Hi, so my question would be. Are you using announcements for older non-TSW6 routes that don't natively come with them (like the new GWE Remaster)? How do you use them and what Software/Setup do you use? How do you trigger them? Do you just download from the well known Community Modding sites or did you create your own?
I'm not a fan of manual announcements and so don't use them myself, but many announcements are uploaded on the Train Sim Community website, there are a handful of automatic ones but the majority of them are manual ones that you would need to play yourself. The authors of these mods seem to mostly, if not all, recommend using the Soundpad software, which you can purchase on Steam.
I use a timetable-driven announcement system that runs independently from the route itself. So it works on older routes as well, without needing built-in announcements. Announcements can be triggered automatically based on timetable waypoints or manually during free roam. No Soundpad required. In my case it's integrated in ThirdRails, but the principle is simply: external timetable + trigger logic + TTS or Azure AI voice.
I use a simple AutoHotkey script. So no need for a paid software like Soundpad that installs drivers to your system. This way I can have multiple special announcements as well. Some maybe for delay or for certain stations. I think there are worse things than pressing a button but I also thought about a automatic way using the api.
Only when they are available through this app: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/app-tsw-passenger-announcements.95418/#post-1069268 Not a fan either of manual cycling of announcements, hence, if a route is not available in above app I am not using any…
It’s actually quite simple once you see it in action You simply choose "Start Service", pick a live timetable or custom one, select a voice, and drive. By default, announcements are triggered manually via the HUD, but they can also be automated using station waypoints. You can also make ad-hoc announcements on the fly. No Soundpad. No route mods. Since the system is very flexible, allowing you to use parameters, adjust intonations, and even randomize multiple configurations, I’ve made a 12-minute walkthrough video showcasing all the options:
