absolute nonsense, you’re acting like tsw was an established titles for many years before the console version came along
Fair enough but it’s not the first time the squelching has been very apparent, it really does destroy the immersion. Note this is in no way shape or form critical of the Class 90 which does look and sound quite nice actually and I probably will pick up in a sale at some point. No, it’s frustration at DTG’s continuing lack of progress in resolving fundamental core issues. The take they are getting from the current crop of releases ought to be enough to bring in some ace programmers and bottom it for once and for all.
I don't know about the technical side of the house, but UK stock uses hook/chain and can use German stock. North American stock uses couplers. The only "cross compatible" loco that can do both I know of is the Class 66 since it's built in Canada.
Agree, I just hate having multiple timetables to choose from. Another thing that’s bothering me is the lack of TT services and laying onto other UK routes. Hopefully this will change in the coming months. As it currently stands I don’t see any reason to pick up this dlc, day one.
in fact, it's absolute nonsense when someone writes that if it weren't for the investments of console players, TSW wouldn't exist. whether you agree with this or not, it doesn't make any sense, since it was PC players who invested in the old generation simulator RS/RW/TS, and initially in the new generation simulator TSW. investments are important from all players.
i’m not denying that, if you’d read what i said then you’d see that i never did. my point is that the majority of investment comes from console players
I’ve seen these running on the North London Line too, as usual in pairs, so perhaps it could be put on the Suffragette Line for some added variety. Of course also other sections of the WCML and the ECML. Just using it in free roam is not good enough and a bit of a cop out in all honesty, I want to see it as ai traffic not be the only one on the route. I’d of thought there’d be some popularity for game packs to that end, as long as some new scenarios were done as well as adding it to the TT I think they’d sell well.
Er, how exactly is it console PLAYERS being a burden? Why all this negativity against fellow players of the game? (Not just you but several posters here). We are one community, yes?
They don't run on the GOBLIN, but they do appear on the NLL running between the GEML and WCML. Hopefully when the Mildmay line timetable is updated for the extension, a Class 90 layer will be included.
This may change when the Class 99 comes in to service, as tests are going on for heavy AC freight locomotives between Hampstead Heath and Stratford via South Tottenham. The wires have been replaced recently on the Tottenham incline, which I think allows for heavy AC freight, still waiting for the updated Sectional Appendix to cover these changes.
I swear I do recall Matt addressing the squelching once, it might have been in reference to WCMLoS. He explained that it was down to how Unreal loads in map tiles, the squelches happen when jumping from one tile to the next and increase based on how much is in that tile to be loaded. He then admitted that as a result there was almost nothing they could do about it because it isn't even a fault in how they built the game, the issue lies solely within the way Unreal Engine itself works.
I believe this is correct but the interesting thing is, why does it only affect certain locos? The 66 is really bad, some versions are so bad the sound actually cuts out making the frame stutter really pronounced. Then with other locos, and all DMU/EMU’s it doesn’t happen at all. I wonder why this is, would make for a good roadmap question.
I mentioned a few weeks ago that the Freight Skodas will be useful for the long-term with TSW. They're a common sight on workings on C2C, GEML, ECML, WCML and the North London Overground lines. The passenger locos (I assume the BR Parcels ones will be included in the latter pack) will have more limited appeal but still useful for WCML, GEML and ECML.
What a terrible sound these locos have at high speed! I requested a refund immediately what a disappointment. The FPS‑related sound bugs are also extremely annoying. Whenever the FPS changes even slightly, the audio goes completely weird. I only have this issue with JT trains and this one, and with JT it’s already quite distracting, but with this Class 90 it’s on a whole different level. Sorry, but this is an instant refund after just 5 minutes of trying it. That really says enough.
That's the sound UK 25kv traction motors from the 80 and 90s sound like. You wait until you hear how loud and annoying a Class 92 at full speed, sounds.
But both JT with their Class 86 and 87 and AP with their old 90 pack have a much more pleasant sound profile than this 90, maybe it is more realistic but it just isn't that nice to listen to when driving.
Just to pick up on an earlier point (sorry haven’t been keeping up with the threads), Unreal Engine 4 should be able to scale graphics and textures to the capabilities of the platform by way of the game graphics settings. So your HQ modern PC textures would normally be scaled down to a size that can be handled by consoles and old PCs. Not sure why the base textures would need to be universally low quality if UE does all the hard work. Then again I’m not really an expert, but that’s my understanding of what scalability should do in principle.
How can something be realistic without reference material?! They couldn’t record any sounds while driving, so it’s doomed from the start. We’ve seen it so many times in TSW already: without proper recordings, it’s simply unwise to release an add‑on. And yet, after so many failed projects, they still feel the need to push it out. The fact that it sat on the shelf for so long already shows that maybe it would’ve been better not to do it at all.
The sounds were done without any real recordings of it running? Why not just ask AP to do the sounds at that point since they do have afaik real running sounds, I know they would want a cut but it would be much more worthwhile.
Sorry, but it unfortunately doesn’t work that easily! Sounds come with certain rights, and it could be that AP holds the exclusive rights, meaning they can’t resell them or there are other restrictions that make it impossible. Not everything in this world is for sale.
They actually got quite a bit of recordings from the class 89/ class 90 testing runs not too long ago mentioned on stream so should be pretty realistic since it’s from the train itself
No, from what I understand they were only able to record static sounds, so no running sounds at all. Only recordings from a parked locomotive. If I understood it correctly, there had been a fire in the engine compartment, so they couldn’t even look inside, let alone run it. The fire caused a lot of damage to the locomotive, unfortunately.
but it does not hold that speed, it keep accelerating past the set speed, if I set it to 45. well it goes in no time to 100+
This is a review from the Steam page, and I have to say it’s very fair. It perfectly explains the issues I’ve experienced and tells the full story for me and its very fair i must say! It's hard for me to post this, but I have to. I was extremely hyped for Class 90 in TSW, and since this is based on the 86/87 design I was (probably dumb of me) expecting a similar level of love to the amazingly well designed 86 and 87 by Just Trains for the Preston route. Class 90 is probably my favourite locomotive IRL so I was hyped and bought this instantly. I have to write a negative review for now because of some major issues that need to be addressed: (not in any particular order) 1) Class 90 services NEED to be integrated into the updated, modern WCML timetable that was revamped. As it stands class 90 are only in their own, standalone, watered down timetable that feels almost empty. You won't see this train as an AI layer afaik, in the most up to date WCML timetables. 2) The audio is disappointing. While the electrical noise of the Class 90 itself is well represented and sounds good, the undercarriage, and traction itself, the sound of the wheels and clanks of the chassis... are almost non existent or very, VERY quiet. It sounds almost like a Maglev. This is a common issue with some TSW loco addons... 3) The textures are very mediocre. The resolution in general is pretty mid and it has noticeable banding/compression/pixelation artifacts. This is most noticeable on the cab dash board which I am staring at for hours when driving it... The textures are vastly inferior to the class 86/87 (different developer) which I had hoped would be the baseline quality for the class 90... 4) the engine room is NOT modelled. To enable DSD you have to interact with a "Magic sticker" on the engine room door and pretend you opened the door, which just kills immersion for me. Again, since I expected the class 86/87 to be the baseline standard, they both have modelled engine rooms... so big disappointment here. I am not refunding the DLC because I hope the developer will patch these concerns and polish this iconic loco into what it deserves to be. But, as it stands, I cannot recommend it at this price when it has the feel of a mid/high-level mod, not an official DLC.
Did you go down hill? Its not holding the train when you go down hill you need to brake by you're own
you should be able to set your speed set to, for example 75mph, and it will hold throttle power to keep you there, it doesnt do braking though so if you are on a downward grade you will need to intervene
In that case write a bug report in the Feedback thread. Dont forget to tell them the platform you play on.
You should have access to the Feedback section of the forums. Maybe DTG Harry or DTG Alex can check if there is something wrong with your account?
Barking, Ripple Lane and Dagenham Dock mostly but I've seen them heading for Tilbury Freightliner Terminal at Stratford having come off the NLL before diverting off the GEML towards Barking and then on to Dagenham or Tilbury. It's become more common since the GOBLIN was electrified as that gives operators two ways of getting around London with electric traction. This is why I think the LTS should be in TSW. Most people think of commuter trains but the Tilbury loop has always been a busy freight line too. I used to stand at Ripple Road level crossing (RIP) in the 1970s with my grandad (also RIP) watching the long trains of oil tankers, car transporter wagons and even coal for the power stations along the line.
You won't have seen them going to Tilbury Freightliner for about 6 years. Seabrooks sidings which are where Tilbury Freightliners used to go had the wires de-energised before COVID and it's strictly Class 66 only now. You'd have to have the LTS set in the early or mid 1990s to have them realistically on there. Class 88's can go to Tilbury 2 but have to go to diesel at Tilbury Town. Class 99's will go to London Gateway but will be on diesel from Thames Haven Junction. Class 90s aren't cleared on the GOBLIN so they can't run along it.
A less confrontational approach is always best in collaborative places like online forums. I'm sure you didn't mean to come across as supercilious and/or disdainful, but that's how this reader took it. Anyway, in response; Class 90s used to be cleared for the GOBLIN so that must have changed. I saw one with my very own eyes shortly after electrification while 378s were operating the LO service. While I'd be delighted for the LTS to be set in the 90s, why is that necessary to "have them realistically on there" if they only stopped running to Tilbury about 6 years ago? Maybe set it in 2017/8, when both Tilbury FL and the GOBLIN were energised.
Always makes me chuckle that Alan Thompson used to sit in his shed, drunk, and slag off DTG to the highest heavens whilst his minions tittered in the chat, and now a piece of his work isn’t great they’ll defend him to the hilt. Excuses after excuses with them. Looking forward to the MAC optimisation update so the FPS doesn’t drop into single digits around the yards.
Apologies. Wasn't being confrontational, just genuinely surprised that the 90s had been down the LTS, thought you were implying recently. Class 90s lost their clearance on the GOBLIN when NR decided to de-energise Tilbury IRFT. I believe the 90s can still run with a exemption but that hasn't been given on the GOBLIN. Interestingly though the Class 92s and MK5 coaches have just been cleared to run along the GOBLIN on Easter Sunday to Haringey Incline and up on the ECML for KGX running over Easter. According to Gemini and ChatGPT records last show evidence of a Class 90 going to Tilbury in 1992. I'll keep digging. DB Cargo ran the last Class 90 liner in 2023, that was a Tesco train out of Tilbury 2, which went to Wood Grange Park, then Forest Gate Junction to Stratford which would indicate that it wasn't cleared for the GOBLIN as that route is less impactful than sending a liner via Stratford as you block the Lizzy Line.
Agree that the WCMLS timetable is pretty poor. I’ve just been spawning on the Evero timetable, but annoyingly I’m always routed onto the fast lines. On the plus side, someone has made a decent Swallow version on CC, so I can run a few LSL rail tours! Don’t regret the £12.99 I paid, but hope ATS take on board the feedback as it’s far from perfect.
Good job to Alan / DTG for this wonderful fail. There is ONE UK train to not fail and they succeed to fail it.. Good job !
That was only the one in Crewe which they used as reference material for the modellers and artists Pretty sure they said about audio recording in the last 30 minutes of the tsw part of the stream
Fun fact it’s a bit difficult to add a engine room when the one they could go inside was burned but they did say on stream they would try it add it if they got access to a class 90 engine room Some of the audio recordings are from the class 90 running with the 89 also mentioned in the stream the textures are only low to prevent blurry textures and they already showed off the high res version a handful of times, this part you can blame dtg for since they can’t do much until the fixes come (and don’t even think about saying “oooohhhh the pc version should have gotten them anyways”)
The higher res textures are being made available as a mod for PC players in the interim anyway, so they can use them if they wanted
As of 1841hrs 31st March, no. No, the AWS still doesn't work with the controller button. If you want to play with a keyboard or without them, it is still playable though
Hi everyone, While testing a schedule by walking around outside, I noticed this: And what's more, it's flashing a bright, vibrant red! I thought I had a fire under the machine, lol And like others, AWS is disabled via the keyboard and not the B button on the Xbox controller for those who, like me, sometimes play. So, to disable AWS/DSD, for me right now it's A on the keyboard and B on my controller, but it doesn't stop anything, neither AWS nor DSD. Well, this superb Class 90, so eagerly awaited and hoped for, I wasn't expecting this, especially considering what a large majority of the community thinks about other problems mentioned above: the schedules, the indoor/outdoor sounds. Well, I hope the patches are already planned ! Regards to all, tof
