Route Name: Dublin Connolly – Longford Line: Dublin Connolly → Drumcondra - Boomsbridge - Ashtown - Castleknock - Coolmine - Clonsilla - Lexilip Louisa Bridge - Lexilip Confrey - Maynooth - Kilcock - Enfield - Mullingar - Edgeworthstown - Longford Route Length: ~135 km (84 miles) Rolling Stock: IÉ 29000 class DMU IÉ 22000 class ICR GNRI Q class no.131 (steam heritage / railtour potential) View attachment 210229 RPSI Cravens & BG Van for heritage passenger services Gameplay: Modern commuter operations with high-frequency services near Dublin InterCity-style runs to Longford Heritage railtour scenarios using classic coaching stock Signal and timetable variety across suburban and rural sections Mix of short commuter runs and longer express services Scenery: Suburban operations around Dublin Connolly railway Station Midlands countryside west of Maynooth Small towns and rural stations Operational depth that complements the visual variety Licenses: Branding of Iarnród Éireann (Irish Rail) for modern stock Heritage licensing for steam and preserved rolling stock Collaboration with Railway Preservation Society of Ireland for accuracy and authenticity Time Periods: Modern era (primary) Heritage/railtour scenarios (optional layers) This allows contemporary commuter gameplay and classic rail experiences without requiring separate full builds. Why this route: I want to represent Irish commuter and regional rail with meaningful gameplay. The Dublin–Longford corridor provides a strong mix of suburban intensity and rural running, using realistic rolling stock such as the IÉ 29000 and 22000 DMUs. Heritage operations with GNRI Q class steam and RPSI Cravens + BG Van stock would expand gameplay variety and showcase Ireland’s rail history alongside modern services. This route would also diversify Train Sim World’s network with authentic Irish content and operational depth. Future Expansion Potential: This route is already part of the larger Dublin–Sligo network, continuing beyond Longford to Sligo Mac Diarmada railway station A base Dublin–Longford release could later expand toward Sligo, creating a full network over time without requiring everything at launch. This staged approach mirrors successful DLC growth in Train Sim World.
Sadly, Irish routes don’t seem to figure high on any payware developer list. We had one for MSTS and for all its life cycle, none for TSC. So I wouldn’t hold your breath.
It would be just a dream to have an Irish Route. I have made this suggestion before. And I made some fictional art. Though it only went to Mullingar. I felt Longford was a bit too far, especially with a high density terminus.
I had some very enjoyable trips around Ireland by train, albeit that was in the 80’s when everything (even the Cork to Cobh service) was loco hauled, most of the network was still jointed bullhead track and gems like Rosslare to Waterford were still open.
I still play the MSTS one... It's a shame Making-Tracks aren't around to do third party stuff for TSW. They really scratched that slam door EMU itch.
MSTS and Open Rails long gone from my PC... Thinking about it, I think there was a freeware version of the old Valentia Harbour branch from Farranfore for TSC, but not sure if it's kicking around for download these days. Now that would be a beautiful line to recreate in TSW, but alas we are back to the age old problem of scenic routes not having the traffic levels to be viable as a DLC.
