Hi Phil, fairly certain that all the loco swaps happened at Preston, I travelled on the afternoon L’pool portion a few times (often Class 45 hauled) it accessed the Chat Moss line via Golbourne Jct. & Newton-le-Willows Jct.
Yeah I'm certain that they were done at Preston too though I am sure there was one random one of an evening (so rules out 1M22) which was done at Wigan with it being routed via St Helens Central (or Shaw Street back then) and most likely a route knowledge retainer My mate is somewhat indisposed (he's in the pub) so can't get a proper answer out of him :/
Indeed, he was a big 40 lad so he'd recite the workings off easily. I'll try and find out tomorrow. In the meantime I have found someone's spotting logbook for 1980 with the following; 87023 Preston to Wigan NW, 1M29 47437 Wigan NW to Liverpool Lime Street, 1M29 They had posted it on Railforums https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/back-in-the-day.183327/page-43 1980 is a bit before my time so I'm not much use there myself :/
there are a few loco swaps on shap route with the 47, then route hop and run them though to blackpool on BPO.
This is really interesting! I was a bit young back then and sadly my old man is no longer around as he'd have known for definite. But back in the day there was an Edinburgh/Glasgow cross country service to Liverpool that would be diesel-hauled between Wigan & Lime Street. There were class 40s often on the Lime Street runs as I remember them based at Springs Branch. Now I may be mis-remembering or merging multiple memories, but there definitely were loco changes at Wigan back then. Be interesting to see if there's any in JT's timetable!
Still unable to get gold in the "put a gronk on it" scenario on Xbox Series X. I dropped 1 point from a stop marker and was still over 1000 AP short. No real places to run back and forwards. A fix for this would be great so I can gold my BPO journey Someone else on the forum said they had gold for it, but I can't see where I'm going wrong to miss that many action points?
I physically can't do anything else to get points is my issue. I missed out on 1 point for a stop. There must be some discrepancy somewhere I did it when it first came out and tried it again once I read your post before. There's no safety systems in the gronk or anything to turn on so I'm stumped with this one.
Safety systems are worth +65 per quarter mile. But seeing has this doesn't have safety system it doesn't matter you should be getting 65 points. I done it when it first come out but since then its had some patches. So I would guess that somewhere along the long the changed the scoring points.
That's what I meant. 30 points for distance + 35 points for safety systems. That's 65 points for every quarter mile. The results table says that no points were awarded for security systems. However, if they were awarded, it would only be 158 points given the distance traveled.
Sorry i miss understood you yes you are right still wouldn't be enough points. Don't why he cant get gold is anyone else having problems getting gold.
You can't get gold other than with some crazy back and forth methods. There are a few useful reddit threads about this if you search. https://www.reddit.com/r/trainsimworld/comments/1fq1iuf/bpb_scenario_put_a_gronk_on_it_how_to_get/ *added a link. The OP describes a method a few posts down. Whether anyone can really be bothered with all that faf though, I will leave up to you!!
(Apologies if this has already been highlighted). Does anyone else find if they select the Mk1 Parcel Express or Newspaper variants in the Formation Designer they are completely uncompatable with any other rolling stock? ie there is nothing available to be selected on selecting Add official. Also if something that should be compatable is selected before then none of the Parcel Express or Newspaper variants appear for selection. (This is on PlayStation 5.)
There's no way to select between the coupling type in Formation Designer; it's set automatically. It's as if these Mark 1s are tagged in such a way that makes them incompatible with everything - including each other.
Is Blackpool branches, gonna get an timetable update? For the other ai like the 86 and 87 for Preston
It's actually in internal testing now but we haven't had that much chance to test it as of yet as we've been busy with Crewe - Preston.
And even then when it passes internal testing probably DTG will inexplicably sit on it for months on end
So it likely won't be in for when Crewe - Preston releases but we're aiming on getting the newer announcement system on the 142.
That's good news, Ben, I've only been playing my own custom scenarios on Blackpool Branches recently because I can have electrics in them. Can't wait to use the proper timetable again.
I do hope the new timetable gets added as a selectable variant and doesn’t replace the original one. That one is very well-rounded and doesn’t require all that much extra content to achieve a somewhat busy rail scene. Would be very unfortunate to now need like 100€ of extra DLC just to restore the AI “busy-ness” back to its original state. Simply having two variants would be the best of both worlds. Only have Blackpool Branches? Play the original timetable. Got some of the extra DLCs from the era? The new timetable might give you an even better experience.
I only found out about it working on NTP when I wrote a Pacer scenario a couple of years ago. https://creatorsclub.dovetailgames.com/creations/160397
So, just got the new timetable, fantastic, had a bit of fun shunting electric locos around Preston etc, BUT, the BBA and HEA from Tees Valley won't layer in, they are present and layered on the "old" timetable but on the update are greyed out and marked as not owned. This seems a bit odd. Also, no work for the Class 31, 20 or 40 on the new timetable?
I like I'm sure many others have today took the new timetable for a spin and ran a pacer up from Blackpool North towards Preston. My first impressions are the foliage looks so much better now and seeing the changes in the fields is really great! Its nice seeing the stock in different places too, upon arriving at Preston I was just in time to seen an 87 back onto it's train and the Euston 87 on the mk3s depart. I noticed a few small things, as pointed out elsewhere 80% of the traffic on the road seems to be buses? The Pacer doors opened before I'd fully stopped, I Also saw the Cream and brown pacer livery at BPN but I'm not sure if that is supposed to spawn on timetable or not? Otherwise it's a shame there is no 31, 45 or 40 in the new timetable but hopefully that can be rectified. As otherwise I would've run the 31 to Preston.
PS5 - Far, far, far too many buses on the roads. It’s just a parade of buses on every road. Sometimes they just pop in right in front of you (that’s likely unavoidable, happens on most routes) but there should not be a convoy of buses in each direction with just the odd car in between. It’s just so unrealistic. I was playing a steam service on the new timetable to have a look at the changes. I can’t say I noticed anything else because I was so distracted by the buses!
The surprise remaster is very nice but have to note and agree with some of the above... Lighting now seems over bright and washed out. Some of the bridges seem to have lost their reverb. New buses - great but too many and the ones in Blackpool were speeding around at 50 MPH it seemed. Plus as noted elsewhere, Summer Saturday only/relief/excursion services should not be running with Mark 2 aircon stock. Most of these would be Mark Ones, or at best non aircon Mark 2's.
Despite a deluge of MK 2Fs on Blackpool services, buses and 47s galore, and a couple of other things, I am enjoying the new timetable a lot. After taking a brief look at some of the other route updates, I ended up spending most of the evening on Blackpool Branches, it almost feels like a new route with the electrics added in. I knew when they were finally added, I'd go back to it and I have. As for this morning... I'm back on Blackpool Branches...
Loving the electrics at Preston now, and the station announcements - even if they’re modern-style robotic instead of the bored local, for me they bring the station to life. Nice to see the aircon stock at Blackpool at last, but it was weird that there were NO 2As there at all. Mebbe it was the time of day, I’ll be playing some more today and keep an eye on it. Coming out of Poulton though that B road that runs perpendicular to the track was rammed with buses Do we have a new set of namers in the game now, too? Some new ones cropping up? (or mebbe I just never noticed them before)
Odd one this morning, never seen it before in TSW and never saw it in real life. Saw a Mk3 set in Preston station, was a 47 on other end. No Blue-Grey BG, but the dark blue Newspaper livery Mk1. Did that ever happen in real life, newspaper van on the back of a Mk3 consist? My memory says no, but I am happy to be corrected.
It seems unlikely The Mark 3 day sets were largely fixed formation and if there was an issue with the BG on depot before entering service, it would be swapped out like for like with a spare vehicle. So another bit of randomness that needs reigning in slightly.
Announcements was a right mix bag in BR days. Sometimes very nasal sounding and quite easy to understand. Also sometimes high speed in a local dialect. Also the volume used to ramp up for a platform change or similar (which we dont have in TSW)
Off topic, but I so miss the tones you'd get at Glasgow Central before any announcements and a thick Glaswegian accent delivering them! When I was doing a route back in the days of MSTS that featured Glasgow Central I managed to rip and mix some audio of indecipherable announcements and general station audio, but due to the limits of MSTS I couldn't add it in due to memory issues it caused.
I fell off the TSW train for a while and now finally got back on it with TSW6, played some Blackpool Branches for the first time and on that journey, as soon as I hit class 47 services it seemed weird, something wrong with the safety systems. Turns out this issue has been there since 2024 at least. I'm reading from this forum that people are really happy with all kinds of improvements this route has gotten, maybe I'm alone in caring about points or platinums, but why put this scoring system in the game at all if it's broken enough that you can't "complete" some routes.
The DSD is isolated on the 47 as there is a TSW Core Issue (surprise, surprise) but the AWS works as it should, have you looked at the back wall of the cab and flipped both the AWS isolation switch and the "Change End" switch to on?
Thank you Phil47569, it seems the fault was entirely my own. It seems a simple ctrl+enter and shift+enter is not enough, one has to flip those switches manually. Finally found that necessary switch in that right back corner.
