Okay, so Köln - Aachen REMASTERED is 30,- euros. Br 145 is 36,- euros. what is happening?? I know it is an expert train but it still makes no sense. Same thing for the expert 101. I hope the upcoming br147 won't cost as much...
It won't the examples are expert locos with many features, the BR 147 won't have so many features, just AFB, SIFA, PZB and prob LZB and yeah that was is. And second SKA is an DLC for TSW 2 where DLC were cheaper now a "normal" route will cost 36 euro too
still, the route having (almost) the same price as a loco till makes no sense... Lime a normal game is even cheaper than 1 loco pack.
Well it wouldn't make sense if it was a normal loco add-on which is never the same price as a route. The two examples are expert ones which offer a lot more and I suspect are for a more limited audience. This discussion has happened occurred a few times.
The £30 price tag is reserved for expert locos because they take as much time to make as a standard route, sometimes longer and are much more in depth than your standard loco. Compare the default 101 to the expert for example, it’s a night and day difference. And as for the 147, it’s not an expert dlc and hasn’t been marketed as one so why would the price be higher?
I do get it that a expert loco is not called expert for nothing, but prices have always been a problem since tsw3 already, first a route was 25 euros or 30, now 36 or 40. So, yes I get tit that a expert loco may take as long as a route (wich is also the reason some routes are low quality), but the pricer are still too high in my opinion.
I suspect the people making rolling stock are different than the ones making routes, at least for most of the dev work. That’s why you can get a new MU/loco for £12-15 yet a whole route plus stock is only £15 more. There’s obviously going to be different factors in route development compared to stock development, but ultimately the simplest way to say it is that you pay £15 for team A’s time on a loco, then £15 for team B’s time on a route. The example of the expert stock is different though because much more time is obviously going into that, you also need to consider the more niche a product, the more needs to be charged to get a return.
VERY few people will buy the "expert" locos compared to routes. To pay your staff to work on the, you need to charge more since the cost of the staff is similar. Same reason any rare "collectibles" cost more than mass produced items. It's simple economics.
Simple said, prices are mostly calculated for Time per Manpower. Not for amount of content in the DLC. When 5 people working on a loco DLC for 2 years it is more or the same time (and therefor cost) than when 10-15 people working on a route for 3-5 month. It's mostly about time not amount. Developers have to pay their expenses per month not per DLC.
Well yes, but time only in that it relates to payroll during that time. That's why some "passion projects" can be cheaper because the person doesn't expect to be paid full cost for all that extra time. Anyone paying employees however needs to make payroll.
Price is subjective. They have risen very little from the early days of Rail Simulator maybe even MSTS. Just wait for a sale if it is too high.
Don't forget that the € 30 for Köln-Aachen is a price used for older routes. Newer routes go for € 35 or € 40. So if you're going to compare, compare it to those prices, not the 'older' one.
The 101 Expert and 145 Expert have more features and that is part of the extra cost. At least with the 101 so far, TSG has been adding timetables, fixes, improvements and liveries for months after release. Add that each time I have a doubt about how something is supposed to be used in the loco, or I express a doubt about if something should be one way or another they are giving me a reasoned answer. Same if I suggest to add or change something. They always reply if they can or cant do it and explain why. I can only say I happily payed 36€ for each of those locos and do not regret doing it.
Yes & we all know if this was any other stock pack, those liveries would be getting put into ‘gameplay packs’ for no less than 4.99 a pop. Same for the 145 having its passenger variant & RBH livery, the passenger version of other locos would likely be their own DLC (almost like the 187 & now 147).
