Gwe Remaster: Appreciation And Discussion Thread

Have to agree - I've just done a couple of runs (165 and HST) and the difference between this and the original route is like night and day. This has completely revitalised the route - the scenery and lighting are superb, the timetable brings the whole route to life, and adding suspension to the HST and 166 makes them so much more fun to drive. I'm just getting started, but it feels like this route has been well and truly rescued.

Remastering this old route gives me hope that others may receive the same treatment - my biggest gripe with TSW(*) has been the gradual death of routes that I used to love - I don't (can't) really play NTP or TVL these days because I've got so used to suspension and great scenery. Actually, arriving into Paddington just now and hearing the announcements also brought a smile to my face - it's amazing how quickly I've got to expect these (even if they're amusingly wrong, like "the train at platform 9 is for London Paddington only. Please board the train as it is about to leave" etc ), and how much they also bring to the game.

Can anyone confirm you can now run the HST’s with cab doors ajar, to admit the thrash?

The problem with this remaster is that it shows we need a lot more remasters. After playing a service on GWE I can't wait for the SKA remaster. More focus on remasters, less new routes please.

Not a criticism as I know a lot of people have been waiting for this (and credit to the developers too). Personally I’m not bothered about GWE, is there a way of stopping the update so I don’t clog up memory with a route I don’t use?

I don't think it is?

You can uninstall the route itself, or if you're on steam, untick it from your DLC list.

I had to launch the game and close it for the game to recognise there was an update.

Cap well and truly doffed to Liam for the work on this route. What's been done is absolutely staggering and it's like getting a whole new route for free.

That said, as soon as I was within a couple of miles of Paddington the frame rate became janky (very !) and as soon as I got into the station the core issues crept in again and it became an unsightly blurry mess. On Series X.

 

Gen-8 (PS4 & Xbox One) has a reduced timetable:
2,340 total services 942 playable (Overall, a 50% reduction in total services, and a 29% reduction in playable services).

Layers included:

• Cargo Line Vol. 2 Aggregates
• Island Line 2022: BR Class 484

I thought the same today... I would prefer certain remasters (with extensions) over new routes.

 

I love this remaster! Unfortunately it's plagued with blurry textures (Xbox series x) like any good route but I am still able to enjoy the majority of the scenery and everything else this route has to offer!

Just sunk a couple of hours into this, while doing a 802 test run (30min) a 350 and two HST runs. All in all a great experience, I didn’t notice any blurry texture issues on PS5 Pro.
Paddington station was very well done, the lighting is top notch. I had to leave my train on one of my HST runs to fully appreciate the work Liam had put into it.

I did notice the 802 has the audio popping issue again just like on Riviera, but I think that’s an 802 bug rather than a route specific. I also had a problem on the 5Z16 TT service. I was unable to switch to diesel mode from overhead power. I tried everything, trust me. Nothing worked. I hope this gets fixed at some point.

Overall incredible remaster and easily takes the top spot for me, followed by Cathcart Circle Line.

As I've said in another thread, I'm on PS5 and have had no blurring issues whatsoever and it runs as smooth as butter...

Words do not do the transformation of this route justice. This feels like a completely new route, not TSWs first ever route... Absolutely amazing. So far I've done 2x HST runs to Paddington and Reading and back, and each one so far has offered a different driving experience. On my first run I was at 110mph and then was stopped for a 66 and aggregate train to enter the Southall complex of sidings. And on the return I had some cautionary aspects as I got back into the 'Travel Card Zone' as I call it.

This route really feels multi dimensional in ways in which it can be enjoyed. You've got the driving aspect, a guard aspect, a spotting aspect and then the sheer complexity of the timetable where no drive offers the same driving experience from what I've seen so far.

Superb work and was well worth the wait and completely lived up to its name.

 

Just to make people aware, you can use the blue Turbo on Riviera line;

 

I haven't give Riveria Line a go, but fingers crossed the entire updated HST/166 are the 'standard' variations that layer in. That way the suspension physics and GSMR update can be enjoyed on there too!

 

You might be right. Here's me thinking, when the voiceover said sit in the driver's seat, the person already sitting there would get up – not absorb me into her body!

Jokes aside, I had a few minutes on a break, but first impression: looks great and runs superbly. Normally panning the camera, especially at the start of a journey, will cause extreme choppiness, but not at all this time. Not sure if that's a core thing (I haven't played in a while) or owing to Liam's work on this route.

 

Obvious that the remaster has been very well done and I imagine it looks amazing on a decent PC!!

Unfortunately on Xbox, the blurring is worse than any other UK route that I own now. Entirely predictable, but still disappointing.

 

Another thumbs up for this upgrade.
Had one full Turbo run which was a little stuttery and then I followed it by running the full route both ways in the HST, esch of which were silky smooth.
Very impressed.

 

Did a Reading to Paddington run on the HST earlier on Xbox Series X. Looked stunning, performance was smooth and managed most of the journey before the blurries kicked in.

This was on the new timetable with all available layers active (only missing one of the cargo lines and the 1938 stock). Will try the OG timetable and have a play about with disabling layers later.

So core issues aside, first impressions were very strong. Can’t wait to get really stuck in with it this evening. I do have this on PS5 as well albeit with a lot less of the extra content for layers, so be interesting to see how it holds up by comparison.

 

Only done two runs one in rain and one in dark but seems a really good job done. Have the sitting positions been changed too? Seems much better!

On PS5 here too and no blurring or performance issues thus far.

 

The windshield of 166 is not transparent : for example timetable GWE 2017 / Class 166 GWG / GWE 2 cars / 2R23 at 9:10
Edit : solved by deleting the mod "tmSpikeesCabCamFixesTSW5.pak"

 

Does anyone know why there are no 350’s as SWT 450’s at Reading? I heard there were some that could be driven to a depot? Didn’t see any on Matt’s preview stream either (which was muted at the time!)

Ok just finished a couple of runs on this route after the update and one thing is very clear...

Calling this a 'remaster' is actually a disservice for all the work that has gone into it

Really is night and day difference and best of all, have not seen any blurry textures so far (ps5 pro)

Yeah the 802 and flying scotsman have gone missing at mo but plenty going on to not really care

Looking forward to the 'remaster' of my home route East Coastway even more now.

Same here. Only light stutters in really busy areas (royal oak during rush hour). No blurs.

 

Great job Liam, route seems great however started bluring at Acton mainline with some layers disabled though I understand it’s a core issue so no fault of yours! Xbox XLove the announcements though!

 

You can tell this was a pretty big undertaking, and it's made a hell of a difference to the route. Good job, it's appreciated.

 

It´s a core problem and DTG are working on it. No need to write it in every thread 5 times per day. Half of the feedback thread (and every thread on this forum for that matter) is full of people saying: "I´ve got blurry textures".

 

I have done 3 runs on the route, one being in guard mode and the only thing I noticed was with the station announcements. It went along the lines of "The train standing at platform 3 is the 1615 service to London Paddington. This train is ready to depart". But its already at Paddington. It will also say this 3 or 4 times in a row, I have found, anyway.

Other than that, it is a huge improvement and I cannot wait to see how East Coastway will look soon.

 

I love the remaster. Thank you Liam and everyone involved, HST Farewell will be a day one purchase for me.

 

Remove old mods! Mods for the old route are not matching the new route standarts any more!

I'm getting crash to desktop quite often both in game and when finishing a run and going back to main menu since the Remaster Update today..... This has been when driving the HST and 802.
