Cerebral & mature are not in DTG’s vocabulary unfortunately!

I was going to suggest the new game was Thomas as a joke... I guess the DLC was popular enough to make a new game based on it... and if not its just a terrible business decision and a lot of money and time wasted... just my thoughts...

I'm not sure what dark magic did they use to make this game run on Nintendo Switch... And yes it is not natively for the Switch 2

This is actually exactly what many people were drooling over when the TTTE came out for TSW.
The pro-Thomas people wanted "all of SODOR" ....got it.
The anti-Thomas people "didn't want it in TSW".... got it.
The people in the middle said "well I don't care for it, but it'd be nice to get more kids into railroading"... got it.
    Seems like a win-win-win.
    --
I also think they've taken some feedback from the forum for the TTTE DLCs in controls, free roam, timetables, etc.
It's not as rigidly pre-school level simplicity.
(Just hope it's a lot more forgiving for kids in missions and those "out of bounds" barriers!)
That and I hope they ironed out some of the known issues like the "invisible locomotives" bug.

Not sure it'd be something I'd enjoy, but I'd have to see more. I never grew up on the books or TV show, but a full island to explore could be interesting. The characters I find a bit annoying but it's a kids show. Ideally being able to import some other stock from TSW into it would be fun (it does say it's running on "Train Sim World's game engine"), but I think they're going to keep a tight leash on it given the licensing.

All in all, I think it's good for the brand as a whole.

I respectfully disagree because in the end, the thomas dlcs exist in tsw

they shouldn't have released them in tsw and should have waited to release any thomas-related content now, with the game dedicated to it

Is it? It will also come to PS4 and Xbox One, so I highly doubt it's on UE5.

It's not UE5, I saw this mentioned on Discord. Also, if you think about it, if it's based on TSW then it's UE4.

Nope, it's UE4 but build differently than just a TSW reskin. Matt said it with more techy words on Discord today, so I'll just copy and paste it here:
    upload_2026-2-5_14-46-16.png

But it's a different set of folks working on this game, and its going to also have a new platform: Switch. So this should be very interesting.

Disagree. It made perfect sense to test the water in TSW to see if there was a market for it, without risking developing a whole game.

I didn't bother with the Thomas addons, not yet anyway, but the kid in me is somewhat tempted by this.

DTG is so alien to real life that by the time it develops a UE5 train simulator worthy of the name, many other game makers will have already moved on to UE6...

Probably wrong, but I'd hazard a guess that Mattel probably stipulated it had to be on the Switch as a lot if not all of their existing games will be in that ecosystem, it's especially with kids.

Personally I'm disappointed with this, as I'm an adult who likes adult trains not fictional ones with faces, but the kids will love it and if it brings in cash for DTG to justify putting out more and more TSW/TSC content, I'm all for it.

Games for kids, weird subway games, TSW almost entirely in the hands of third parties (not that this is necessarily a bad thing), resources being diverted everywhere, and poor quality (for example, the serious problem of blurry textures).
In 2017, I started TSW with enthusiasm, but now something isn't working for me anymore.
I think it's best to start looking elsewhere.
Of course, this is just my personal opinion.

There is good news there though. Thomas only exists in your TSW if you buy the Thomas DLC. If you don’t buy the Thomas DLC, there’s no sign of Thomas anywhere in your TSW. It’s like some sort of magic.

I’m not really the target audience, but I’m happy for the people who like Thomas the Tank Engine. Honestly, we should be glad Dovetail is trying new things, imo.

And for those saying it’s a "waste of time and money", think about the potential profits and experience this could bring to Dovetail — it might not be a complete loss after all.

It's obviously meant for a younger audience so not my cup of tea, but I hope it does well and brings more players to TSW eventually. It could also gradually build up a case for "proper" UK steam at a later date if it does well and brings in new customers looking for more steam.

Separating it from TSW probably at least means we wont be dealing with the Tale of Thomas and the Troublesome Texture Buffer.

I’m actually quite excited for this. Admittedly I was upset with the last Thomas announcement, but that was because we’d all been hyped up for a big TSW announcement.

This is a totally separate game, albeit TSW based. It will be interesting to see how much of the Island of Sodor is represented, and also how much potential there is for future expansions, if it does well.

I grew up with Thomas, and this might be a nice fun alternative to normal TSW. I personally feel there is a place for both games.

Yeah. I've got 9yo train nut son who will go absolutely bonkers when this gets released. He likes playing TSW/TSC on my PC (he is the main reason I bought them) and this will be a double win as he got a Switch Lite for Xmas so hopefully he can have it on that (which is handy as he won't be bugging me for the PC so much...!)

I´m cool with this. Glad it´s getting it´s own game and no more Thomas talk on the TSW forums. They should have done it that way right from the get go.

I have to say I'm actually curious on this one. I loved the series as a kid and I like the sound of a proper shunting challenge mode something I wish we had in here. It was one of my complaints with the WSR version as the objective markers just took the puzzle out of it.

Would love a Stepney to show up (as I can't see actual A1s coming to TSW anytime soon) or the narrow gauge stuff!

We'll have to see what happens.

Only a fool throws themselves down a shaft before throwing a rock first...

Testing the water is always a good thing...

Besides, if you didn't buy those DLC's, they never even show up in your main menu... Like they never existed.

I would also point out that, like model railways, or railroading, it's nice to have a perfect recreation, rivet accurate, but when a kid sees it, they don't see that, they see tiny trains they want to play with.. And I'd argue the same could be said nowadays for simulators, especially trains.

I'd even argue, this is quite possibly, the best business move DTG have ever made.

This! That's what made me think it's geared at the right target audience. I suggest to gear all your marketing efforts to that platform and release it on physical game cards to get in the good graces of the Switch community.

Astute indeed. Periodic add-ons with new characters, stories and map areas will most likely happen - those that want to expand the collection will love it. The source material stretches very far.. well done DTG!

My daughter wants this for her switch having seen the trailer.
If it encourages young children, especially more girls, to have a lifelong love for the railways I’m all for it and think it’s brilliant idea.

There will be a lot of aspiring young train drivers out there and this new game plus TSW can help with that... shame the old guard of the community has to rain down on their parade. You'd think TSW or TSC was only meant for them based on how they react to new ideas. ;)

For everyone wishing TSW to move to UE5. Do some research on UE5 and you'll be thankful it's still on UE4. UE5 is a double edged sword, especially for a team that's trying to get a game running well on UE4.

While wishing DTG every success with the new venture and not ruling out trying it at some point (in a very deep sale), I do worry that this has been a huge distraction for the company over sorting TSW out with resources and manpower shifted over to service Mattel and meet their deadlines.

Thank you so much. I'm okay, I'm signed-off indefinitely and seeing a psychiatrist, so I'm in safe hands. Winter can be a drag as it's when the same condition that's messing with my brain chemistry also causes a lot of pain when it's damp or cold.

I'm getting used to it, slowly. Thank you for the offer if I need to talk. It is really appreciated. We're a good community and I'm lucky to be a part of it.

If Matt says it’s going to crash hard, then that’s seriously worrying.
