Hello, I recently purchased Losseless Scaling because I couldn't stand dropping from 70 to 30 fps or even 20 fps anymore. I'm quite sensitive to drops in FPS and it gives me headaches. The software works quite well and has managed to increase my FPS, but I still have some issues. 1. The camera has become heavy; its “weight” is influenced by the situation I find myself in. 2. There are micro-shutters that are not due to the map because I had already gone through it 5 times in its entirety without updating the graphics driver. 3. There are also image distortions, but these may be impossible to eliminate since they come directly from LS. Here are the best LS settings I've been able to find that ensure the best gameplay : Do you have any better settings or recommendations? Thank you in advance.
You will never get rid of all micro-stutter. Some small stutters will remail even if you have driven the road many times. My advise would be to try the method I have outlined here if you are not happy with the results you get from Lossless Scaling : https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/how-focusing-on-60-fps-might-ruin-your-experience.96588/
I had a go with frame generation with lossless scaling but found same issues (image distortion and stutters), upon doing some reading it seems it was because my system lacked enough ram to do it fluently (16gb) but with 32 or 64gb apparently it should run fine, at least in regards to distortion. For my part I decided to simply cap FPS at 35 to avoid sudden drops
I'm using a QHD monitor so my flow scale slider is set to 75% as it suggests in the info for the slider..... Various sites and forums suggested Capture API be set to WGC for best results.
As I stated it should work the same for Nvidia GPUs if you have a 144 Hz GSync Monitor with LFC and a minimum refresh rate above 36 Hz. Of course I can't try it so if you tried it and it did not work then please tell me what settings you don't see or why you think it does not work.
Nvidia just names it differently or not at all. It works very similar and most GSync Monitors absolutely use NVIDIA's equivalent. There might be some details that are different but the core concept should be similar.
I’ll caveat the following by saying that I’ve never been anywhere near lossless scaling, however thought I’d drop this here as it might help some who are looking for improvements. It might seem counterintuitive but the best improvement I ever got was installing Jetwash’s lighting mod. Better lighting and significantly reduced stutter has completely transformed the sim experience for me. Even on the High preset performance is significantly improved.
Thank you for all your advice. I limited my game to 40 FPS and used WaveyDavey's LS settings, which are much better than mine. Limiting the FPS reduces mouse heaviness, and LS takes care of adding what's missing.
Unfortunately, I don't know why it slows down my performance, even though I'm not greedy and i use the medium version.
Personally, I find that it adds a lot of benefit, but to do so, it needs to be configured properly, which is quite difficult to get right.
Ever since Nvidia added "Smooth Motion" to their driver, I've completely dropped LS. Better to have Frame Gen on the driver level than the software level, one less thing running in the background.
I’ll have to give this a try to compare. I take it you enable it in the Nvidia App on a game by game basis? Hopefully it’s available on a RTX4070 Laptop variant card.
Yeah, you have to add TSW, as it's not natively supported by the NVidia app. I do the same thing for X-plane.
I'm assuming this Smooth Motion is a RTX only feature? Can't find it under Settings for my GTX card. As regards Lossless Scaling, yes with hindsight wish I'd saved the money. As noted previously, if a route is struggling I just switch to 1440p. Too much faff for what it offers.
Its an NVIDIA GTX future but only for 4000&5000 series. If you own a 3000 series card you can not use it. AMD RX cards have the same option its called Fluid Motion Frames
The thing is with such programs it will not create better performance when you experience a low amount of FPS.... Most ideal is 40/60fps and that will double the amount so its not a thing the game runs worse i can enable it and all issues are gone. 40/60fps is already fine for TSW.
What I don't like about these programs is that even if you have 120 virtual FPS out of 40, as soon as you turn the camera, everything turns into a pumpkin. It feels like it's still 40 FPS, even though the counter says otherwise.
Not since the Talonsoft Battleground games years ago and they were probably for Windows 3.1 if not MS-DOS!
That's exactly what I mean. I wanted to say that if you have a GTX video card, then TSW at a resolution of 2560x1440 turns into a turn-based strategy with an FPS of 10-15.
Appreciate the irony but the counter to that is my GTX1650 is somewhat bionic. Most older routes sit quite happily at 30 FPS in 4K. Shap I can get 30 FPS at 1440p but choose to stick with 4K. The odd stutter or hitch is not the GPU anyway but DTG’s spaghetti code. I have toyed with the idea of putting a RTX 3050 in the box but, 1. Not convinced with my I7 CPU sat at 2.5Ghz it will just be bottlenecked and, 2. No point parting with £150 on a replacement graphics card which could go towards a new PC, albeit those plans have hit a slight check due to the recent hike in hardware prices.
I take it it's just a case of changing the Smooth Motion option to "On" as per below? Also do you have to have the Nvidia app open or running at Windows start for Smooth Motion to run within TSW? or is the app only use to make the changes to settings?
