I will say generally it is suggested to back out to the menu after completing a service, especially on Xbox. The more runs you do without going back to menu, the higher your chance of getting instabality/a texture blurring issue there is. TSW doesn't clear it's memory perfectly (most games don't), and it will build up without unloading the world back to the menu.
So yes I did do multiple runs in a single load and only experienced blurry textures at the end of the service around strood. I did a run in the 465 from gravesend to strood straight after and blurry textures appeared again around strood. I can’t remember the service Headcode, I’ll check in the morning. Hope that helps .
Yeah that'll be why then, should only really be doing a single service per load in to be safe, or at most two. Any more than that and you're really going to make blurry textures more and more likely. With the way TSW handles memory unloading (every train you encounter remains in memory), that will always be an issue, optimisation will only make it take longer. You really should return to the menu after every service, or at max every other service. Otherwise you will encounter issues.
I also have CtD even without the ini files, and it seems that crashes only happen when you are near or running a train. I suspect some Nvidia Drivers does not like the new features, so looking into graphics driver issue. I am on 581.80, upgrading to 595.97 to see if issue still persist. EDIT: Issue is resolved! Did a 100mph run through and no crashes. Anyone who still have crashes, please update your graphics driver. (Especially Nvidia users)
That's wild that it doesn't cull trains from memory when no they're longer around, is that the case for trains that (presumably) despawn as they go off the map?
Yep, currently when a train is loaded into memory, it stays in memory until you go back to the menu. So no matter how much we optimise, every train that loads is permanently taking up memory. We optimised enough that you should be good enough for one and a half - two hours of being in the same session on Xbox (vast majority of normal gameplay), but beyond that you're more and more likely to get blurry textures as the game doesn't unload trains.
The trains not unloading from memory, is this something in the core of the game or more an engine issue?
I’m hoping to get this today, but can I just say to the team at Firefly, your presence on here and post release support to the community is exceptional, in the all the years I have played TSW, I haven’t seen anything like it. DTG and other DLC producers should really take note, this level of support is refreshing and absolutely something that renews my confidence. I can not wait to see what else you guys produce!
What a ridiculous statement. "Oh yeah one thing is broken so let's just throw in the towel and abandon a third of our income"... Genius!
couldnt resist and got this one... did one run, will definitely do more on my next day off ... also loving how in the end, like last 6 miles or so, you join the mainline and you can run full throttle to 100 mph ...also the GSM-R setup when starting a service is a lovely bit to spice up every run, one little step towards this feeling like a real train setup btw anyone knows why outside stations my left cab screen goes black (375)? is it cos IRL it would show CCTV? anyway, great stuff, another chill UK route
It'd feel like a kick in the teeth if that happened... I've spent good money on many addons and it'd be awful if DTG decide to jack it in because they can't fix the issue which barely any other games seem to have.
And not to forget about the issue on PS5 preventing layers from loading, which is just a hard limit on PS side. Also PS5 has blurry textures, so blurry textures is in fact a game issue and not a platform issue.
It's been reported, according to Firefly DTG have found the issue and potentially have a fix but DTG haven't said anything on the matter themselves. I think it's unlikely we’ll get a fix until at least Tuesday
Thanks for the clarification, I wasn’t aware of that. So do you mean just go back to the tsw main menu or the Xbox menu and quit then restart the game? If the latter that’s pretty annoying icl.
I’m not convinced it’s a 3rd. Sony own 70% of the console market share for starters. I’m just not a fan of the dramatic “oh no I’ve got blurry textures” posts. Yes we get it, Firely just need a heads up, not arms flailing and rolling around. I do take back what I said about Xbox though, it probably is a little harsh to drop the whole game.
Ideally, you should return to main menu after every service (or at maximum chain two or three services). And do a full restart every day (or sometimes in between if you play all day ). This gets you the best possible performance.
Any ideas how to remove the ballast drawing in on the track foreground? It’s a bit like the old track shadow issue or is that a core problem on PC?
I’ve started to get the crashing issue too, is there anyway around it apart from deleting the engine.ini file? I don’t want to ruin the settings for all my other DLC for this one?
That sounds like a good solution to me. Of course you would need to restart the game in between route changes, I suppose. But better than the game crashing
Yes, but fiddly. Perhaps a more favourable solution for anyone who has an engine.ini modified by anyone other than JetWash, I have reverted back to JetWash last one and it works beautifully this far. No crashes at all. Spoke too soon, the same Exceptional_access_violation crash
I only have the vanilla settings in the .ini file and in Godmode, I use the Euston-MK settings for the Medway, had no problems at all in regards to CTD's
Are you able to copy your Godmode settings on here? Hopefully there’s a fix very soon, it’s getting a little frustrating. All my mods are up to date and now the game looks a bit rubbish without the engine.ini file
You need to remove the lines related to memory streaming, garbage collection etc in the main ini for now. I will try and update that mod asap but it’s not going to be until next week. If you don’t know what to do then just remove all the lines from the main ini for the time being. The GodMode element is fine to stay
The track is default except for the colours, so is identical to every other route in the game. Nothing about it, LOD, draw distance etc has been altered.
Thanks, I have tried the GodMode mods you suggested and it still crashes and have no removed the engine.ini. If that doesn’t sort it, I’m completely perplexed as I have up to date mods
It's ini related, all crashes are. Much as I don't have the time I'm sat updating my mod to put an end to this.
I will not have time to test it, but I will update it now once and for all to stop this happening. If people choose to use other ini setups or commands after this then that is outside of my control I’m afraid.
