Creation Sharing Doncaster To Sheffield + Industrial Yards [ Alpha Release ]

So counted the services today and I'm at 715 Driveable Services and 492 AI Services.
I could be off a few numbers so over 700+ Driveable and 400+ AI Services.
Not counting the supertrams services.

This is subject to change with more as I work on it more.

 

Static Wagon layering and setting up, decided to split the layers up to allow a bit less requiring lots of DLC.
Though currently a lot of DLCs are still required due to how the project is setup, looking at ways to ease it up.

 

Just finished clearing up errors to do some cooking tests. And my plugins now cook correctly.
Station announcements have been tested and partially work still need to fill in and create wavs and soundmaps.
More timetable tweaks and adjustments to get trains to function correctly and arrive on time.

Will need to resim the timetable due to formation/rvd changes.

And sneak peek of a freightliner class 66 passing by.

 

Currently working to fix the timetable times due to late service arrivals and stuff along those lines.

Supertram Yellow Line is now now completed timetable wise as well as Supertram Parkgate Route.
Just fixing some more time related issues and I'll be working on static locos and wagons.

Will work on one more of the supertram routes so trams pass by sheffield station.

 

We are all watching how this project comes closer and closer to life. It is a lot of tough work.
I truly believe in you! Keep it up! Do you think you would be able to arrange this route with DTG to present with TSW7 already?

 

Would love to but right now its a hobby project, would love to have access to the inhouse editor but personally I don't have the finances to do that.

Highly doubt it'll even be close to finish for TSW7.

You don't need finances you just have to pitch them the idea and get them to accept the project.

Then you can carry on at the same pace as you are now. There is no pressure from them to finish before you're ready to.

I’m fine as i am right now thanks anyway.

 

Back working on the route and found a problem with Mexborough station that needed redoing the meshes.

Also working on soundmaps for announcements.
Main Soundmap for stations is sorted just need to work on the onboard soundmap and then work on adjusting the source files to have speaker effects on them.

 

Still going through timetable issues and setting up preventative measures to stop certain outcomes.
Currently thinking and planning on the first alpha release once I've got around to sorting the station platform and pathway meshes out and making sure all passenger traffic is working on said stations.

So regarding the early alpha, I'll be probably doing some more block outs of buildings and stuff before release, just feel it would be a bit boring with nothing to see.

 

Was able to get references to finally set up these signals.
Wondering around York trying my best to get photos of these two, you're able to see the back of these signals from the train coming in from Doncaster to York.
The left one can be seen from the front from the road next to it but the right one is lower than the wall so had to figure out by the shape of signal from the back.

 

Update regarding the timetable, i completely forgot to add East Midlands Train services currently simulating the current timetable so i can have an easier time placing the missing EM train services in.

 

Just a quick update to say the timetable is getting more complete with all services recieving description and map points for the map widget which will be made later on.

Currently fixing up service time issues and cleanup.

Update: Reworking some the freight services as I've recently been able to access old 2024 timetables.

 

So timetable is getting a freight rework as recently was able to access the new subscription section of realtime trains and is able to access old timetables so I'm removing and adding services that'll require some new simulations to figure times out.

Updated all track markings to be cosistant, required a rework of timetable to prevent issues.

 

713 Services my god have I been working on this for long time.
So currently I'm checking services and fixing certain issue, currently trying to fix a certain service being troublesome.

 

Still working on timetable adding extra services that runs on certain sections of the system.
Needs a lot of work still, will keep updated on progress.

 

Timetable work is coming along well, added a few more services related to the freight side of things mostly missed few services that used the doncaster bypass and a few around drax and selby area.

Also did a blockout of the cable trunking with variations of 6,9,12 inch versions.


Also added the blockout for catchpits.

Gonna be slowing down for a bit had a bit of mental health related issue that I need to take care of.

Also had a nasty pc virus that hacked my accounts so last few days have been stressful, but luckily nothing has been lost and none of my accounts are lost.

I messed up and clicked a link by accident it affected a lot of stuff so had to change all my passwords and make sure all accounts had been logged out everywhere.

Token and cookie hack by the looks of things.

 

Taking things a bit slowly to get my mood up a bit, timetable is pretty much complete in terms of services and times.

Cabling Trunking and Catchpit placement takes some time to get right, i have a few different version of the cabletrunk blocked out now.

Timetable just needs simulating so I can test more stuff.

 

Moddelled out the orange cable trunking that is under some tracks.
Currently dev textured until I get around to texturing properly.

 

So recently got my hands on some more indepth material from a dev that has allowed better performance and better paint layer control.
Unfortunately this means having to repaint the entire map again.

Currently working on repainting the landscape, got a working timetable widget in progress, and working on some material work.
Timetable is mostly complete but needs some tweeking and testing a bit more.

Just thinking on the platforms and stations blockouts atm and laying them out better.
Doncaster station will be rebuilt as the current one doesn't work very well with my track layout and some of the detailing is missing or incorrect in some places.

 

Progress on some foliage painting, landscape painting too.

First look at one of the custom liveries Lumo 803 (GWR 802), this will involve extracting the original models and modifying the mesh to remove decals and making custom details.

Currently working on the GWR 150 Skeleton Mesh and moved some UVs around and removed the GWR Decal branding.

Nearly completed the map will need a lot of testing to make sure lines show properly once I get to that section.

Also clean look at the background map.

 

So the timetable widget map is getting a lot of tweaking and simplfying due to the limitation of the way it works.

 

I have to ask - why a schematic map instead of a geographic one?

 

Thank you for sharing a screenshot from the map widget. I need help with that to. Did you find a example or a tutorial about it? Is there any programming needed to make it work?

 

I didn't really like the geographic design as you get that already with pressing 9 in game, I wanted to go with a more railway map oriented look to the timetable widget.

 

So due to public editor not being really fleshed out in terms of everything being in there, when I get time I'll setup a template version as the options to make them properly in the current editor is not possible.

 

Rotherham Station updated block out still need to figure out a few things for this station.

 

Fun fact: Rotherham Central is the only railway station in the UK where heavy rail and tram‑train services share the same track, with both the National Rail platform and the Tram‑Train stop sitting side‑by‑side on the same alignment.

Update 26/04/2026:

Did a little work on the sheffield viaduct.

 

Working on the approach to sheffield, taken a while to figure a good way to model this area.

 

So made adjustments to timetable again mainly freight related to allow the trains to switch EOTD correctly. This has moved some services to Part 1, 2 and 3.

Added the windturbines that can be seen from adwick, bolton-upon-dearne and goldthorpe.
Added more blockouts of buildings in Doncaster West Yard and started working on sheffield station overpass and assosiated stairs including repathing and moving spawn and wait areas.

Sheffield Tunnels/Bridges approach is still a pain to work on.
Also added a ton of foliage along the route, still a long way off but its a good start.

Update: Removed the turbines due to them not being easily visible from the tracks.

 

Will be going through my main timetable again to figure out an issue with hanging at instructions, I'm unsure whats causing the issue.
Usually an instruction clearing is taking 2-4 seconds to update.

 

So a major restructing of the timetable is in progress due to performance issues, I've currently removed the tram layer.

Due to limitations of the current system and complexity of my route the timetable may have to be scaled back a little.

Update: Trams will be reintroduced at a later date but right now I'd like to get the performance in a good state, the hanging is common on most routes with a lot of services but my route is extremely complex and the amount of services are causing hangs on instruction completions that can last up to 2 seconds.

This can be jarring when speeding through the route, I'm actively trying my best to impove on this.

Update: 13/05/26
Changed the tram section of the route into a yard with yard signals instead and improved simulation times and smoothness, will be conituning to testing and adjusting.

 

So upon further testing there's not much I can do in terms of the hanging, performance wise the route runs very well.

 

Will be taking some time off from working on the route, just need to take a break.

 

So I've done a bit of testing and found that the main map/route and the timetable with one service can operate fine with only one requirement being ECML.

So my formations are causing a bit of an issue when paired with different DLC wagons.
This just related to DLC requirements and I'll see if I can reduce these issues. It looks like its just related to freight trains.
