For anyone who owns the latest TSW do you still find yourself going back and playing older versions of the game or do you delete them and move on ?. If you do go back then why ??. I don’t really see the point in it as the latest version has everything plus more features than the previous games have but I’m curious to know if anyone finds themselves going back to TSW 5,4,3 etc why you might prefer it over the latest game. For me I prefer to just stick with the latest version as it tends to have everything the older games have. I don’t see much point going back to TSW 5 and previous.
On this moment I've TSW3, TSW5 and TSW6 installed. Most of the old TSW and TSW2 routes are installed on TSW3, mainly to split TOD3 and TOD4 routes/trains and to avoid some remasters. On TSW5 I have Frankfurt - Fulda and Frankfurt S-bahn installed to avoid the Vectron on routes where I don't want this loco. My other routes are installed on TSW6, including some older routes for layers on newer routes.
I have TSW3, TSW4, TSW5 AND TSW6. I use the older versions to store Livery Designer uploads, as there is only space for 300 per game, so I currently have space for 1200. I still use TSW3 for some reliveries, but I'm using TSW5 for more and more now. I wish I'd kept TSW2 as I had a mod for GWE which back dated to the 1980s.
I don’t see a reason to go back to other versions, as I’d be losing access to TSW6 routes and features. I do see why some people stuck on older versions though, non blurry texture issues etc. I’m happy with TSW6 though.
I actually find there are fewer issues when trying to capture video to stream if I use a version that's had Denuvo removed. The performance uplift of the video capture is noticeably measurable, so this is sometimes helpful to my audiences.
I keep the last version with all DLC installed as a backup but I’ve not had to go back to a previous version to play it since the days of the 64GB limit on PS5 was preventing all DLC content being installed at once and I had only limited content in the latest game. I currently have TSW5 and TSW6 installed but only use TSW6.
Before GWE:R, I only played TSW5 because I didn't have any TSW6 DLC so no new features . I only installed the GWE and layers for it on TSW6 to avoid reinstalling all my DLC; for the other DLCs, I play TSW5
I’m still using TSW5 as I’m working my way through Peninsular Corridor, and I believe I would lose the CalTrain branding if I played it on TSW6
I simply don't see the point. I'm playing TSW less and less, upgrade or not makes no difference (because as mentioned before, 0 TSW6 DLCs) , and I never buy routes at full price, so even if there are TSW 6 routes that interest me, their promotion will be a long time from now
Yes I have TSW5 installed just for Peninsula Corridor and the Caltrain DLC. As I don't like unbranded routes.

Nah, I simply move on to the most current incarnation of the game. I personally have no reason to keep the older versions of the game and don't see much point in them once a new version is out. I'm not one that bothers with achievements etc... so I don't see much point in keeping an older version of the game with less features than the current one. It would feel like a digital Time Team to keep older variations of the game, so I'm quite happy staying up-to-date every year to enjoy the new features and add ons that become available.
I have TSW6 & TSW5 installed. And my TSW5 only has Peninsula Corridor installed for the branding as a console player.
Makes sense, but I think the point is that if you do upgrade to TSW6, you now have to pay for the basic edition instead of just getting it for free and then not installing it until you felt ready to make the move.
I play the older version because they don’t crash. Plus it crispy clear and smooth graphic game play.
I use the older versions for comparisons when people tell me it used to be better. I have all versions installed but with reduced dlc. Paul
I did install TSW2 a few weeks ago on my old PC just to see if I would still want to play it. I uninstalled it after 30 mins. I see no point really, unless you are on a platform where an older versions runs better.
I’m up to just shy of 500gb of content so don’t keep older versions. With that being said I’m tempted to reinstall 5 to have less blurry versions of GWE and potentially ECW if the latter remaster introduces The Blurries on Xbox.
Very interesting to hear about all your reasons for keeping older versions, some of which I’d never considered before, but make much sense in retrospect (e.g. getting achievements that are no longer available in newer games, storing liveries). I personally used to always immediately upgrade to the newer versions at release. I’d take screenshots of my old settings and remember the DLC count before deleting the previous game so I could make sure the newer version was immediately set up to my liking. But redownloading all the DLCs (60 for me by now!) has gotten more and more tedious, so I didn’t do it at TSW6’s release this time around. The fact that Peninsula Corridor wasn’t initially available for TSW6, which would’ve resulted in me actually having access to less DLCs by upgrading (!), played into my decision as well. Work has also been quite busy, and I had a period of a few months where I was mostly interested in other games whenever I found the time to play. I simply claimed the free starter pack in the store so I could be ready to move things over to TSW6 once the time came. That actually finally happened last week! The free GWE and SKA Remaster upgrades (as well as the incoming ECW one) gave me the motivation I needed to tackle the upgrade process. Now I’m finally on the new version. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the TSW6 versions of the DLCs no longer show up as compatible with TSW3/4/5 in the PS5 game content management menu (which was always incorrect anyways and resulted in great confusion when upgrading from one game to the other), so keeping track of my owned DLCs was much easier this time around. All these downloads were actually a nice way to stress-test my new internal SSD that I just installed in my PS5 (thankfully bought it on Black Friday last year, before the crazy price hikes kicked in!).
You can disable layers, no need to play GWE on TSW5. With the new timetable and Island Line 2022 + SEHS layers active, I do not have blurry textures on Series S. With the WCML layer for the 350 and 1972 stock active, unfortunately I do get blurry textures. The new timetable has also more services, even without layers, but you can also still play with the old timetable if you don't want to disable layers.
No. You are not going to get any fixes for older versions plus the install size is bloated enough without having two versions running side by side.
At one point during tsw5 I went back to 4 to collect achievements I missed. For about two weeks before I decided it was a bit of a chore and then gave up.
Had those layers disabled and it was originally fine but started getting blurry textures again anyway on my last run. I’d forgotten about the original timetable though, will see how that runs for me.
I like going back to 2020 for the nostalgia. After that you had TSW2 which is where, I think anyway, it all went wrong.
That’s a shame about that route… why can’t they bring that back ??. I had only joined TSW when it was on TSW2 so I never got to try the route…
During the TSW 5 era, I did go back to TSW3 to mop up some trophies I didn't have yet. There is no other reason, as all content is perfectly playable on the latest version.
It was an early one which unlike the others was built in a way that wasn't compatible with porting it to TSW2 and later ones. Which is why it's taken so many years for them to remake parts of it. First as part of NY-Trenton and now as part of NY-Stamford.
I don't. Hard drive is bloated enough with this game, don't want more than 1 version on it. Really need to start applying an option going forward where you can install DLC from a route but not the route itself. Lost track of how long I've been asking for this. As I put on another thread the TSW-layers model no longer works.
I joined when TSW2 was about a year old, just prior to the Rush Hour release. Bought the deluxe 2020 very cheap and moved it all up, bar NY and the shunter dlc. You're not missing much. As the Princess says, they've more or less recreated it anyway, but I'd like the shunter back.
On my Series X, i have both TSW 6 and the original TSW installed but only the Newark - New Rochelle DLC installed as i like to occasionally take a trip down the part of the NEC that goes over Hell Gate bridge, as well as doing some freight operations in Fresh Pond Yard and the rail yard just past Hell Gate (i forgot the name.) But, After NEC: NY - Stamford comes out, i don’t see a point in having it installed.
