It's not a physical poster. It's just additional posters in game on the stations etc. It just adds more variety.
and here we are again its almost april aka DTG will soon release the new monthly challenges i hope there not to hard again
The numbers are thankfully exaggerated. For Mastery Level 1, one Service on Kassel-Würzburg with the IC Cab Car was enough.
So do we know what the real Mastery objectives are, or is it not going to update until 1200 UK time? I’d certainly relish the challenge of 2500 miles/4000 km though. How about it, Jamie/Alex?
Lots of ways to mix it up. Several lovely VP185 HST runs on MML. GWE back and forth to Reading a few times. Some zoomie zoomie on ECML. Plus a bit of WCML action, south or B2C. And that’s before looking at Germany.
Perhaps they want us to revive Flight Sim World! Though as they never got round to adding jet aircraft, doing 25000 miles in a Cessna akin to doing that with a 142 in TSW.
Walk 1km while collecting 6 items. Complete 3 scenarios. Complete 10 timetables with a certain temperature.
That is really disappointing. It’s almost like they have given up trying to invent any sort of real challenge. I thought the whole point of moving to the two tier system was that the second one would really push and encourage people to get stuck into and stick with the game for most of the month. Looks like I’ll be back in Snowrunner etc. earlier than anticipated in April!
There's a balance though between the time people have available and making playing the game feel like a chore. I personally don't have the time to spend hours and hours throughout the month on TSW, just the odd couple of hours here and there, so the current 'challenge' suits me fine. And there are plenty of masteries in individual routes for people looking to complete their virtual ticks. Edit - also, I don't think the point is to make people play TSW and nothing else all month. Engagement doesn't have to rule out variety, and I for one play a mix of TSW, WoW and Elite Dangerous as my top 3 games (with many others sitting waiting for my attention, probably come retirement!).
Fair point, but there could be a bit more challenge. Been a while since I played Elite Dangerous - used to enjoy making the journey up to Beagle Point including not getting blown up doing a neutron jump but I guess that’s old hat now.
Perhaps Tier 2 could be replaced by a Community Challenge. For example, where we all collectively drive 1 Million Kilometers.
There’s scenarios on Sherman and Spirit Of Steam where all you have to do is walk a few hundred yards to the marker and that completes it. If you save just before completion you can reload and repeat to get the total done without even having to repeat walk the full distance again.
I know these monthly masteries have existed for a while, but I think I only got my first poster in March… played a lot because I bought quite a bit of content during the big PlayStation sale. I play the game regularly, but could never reach the amount of commitment needed to unlock the posters in previous months. I made me think of something… the livery designer badges are a perfect limited-time mastery reward, but I wish there were more ways to get the posters. Don’t get me wrong — players who are active during the month a new poster is released should be rewarded appropriately. But since it’s not just a sticker hidden deep inside the Livery Designer, but an actual art asset that can show up inside one’s owned routes, I feel like locking it away to a small amount of players who completed a time-consuming set of challenges during a small timeframe is overly restrictive. I propose two potential changes to make the posters easer to access, while keeping the importance of the monthly mastery challenges: Solution 1: Simply swap the rewards around. The first set of challenges, which can usually be completed within a few hours even by casual players, gives out the poster as a reward. The livery designer badge is then given to those who complete the second, more difficult set of challenges. This would make it easer to get the limited-time poster each month. Solution 2: This is the fun one. Alongside the monthly mastery, a new challenge that is not time-limited appears at the top of the mastery menu. Something that isn’t super easy, but can be done by all players by simply playing the game regularly. For example: Drive 1000 Kilometers. Mastery posters from past months automatically enter the reward pool for it. One of them is randomly chosen and given to the player each time they complete the challenge. It can be completed indefinitely until all posters are earned. This would keep an avenue open to earn any poster without time pressure after its mastery month is over, while still making it a lot more attractive to do the monthly mastery challenges if you want a specific poster relatively quickly.
Seriously? Time-consuming tasks? Most of the monthly mastery is completed in one or two evenings. Only in February was there anything more or less challenging. And at Christmas, in addition to the monthly mastery, there were three additional ones. And considering that the mastery tasks on specific routes duplicate some of the tasks from the monthly mastery... The tasks are already extremely simple, why make them even easier in terms of time?
To the contrary. I would say that this is exactly DTG's point. What would they gain by making you play other games? ;-)
As with all masteries, if you focus on doing the Tier 1 challenges at the start of the month you will probably then complete Tier 2 just through natural play. I learnt to do it this way after completing all the scenarios on the Bernina Line before checking the Tier 1 requirements, which were to walk 3 miles so hadn't progressed at all, Tier 2 was to do the scenarios...
So I presume as they haven’t updated the “Fool” yet, Tier One just clears regardless of what you do? Currently in a MML HST between Nottingham and Leicester which will get me 30 miles and over 100 MPH.
I may be wrong, but I don't think you have to walk at all for the collectables one. It says to collect 6 collectables and walk 100 miles as the joke, which I assumed they multiplied by 100. So I spawned on foot, collected what I thought was 6 collectables with walking what I assumed was over a mile, and went back to the menu to see progress at 5 out of 6. (I guess I can't count to 6 ). Going back in and collecting one collectable, (with the only walking being from spawn to the collectable), it completed To me at least, it seems it's literally just "collect six collectables total" with the walking itself being the april fools, as opposed to the distance
