Hey Everyone, Not new to the game but getting back into it recently and enjoying it (even if it’s a little dated), however I’m having some graphics issues on modern system desktop. The graphics themselves look pretty rough aliasing wise and I spent a significant amount of time searching, watching videos, forums, adjusting the settings, NVidia graphics controls/control panel, RW Enhancer, etc. but I just can’t get the crispness I’m looking for on my desktop; the wires, and lines/edges of the locomotives and scenery are quite jagged. I recently bought a new g16 laptop with a RTX 5070 and looks great. I know I’m not going to get perfect but my desktop is way worse the my labtop. Any suggestions would be appreciated, I’ll leave my desktop info: MSI 34” ultra wide (3440x1440) ROG Strix E670 WiFi motherboard 5800x3d cpu Nvida RTX 5070TI gpu 1 TB SSD (x2) 850w power RW Enhancer AP Weather and Clouds Game use 64-bit 3440x1440 display (Borderless) Settings on High FXAA and SSAA 3x3 Anisotropic 8x I’ve just run out of ideas and I’m moderately tech savvy so I’m not sure why I can’t get over the hump.
Could you send a screenshot of what your TS looks like? The settings in TS are the same as I use bar the resolution and RWE, and for me it looks very smooth. In the Nvidia control panel you could try turning on MFAA, assuming you haven't already. I can't remember if other AA settings in the control panel override TS' settings. If you try turning off any AA settings bar MFAA it may help, but I can't say for certain.
And this could be another reason is Nvidia RTX 50 series cards cannot play older games. Read here. NVIDIA's new RTX 50-series cards have issues playing older PhysX games | PCWorld TSC does use PhysX.
I have a RTX 5060 TI 16 GB I haven't noticed any issues playing older games including TSC at 2560 X1440, but thanks for the info. Certainly something to bear in mind .
Yes, driver 591.44 read about it here. I've tested PhysX now that it's sorta supported on the RTX 50 series and I'm more convinced than ever it's a feature worth fighting for | PC Gamer To airbosn99 do you have graphics card driver version 591.44 installed, or later?
Not 100% about my laptop but reasonably sure it’s working off my graphics card, my problem with the aliasing is my desktop tho. My laptop is a 5070 and my desktop is a 5070TI, and it’s like I’m on two different planets.
TSC's Anti-aliasing isn't really as good as in newer titles. You may notice it if you haven't played for a long time and in that time you have been playing newer titles. There's not much you can do it about it apart from use the Nvidia control panel to imrpove the anti-aliasing as much as possible. Hope this helps
A laptop is always a cut-down version of a desktop computer of the same specs, hence the performance difference.
TSC 64bit does not use PhysX 32bit to my knowledge. The op said he uses Railworks64 so this should not be an issue.
I’ve found the opposite to be true. Using the highest setting TS offers (and MFAA turned on in the Nvidia Control Panel), it’s among the cleanest looking games I have on PC. It’s miles better than the appalling AA in TSW and SimRail, definitely.
I don't think so, as they fixed the issue in version 591.44 and every version after that should be alright.
Nvidia is having nothing but problems right now. All the new drivers are version 595! You don't need new drivers to play TSC, that's for sure.
Yeah exactly I just keep mine up to date. Thankfully I have not had any problems with anything *touchwood*
Even if you don’t need the newest drivers for Train Sim specifically, you should always keep your drivers updated to the most recent public release (non Beta). I wouldn’t update straight away, maybe 1 - 2 weeks after they’re released, but not updating your drivers makes your system unstable in mine and many others’ experiences.
It also depends on what other programs you run and do they need the latest version of Nvidia Drivers. Apart from TSC I don't have any other games that need good graphics. So I'm using an older driver with the idea of not fixing it if its not broken.
