Just for your Information. I just noticed that both Thomas DLCs are in my DLC list. I never bought either of them, so it seems there's another free trial weekend. Probably to get people interested in Wonders of Sodur.
I do wonder if this sort of thing is why DTG’s ventures into new games keeps failing. They never really market outside of their existing playerbase. Catan, that tram game they published, Thomas & now Metro Rivals. The only place I ever see anything about them is inside TSW, or in TSW community spaces. Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying they shouldn’t be putting feelers out in those spaces, but they seldom really advertise anything elsewhere. It probably ties into the whole ‘we get more players with new TSW titles’ because the only way you ever see DTG’s games are in the ‘new this week/month’ sections of storefronts. I mean they’re obviously saving loads on marketing, but man how much must they be losing on sales through sheer reluctance to not spend money.
I don’t think this is necessarily true. Most of my friends are not interested in trains, let alone train simming. Yet when the new Thomas game came out, I had 5 different people send me the trailer they saw on either YouTube or Twitter. It may have been that way before, but it seems the game has been more popular lately at least in my findings.
And as I type this, I see 3 different posts about the Thomas game on Instagram. Maybe it’s because Thomas is more mainstream, but people are definitely talking about it.
