in for a little nag: Why are cab doors still so difficult to open and close? It's like a mini game on its own, as shown on the stream.

Overall: keep the remasters coming!

Skimmed through stream as was working last night and this morning.
One thing that made me chuckle was the passenger behaviour at Ealing Broadway on the footbridge! They were falling through it in places.

The other thing was stood out is just a personal one but it was weird that the first service they ran was from Slough as it's from a bay platform that was taken out of use around 2014-15.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't GWE set later than 2014?

EDIT: Another thing that made me chuckle was Matt driving the IET on electric into platforms at Paddington which were not electrified at the time. As soon as he exited the cab you could see the pantograph was still raised!

Awesome remaster ,massive difference from original, little concerned maybe for blurry textures, but other wise I'm looking forward and keeping Friday clear for this!

 

Will the 166 / 165 be useable in the livery designer now? So customs can be made?

Heathrow Express had been running since the late 1990s, so Paddington was electrified.

Or was it only some dedicated platforms that were electrified back then?

 

Platforms 1 & 2 were not electrified back then, they were only done later on.

 

Ah yeah, I don't have much knowledge of the area but I just went and had a look, I see what you mean about that bay platform. Apparently they stopped running services to it in around 2014/15 and then the track was ripped up in 2015. GWE is seemingly set in 2015/2016, but the timetable is actually 2017. So it is inaccurate, at least to run a train to or from that platform 6 on this timetable, but also nobody really seems to know exactly when the route is set, it seems like a mix to me.

 

Timewise the route is all over the place.
Broken record but setting it right when the electrification is taking place, was for me, not the right time to do it.

 

Personally I've never been a fan of the half and half electrification but that's just me.

 

Do I check for updates on Friday or do I download it like a new dlc?

Yeah, it is a bit silly. It’s either fully electrified or it isn’t. It was one of DTG first routes they made, I doubt they’d do a similar style route (half/half overhead) again.

It should be automatic on all platforms.

 

Watched the stream last night. I must say, although I’m personally not a fan of diesels as some of them take much longer to accelerate than electrics, the new version looks absolutely stunning. Scenery, clutter and foliage are looking fabulous, and I’m looking forward to the improved environment in Paddington and Reading.

Just wanted a clarification on the exclusion of the Class 387, because I understand many were asking about this last night on the stream. If I understand correctly, the train will not be included in the timetable, but will be available in free roaming. Will this include the reworked liveries and interiors we saw in some of the early screenshots of the remaster.

Haven’t checked the stream yet but going by all the comments in here it must be pretty darn good. I’m looking forward to watching it.

 

Would it not have been possible to do something like what JT did with the 86, such that the 387 is included on the timetable but if an official 387 came along it would always substitute if the player owned the new 387?

 

can’t see that happening, it would significantly reduce any incentive to buy an official 387

 

I just watched the live stream; this route should have been released like this from the start. Well done, Liam, and thank you so much for this superb work!

It was their second route and their first passenger route to be fair!

I'm sure they have learnt a lot in the last eight years.

 

How? TOD4 didn’t exist. There was no 1972 stock, Class 484, 47, 350, 802, Voyager or steam trains (Flying Scotsman) present in the game at the time…
