Rivet Games' Southern BR Class 171 & BR 377/3 is coming soon to Train Sim World 6!

Accompanying the East Coastway Remaster, this add-on includes two trains operated by Southern; the Class 171 (in /7 and /8 versions) and Class 377/3. This was originally announced in our October 2025 Roadmap and more recently with the February 2026 Roadmap, but if you missed it, here's what you can expect from Rivet's newest trains.

    Timetable & Layers
    [IMG]

Along with the 3 included scenarios, there will be 322 playable services included with these trains. Gen 8 players will have the same timetable as Gen 9 and PC players. Tyler from Rivet Games has given us the full timetable breakdown on what you can expect from the December 2017 - May 2018 setting.

Tyler: "The new timetable is built from scratch using the December 2017 - May 2018 Working Timetable. There are two versions included: one where the Seaford and Lewes services are operated by the Class 377/3 and the other operated by the Class 313. They are otherwise identical."

"Compared with the original route timetable, these timetables add Class 171 services between Brighton and Ashford International and the previously-missing 377/4 services between London and Eastbourne via Lewes. Seasonal layers include the Railhead Treatment Train and a variety of railtour, diversion, and other unusual services. Additional AI traffic includes Gatwick Express and Thameslink AI to Brighton. I created this timetable nearly two years ago as a free mod, and I've updated and expanded it as the basis of this DLC."

    Services:
    • 322 playable included.
    • 376 playable with all layers.
    • 1,008 including AI services, with all layers.
    Compatible Layers:
    • Railhead Treatment Train
    • Brighton Main Line
    • Thameslink Class 700
    • Southeastern High Speed
    • Class 20
    • Class 86/2 (coaches only)
    • Tees Valley Line
    • ROG Class 37
    • Flying Scotsman
    • Class 33
    • Riviera Line (Class 150 AI)
    The Trains
    Southern BR Class 171

The Class 171 is a variant of the Class 170 operated by Southern. The primary difference is the fitting of a Dellner coupler, rather than the usual BSI coupler, for emergency coupling to Southern's EMU fleet. Southern has shuffled around their 171s a bit, but since the timetable is set in 2017-2018, we are including the two-car 171/7 and the four-car 171/8 exclusively as part of this Add-on. Rivet have also made audio improvements which will be backported to Birmingham Cross City and Fife Circle Class 170s.

The Class 171 operates diesel services over the Marshlink line between Ore and Ashford International, connecting to Brighton. These stop only at Polegate and Lewes, except for the first service of the day which makes additional stops between Lewes and Brighton.

    BR Class 377/3[IMG]

Class 377/3 units were originally built as Class 375/3s for Connex South Eastern (later Southeastern), but 28 of them were transferred to Southern. Their designation was changed when they were transferred to reflect the fitting of DOO equipment, and their change to Dellner couplers (although the 375s would eventually get Dellners as well). They are formed of three carriages and are third-rail only.

The main difference between the 377/3 and the 377s already in TSW are the older headlight clusters, the interior, which is 2+2 seating throughout with First Class only on one end, and the number of cars is three instead of four. This change in formation also has the knock-on effect of performance feeling a little different, with one less motor coach than before.

    East Coastway Remastered
Return to the seaside and take-in the views of the Sussex Coast as you’ve never seen it before in Train Sim World! East Coastway Remastered is releasing alongside the Southern BR Class 171 and 377/3, and will be required for both trains. If you already own East Coastway, you'll recieve the remaster completely free! You do not need to own the Class 171 & 377/3 Add-on to access this.

Accompanied by ocean views and golden fields, the picturesque East Coastway route runs between Brighton and Eastbourne via Lewes. Drive commuter and freight traffic across England’s southern coast and into the country’s oldest rail-served seaside town.

Whether you’re in the cab or trainspotting, you'll be able to experience all the sights and sounds of the East Coastway with the following Remaster updates:
    • ToD 4 lighting upgrade.
    • Updated landscape and foliage assets.
    • Updated track and ballast, including new track shadows.
    • Updated signal visuals.
    • Updated light baking for tunnels and stations.
    • New and updated scenery.
    • Updated distant scenery.
    • Opened Lovers Walk Depot.
    • Updated depot and yard areas around Brighton station.
    • Updated yard area around Eastbourne.
    • Added disused Newhaven Marine station.
    • Added rail singing.
    • Added AI whistle boards for stock with AI whistle functionality.
    • Fixed scenery issues which caused some assets to vanish when screenshots.
    • Station Announcements.
Class 377/4 and Class 313 trains will also have the following updates:
    • TOD4 Lighting updates.
    • Train Faults: Wipers.
    • Onboard Announcements.
    • Suspension.
    • Wheelblur Update.
    • Guard Mode.
    • Driver Assist.
Along with adding DSD audio so the Class 313 won't get emergency stopped without a warning to drivers, first.

East Coastway is out now on all platforms for £24.99 / €29.99 / $29.99. East Coastway Remastered will be coming soon for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Epic Games Store, and Steam and will be free for Train Sim World 6 players who already own the original.

Not buying until Rivet get their behinds in gear and fix the 170 running sounds on Fife Circle. With the engine idling sounds like it's gliding above the rails, that is to say no wheel resonance, joint or point/crossing audio.

Fair enough, once confirmed the back port is in place then I'll pop this on the wishlist for a sale. Still no excuse why they didn't address the issue already and the cynic here suggests if they hadn't wanted to sell us this pack, the Fife 170 would have stayed as it is.

As much as I like the 170, I do find it a little irritating how many packs they’re getting from it & yet it’s still a pretty mediocre train.

Still, I’m grateful they’re working to make all the various iterations of it consistent, it’s much more than can be said for most other pieces of rolling stock in game.

Also let’s be frank about the Fife version, the update they’re promising here was also promised several months ago in their last 170 pack.

When they released the 170 for Birmingham we were told the audio would be fixed on Fife Circle, now they are promising the same with this release, I think it's pretty reasonable for people to believe it when they see, or in this case hear, it.

My point exactly. Yes I should have read all the way through to the little footnote but Rivet have a habit of delivering and then leaving a wake of abandoned product behind them. On top of which, these Turbostars are the diesel equivalent of the Electrostar, one handled uninspiring, not very challenging boring trains. They have now joined the list of trains in TSW being recycled to squeeze a bit more money without actually having to do the work of building an all new loco or MU. Now if the add on pack had brought a Thumper and 4 CIG along with a retro timetable, probably would have been Day One.

I agree with the concerns about the Fife 170. An audio fix for it was already promised many moons ago when the Birmingham pack was announced. But I’m not sure if it ever happened, and if it did, it was very minor and didn’t change much at all. I’m certainly hoping they can get the fix out to the players very soon now so we can finally leave this behind us. :|

I digress… the new DLC is actually looking like a pretty cool pack, although I still think the price for these types of DLCs is way too high. Two rather minor reworks of existing trains, as well as a timetable which may have been built from the ground up, but ultimately doesn’t change the gameplay that much (in fact, it seems to be taking away much of the rail tour variety the original timetable had), and it costs more than some entirely new loco DLCs. For 8-9€, this would look like a much better deal.

I’m super excited for the accompanying remaster, though. ECW is a great route, but it really shows its age. The fact that it’s not just a TOD4 upgrade, but also includes scenery changes and brings all the locos up to the newest state of things as pretty cool. I have a special passion for this route because I visited the area twice during my two trips to the UK — and not just the railway, I actually spent quite a lot of time in Brighton, Seaford and Eastbourne. Especially the last two towns only caught my attention because of TSW, and I probably wouldn’t have checked them out in real life if not for the virtual East Coastway route. ;)

I’m assuming DTG is behind the remaster? I certainly want to support this kind of effort… perhaps I’ll finally get the Class 313 whenever it gets discounted next.

The Class 313 DSD doesn't have any audio in the real thing, or in any other traction AFAIK. I think what's wrong is that the 313 in the game has been given a driver's vigilance device (DVD) and that doesn't have any audio when it should have. No need to add audio to it as the real thing doesn't have a DVD, just remove the DVD or prevent the user turning it on.

Yep that's correct, the only thing you'd know if you had had your foot on the DSD for too long is if the GMS-R alarm started sounding.

    Also something I noticed.
The coach numbers are incorrect on the 377/3s, they do not follow the same numbering patters as the 377/1s. For example, 377310, DMOS A would be 68210, PTOSL would be 74810 and DMOS B would be 68410. This is because they were converted from 375s.

Haven't had time to analyse the route entirely,
but noticed with Lovers Walk that 1, 2, 3 and 4 roads are full 12 car roads, whereas in real life they are 8 Car roads. Similarly, on roads 1 to 7 adding the pits and side access pits to these roads would be a good addition.
No Waffle-board AWRs through the yard, also having a big rock wall the entire length from outside 12 road to the road bridge is slightly wrong too, as there is a large foliage area about half way up.
Apart from that, not too bad.

Noticed a couple of signs at Lewes Station are blank on one or two sides, in reality these are double sided.

The blue bridge design south of Lewes is unchanged and still wrong in creation; no canopy and the stairs on the Up-side are not heading towards the college.

I look forward to the upgrade. Already have enjoyed ECW, but better lighting and foliage will be even nicer.
    The pack?
    Maybe.
    On sale.
I like the 166/170 on other routes, but $16.99 just for the one train on the one route....
On the other hand, there's almost nothing else really on the route at present.
    There's the 377.... and that's it.
Everything else is just 7 different fill-ins for the same ONE railtour (31, 37, 40, 45, 52, 47 BR and 47 green) with a handful of VERY short aggregate runs for the 66.
That's kind of why I'm puzzled why this very narrow scope route was chosen as a priority for remaster.
Unless it was entirely done to sell the 171/377 pack.
But again, it's just enough to justify it for me.

    Half off?
Yeah... I can see maybe $8-9 for an interesting afternoon one time.
The 387 is in game already...why not include that too just for S&Gs?
I mean they run the Brighton-Eastbourne so they'd be traveling right down the route right?
Weren't 313s used for a time to free up 377s? Be a couple years out of the right date, but I don't think 2023 is that far off to prevent them being used for fun. It's as realistic as the Class 52/20 rail tours....
    Some 170s too from Scotrail?
If Rivet already has them from Fife... might as well throw them in too. What does it really cost to do that?
it runs on the line too at least a big since it connects to the BML.

Just saying their two trains offered are pretty lame.

For the standalone remaster, I personally would have also liked to have seen a modern timetable added (post Covid) this would have seen the addition of 387s running the Coastway services between Eastbourne and Brighton, additional freight services to Newhaven Marine, and if more recent, more 387s on Eastbourne to Vic services.

Waiting for someone to make a 73 now for RHTT substitutes, maybe this will give the push for a new modern timetable :)

Watching part of the stream replay it appears that the DVD has been removed so why they said DSD audio had been added is unclear. What audio hasn't been added to the revamped 313 is the Guard to Driver right way buzzer / bell, or at least I didn't hear it, but it's there on the 171. Time will tell I suppose.

On SEHS driving the 375 I noticed the DSD has no audio either and I got stopped because of it. I thought it was a bug?

The DSD doesn't have audio in reality or in the game, the DVD (Vigilance) does and it works for me in the 375 on SEHS (PC).

Caginess? Hardly. They'll announce the release date when it's all tied up 100% across all platforms with the remaster. This post sums it up nicely for me:

Someone mentioned that Liam (I think) mentioned a 387 as part of a GWE pack that would layer onto ECW?
So I guess that's why that wasn't included. Pity though it might have made each pack more useful.
As it is, two less valuable separate packs.

The only GWR services that would be on ECW are diesels and that layer is included via the Riviera Line 150. You could in theory have a debranded GWR 387 on ECW, running Southern services, but that’s only just now happening IRL - when this DLC’s TT is set, GWR were just about getting their 387s into full service on their own routes.

Basically there is nothing a GWR 387 can offer this DLC.

The 387 that’s already layered from BML however should really have some more runs than it seems to offer.

The two car variant of the 171 still has a squished gangway... Same as the 170/5....
