I’ve had this thought since I saw that a Nintendo Switch 1 Version of Wonders of Sodor is planned, and it is a very interesting thing to ponder. With how how powerful the Switch 2 is proving to be for a handheld console with games like FFVII Remake and RE9 it’s made me think that it could be possible to see a Switch 2 version of Train Sim World. Personally this is something I’d love to see as I’d live to have the ability to drive routes such as SEHS, MVL and WCMLS in the go no matter where in the world I am and without having to worry about having a internet connection like I do using the PS Portal. What do other peeps think? Or am I the only one here who owns a Switch 2?
The Switch 2 has 12 GB of memory. PS and Xbox are suffering with 16, so I dont think DTG will get into the trouble of making a 12GB version for the Switch 2.
Why not? They already make a Series S 10GB version. Just port that over. But probably not as WOS is being outsourced to be ported to Switch. And I doubt they would want the extra costs associated with that at the present time for TSW. Mattel probably forced their hand to have it on the Switch as well.
I figured that there’s a chance Mattel pushed for a Switch port of WOS, tbh I’m fully aware how wishful my thinking is that we’ll get a Switch 2 version of the TSW series but hopefully one day it might happen
Look at it from this point of view. Think of the PS4 version, now imagine it running in a worse state than that. Older routes may handle the Switch 2’s capabilities, but not newer routes. There’s a reason they advertise new routes as 9th generation only.
Whilst the Switch 2 is considered part of the 9th Gen, I do see your point as it’s estimated to be as powerful as a PS4 Pro when in docked mode which is a console that is struggling to run TSW as it is now. Plus, upon reflection looking at the games I used as examples, two of them had a lot of optimisation work done in order for them to run as smoothly as they do on the console
Not that it is impossible to do. I just think releasing and maintaining another memory constrained version of the game takes a lot of time and I dont think DTG will go in that direction. Looks to me they are going in the opposite one. Keep in mind that porting the game to another console isnt as easy as just pressing a button. As you can see, PS5 and Xbox have their own ports and each of them has specific problems that are not always shared with the other one. A port to Switch 2 wouldnt be any different.
It could be possible, but don't forget TSW is built on X86/X64 architecture, switch is ARM based and i don't think there is a UE4 ARM based engine (JUST TO CLARIFY THIS IS NOT SAYING IT DOESN'T EXIST JUST WHAT I KNOW, as i apparently now need to premise that statement, so some folks don't have a tantrum), there is for UE5, and as previously mentioned the switch 2 isn't powerful enough, GPU maybe but CPU and RAM is very lacking compared to a console, and those are already struggling. SO basically, possible i would say yes (with caveats) feasible no not really, a lot of dev work including possible re-write of game engine all for a few more players.
You do not know much on UE4 then, it has had Switch support almost as long as TSW has been around. Not only do multiple third-parties use it, several of Nintendo's own games run on Unreal Engine 4. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoshi's_Crafted_World https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princess_Peach:_Showtime! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pikmin_4 Also it has support for smartphone OS' also, which pretty much all use ARM I believe. One of the big selling points for UE is the fact it scales well, it's easy to make cross platform titles for that reason. TSW would be a struggle to port, but it would entirely be down to DTG's poor optimization and tech debt. Switch 2 honestly should be very doable for a game made with Series S as the minimum spec, the main issue is that DTG just suck at making console games.
Stop asking them to create for new platforms, they can just about develop software that works on Gen9 consoles....
