Apologies if I missed the briefing, but has a potential release date been mentioned? What sort of timescale are we looking at? This month, 1 to 3 months, within 6 months or nearer Christmas. Not expecting DTG to state the exact date as that’s probably a trade secret, but for anyone interested in getting this would be useful to balance against the mainstream DLC coming out for TSW.
The 2026 series, which someone posted about somewhere, is due out in the Autumn. I can see it being timed alongside that, or not too far away!?
I assume the release date will be revealed either next week or the week after with the Percy and James trailers.
We can finally share the date you’ve all been waiting for. Thomas & Friends™: Wonders of Sodor launches on March 17th, 2026 for PlayStation, Xbox, Steam and the Epic Games Store! Will this also have passengers crossing the line in front of and being struck by moving trains which, judging by the silence from DTG in the Czech route threads, is now seen as acceptable?
I’m 67 and I’ll be buying it. I grew up with the books and my kids grew up with the TV series (the original with Ringo Starr). That’s my excuse and I’m sticking with it
I do find it odd that they chose not to release it in autumn like they do with their other titles. I'm fairly certain I've heard that the end of Summer and the beginning of Autumn is the best time to release a game to make the most money. Anyone want to hazard a guess?
Possibly to get a boost before the end of the financial year ? Maybe launching in the dead season for games is a good idea for attention from the wider gaming community?
TSW 7 is set to release then. Plus it's already done. It's not "odd" at all. Release it now, start making money now.
I'm a little surprised we haven't had a preview stream announcement? I was expecting one today but all on Railfan TV is the American route and Medway
And you would be the first to come here and complain if they did release it early that X Y Z is broken and they should never have released it no doubt.
That wasn't a demand, that was an explanation of WHY they're releasing now. I said that was DTG's logic because it was in response to someone asking why DTG didn't wait a few months to release SODOR. If it's done...then release it. I actually complain the least about "early content" and generally advise people to be patient and wait for updates.
if you are happy Vern thats all that matters we all like different things. I am watching this release with great interest
Oh I have no intention of buying at least not at full price. More to see what the wife says when she picks up the tablet!
I'll be buying the deluxe version, hopefully next month when I get paid. But I'll be keeping an eye on it first to see how console players have been shafted.
Hi folks - just to confirm, Wonders of Sodor is out now! We had plans for a preview stream, but when working with Mattel and the team, we have to take deeper considerations for these events. We do have a wonderful range of creator content that is now live, so be sure to check this out
what deeper considerations do you have. You get permission for the branding/licensing etc so why would you have considerations for a previous stream etc
Not necessarily something I can dive into, but when working on an IP this large, we have to ensure that all of our plans have approval from all parties involved and are supported in a way that best suits the new release.
In straight talk then, Mattel and DTG didn’t want to risk people bad mouthing or being critical of what the stream might have shown, prior to release!
So it’s a cash grab then… And the critical people are being silenced through clever methods… Well done, very professional…
It’s at best a temporary measure as there will be plenty of streams and reviews in the public domain after a couple of days, where it will stand or fall on how good a job they’ve done. As noted, I’m following with interest but not intending a full price purchase.
the controls might be a bit basic for the purists but I’ve really enjoyed it from the first hour or so
Is there any feedback on console versions so far? Any obvious bugs? Blurred textures etc? Or does it all look good?
To be fair, I don't usually buy based on the "official stream", but rather from letting actual people get their hands on it and explore a bit. Big IPs and corporations can be a pain so it doesn't really surprise me. Imagine what it'd be like if it was a Disney franchise....
PS5 - I’m not going to do a full bug report yet but I played a timetable run with Gordon and there are some major issues with it. There are settings in the HUD for elements that just aren’t in the HUD (so no track monitor or signal and speed limit warnings actually appear on screen) and the setting for the rainbow stop marker doesn’t work so that’s always on. The controls in the cab can’t be used as the hit boxes just don’t appear. They appeared at one point but then disappeared again. The brake and throttle can only be increased with the controller and not decreased so it is more like the simple controls. I think it was forgetting I’d set it to realistic controls. I checked the settings were as I’d set them multiple times and nothing had reverted, they just don’t work. There’s even a description in the controller settings for AWS and PZB alerts, like they will ever appear. The controller layout descriptions don’t match what the controller buttons actually do. It’s not great. I could finish the run but it was tricky.
They did say it's "based on TSW" so... maybe still a bit TOO much TSW copy/paste? Sounds like it's time to fire up that new "Feedback" section for individual issues.
Ironic... Sidelining TSW users by supposedly building your own game and hoping no one complains, only to mess it up… That means you’re doing a lot of things wrong. And then asking a price that’s basically ridiculous. What you get is a game full of bugs, because in the end it’s secretly just TSW and TSW means bugs all over the place. Happy release day #not
At least if had been done as a TSW add on it could have layered in proper trains without a face on them, or we could have set up our own runs in Scenario Planner. I wonder how long it will be before the modders work out how to port TSW stuff over and use it?
Yeah. I just don’t feel like being one of the first bug reporters today. I’m not very well and it’s my birthday. I usually like to explore bugs and find what’s repeatable before doing a proper bug report but I’m not doing that today. So just a quick summary from my first run here.
Hello stujoy We’re aware of the issues you’ve raised here and the team is actively looking into them. That said, feedback so far has been very positive on consoles overall, so we’re sorry to hear you’re not having the same experience right now. Just to add a bit more context on specific points: Track Monitor: We’re aware this isn’t appearing correctly, and it’s planned to be looked at post-release. Cab Controls: This one looks like it could be an issue, but we’d need a bit more info or screenshots to help investigate. We haven't seen reports about this previously. Brake & Throttle/Settings not applying: if you could let us know exactly which settings aren’t changing as expected, that would really help us track this. Again, thank you for your feedback so far. All the best, Jan EDIT: Also, happy birthday
Thanks Jan For the cab controls - I was driving Gordon with the realistic controls option turned on. After discovering I could only increase the throttle and brake and not decrease them with the controller*, I went into cab view to try changing the controls inside. The controls could not be moved as nowhere on any control was there the usual hover-over display that comes up when pointing at a control that indicates it’s operable. At one point during the journey though, when going to cab view, these displays did come up and I could grab and move the controls as expected but after going to external view and back to cab view it reverted to them not being operable, with no hover-over display. There was no way to grab the controls. It’s that experience that led me to think it may have ‘forgot’ that I was using realistic controls and thought I was using the simple controls, as I suspect the cab controls aren’t operable in that mode. I had been going back to the settings pages during the run to see if anything had changed but they were all as I had set them. * I would have expected that the realistic controls would have worked the same way as TSW for brake and throttle - with R1 and R2 being decrease and increase throttle and L1 and L2 for the brake but both controls could only be increased, R2 for throttle and L2 for brake. After only one run and with the other things going on I couldn’t tell if this was as designed or a bug. I had no way of decreasing either the brake or the throttle in any case.
I'm not sure there is a realistic controls/simple controls switch. I couldn't find it, so I assume that there's one set of controls.
It’s in one of the sub menus, there’s a toggle for it. I haven’t bothered as the kids will play this game just as much as I will. Cracking game so far!
