I’d like to see an improvement to the way the game scores your performance. I wish there was more emphasis on actually perfecting the craft of driving a train (albeit in simulation world).
Some suggestions on how it could evolve into a more advanced system with focus on mastery rather than ticking off objectives. I appreciate that this would not be everyone’s style of gameplay so you could have two modes of play.

    Passenger Comfort Rating
    1. Smooth Acceleration / breaking - higher score
    2. Harsh acceleration / breaking - lower score
    3. Keeping consistent speeds for passenger comfort
    4. Improvements to station stop accuracy scoring / penalties for over running platforms
    5. Door handling / closing scoring / avoiding door delays
    6. Link in how random faults are handled and solved
    Rewarding Realistic and Efficient Driving
    1. Coasting where appropriate
    2. Minimal unnecessary breaking
    3. Avoiding excessive throttle use
    4. Dynamic scoring based on weather conditions (rain / snow give higher points than a clear day for example)
    5. Avoiding wheel slips / spins
Route Knowledge Bonus - encourage route knowledge and mastery
    1. Anticipating speed changes before signage
    2. Knowledge of gradients

pfff if the ai passengers don't like me going full power immediately or max braking at the last second they can get off of my train:cool:

(I don't actually full power immediately, not all the time, anyway and try to avoid last minute max brakes, but sometimes misjudge braking distance so...:|)

This is one of the aspects I quite enjoy in OMSI 2. The passengers greeting you on boarding or grumbling if the bus is late plus derisory comments if you drive poorly. If you’re really bad they all press the bell and get off at the next stop. Of course, there are very few real life situations where rail passengers interact so closely with the train driver and on a loco hauled train you are completely remote even from muttered comments behind the cab door. And the only place I’ve ever been where drivers collect the fares and check tickets is on remote rural lines in Sweden - either on the old Helga Y7 railcars or the newer Fiat Y1’s which replaced them.

not a bad idea, but as for route knowledge... we dont yet have a system in the game like real drivers do - Ebula and the like... yes, they have the knowledge, but also detailed plan of the route and service with speed changes and everything... right now, on German lines it is easy cos you have advanced signs of speed changes where speed goes lower, but on UK and many US lines you dont

as for braking or throttle, thats very subjective, like IRL drivers have different styles even within boundaries of training and rules... like on US trains, some drivers slam it into N8 and let the loco handle the forces, some start with N3-4 and work their way up etc

where I agree to changes to pts system:
    1) if you brake unnecessarily hard, like you momentarily lose focus, find out like omg I am about to stop at a station and slam full force brakes... and such situations where the hard braking is a result of losing focus
    2) if you overshoot platform - tho in this case devs would have to make a better job setting up correct stopping markers, which isnt always the case

and a couple others which I forgot about :D ... anyway, for proper driving style, it would be nice if someone did a video or a guide on real-life techniques and rules, otherwise you cant blame players for not adhering

also, Ebula and similar systems is a necessary tool not only for HUDless but for anticipating stuff (like, very few ppl would bother running a route and marking on a paper or sth every single detail needed for route knowledge)

aka pts system shouldnt punish players for not knowing or doing sth that they have very little or no control/accessible knowledge about
