Look what I found on YT yesterday. When I first saw this video I thought this must be one of these Japanese Train Sims where a video of the Scenery is played. Until there was an outside camera which is impossible with that kind of game. Really outstanding graphics !

And no, I will not abandon TSW for this of course, but I think it is a welcome addition to the Train Simulation genre!

    What do you think ?

Yeah I've had my eye on this for a few weeks now. It's made by a solo dev. Definitely picking it up when it releases to early access in a couple weeks. I'm really looking forward to the Tadami line, so this will be a nice treat in the meantime.

Being discussed with some excitement in the OT section. All I can say is, if this lives up to expectations, Tadami doesn’t stand a bean if it even ever emerges. When I first saw the images I honestly thought it was an Ongakukan style game where you drive the video clip. But apparently not, this is a fully graphically realised game and it knocks anything we’ve seen so far in TSW into a far away corner.

Of course there are caveats… How’s it going to run on minimum or slightly below specs. We’ve been bitten before by Japanese early access games, notably Train Crew and Hakodate Tram Sim where further development has stalled. Does it have a save game feature, particularly for when the route(s) get longer? But basically unless there are any adverse reports between now and 25th May, looking like a Day One purchase for me.

    Wake up, DTG!

Having seen a decent amount of development footage from this game i can say that one thing i noticed is that the stunning visuals were (during development) limited to trackside, once you moved a couple of blocks away there was nothing. Later shots seem to show differently, but i wonder if trackside high res has been balanced with out of view as low res/nothing. I know the game has been in development for over 4 years at this stage. I think if your not someone who gets the freecam out to point out a missing tree 2 miles away out of the immediate player area this game has huge potential, much moreso than the video playback games that seem to exist for JR routes etc.

Graphics are very impressive. Gameplay looks like a ton of fun too. The sounds are amazing. This has a ton of potential. Could be something big if it gets supported with DLC. There’s only one thing I couldn’t help but notice and that was the raindrops on the windows. It looks a bit odd. It’s like the raindrops just vanish and re appear rather than trickle down the window. Hopefully it gets an improvement but everything else is really impressive.

The Developer also recently said this:

"Freight and also steam locomotive are within the realm of possibility and could potentially be realized in the future. I have some 3d model already prepared. However, that will depend on the request and priorities of the community since it's early access."

I don't do "foreign" railways but I plan on getting this and spending a lot of time on it : )

If they could introduce UK routes and trains it'd be a TSW & TSC killer : o

You should see an embedded YT link to the video.

If not just search YT for Running Train to view it.

Here is the link to the game on Steam...

Made by one guy in Unreal Engine.

Proof that maybe it isn't just lacklustre management plaguing TSW.

UE5 don’t forget. If DTG pull their socks up the next generation of TSW could be on a par with this but I highly doubt it as they do the bare minimum mostly.

UE5 comes with a mix of both generational improvements like a totally different lighting system that means light baking is no longer needed, a very time consuming workload in UE 4.26, and other graphical upgrades. It does however still struggle as an engine for fast moving simulation games that can still struggle with asset streaming and player relocation which causes micro stutters. The other issue is if you use UE5 to increase texture resolution as part of an overall graphical upgrade you quickly use up texture budgets on consoles and blurry textures become even worse than the current UE 4.26 implementation.

Oh I know all about Lumen, Nanite & Nanite Foliage etc but my point was more that even with any shortcomings in UE5 DTG will still somehow make a mess of it.
With regards to the texture ‘budgets’ I knew back when console editions were announced that the game would suffer on PC even though DTG said it wouldn’t. Unified memory on Xbox is a particular bone of contention with me…the amount of memory may have been sufficient for games when the console released but today its proving a problem.
Anyway, we’ll see what truly can be done in UE5 & TSW in the not too distant future!

Can only echo the comments really and I too thought when I first watched this that it's was just another of those games that used a real cab ride video - really does show what can be achieved with UE5 and it will feel a little bit of a backward step going back to driving Train Sim World - appreciate that for a solo developer, he's had a few years to get this to this stage and not had the time pressures, but I absolutely love the fact that even in this early release product, you have a variety of different units to drive and covering both diesel and electric. Hopefully passengers will be added in the future and if we could get this where they behave in a normal way and even get on a train and actually move to the seat (without disappearing and reappearing) and sit down, would be good (World of Subways 3 did it in 2011) - anyway, very excited for this and agree with the hope that eventually TSW will take plunge and agree with Es4t that you have a feeling that DTG might not quite it right !!

    First thing.
To take the plunge, you have to accept that the collection needs to be started from scratch.
Second, I'm hoping something truly new will be announced this year.
    Not released, announced.
The graphics for TSW are getting a bit dated.
Let's say it's fine for a cartoony game like Sodor...
As I've said over and over again, something new doesn't mean the instant death of TSW.
Anyone who wants to continue can do so, just like they did with TSC.
I, as in my real life, look forward.

I reject that assumption, and the communities belief in that being the case is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I was excited but it quickly dawned on me after watching the vids far too many times.

There are NO passengers whatsoever. none. The whole thing looks worse than any ghost town station on TSW.

The route is sort of fictional - its based on a rail line that closed in 1987 and is now run by a residents association. The train operators are fictional, with fictional, liveries. Realisms for train nerds isnt going to be here.

The weather only has two seasons. It seems really rigid in this way.

You cant leave the cab or walk around at all, which is something I love from TSW and would be a deal breaker for me.

The graphics are not dramatically different to TSW on a PC. A step up? yes. but not a game changing difference, especially compared to Medway Valley.

It looks like a lovely Unreal Engine 5 demo (like Metro Rivals), really lovely but with no real substance at all. I think if DTG released this, with it limits (no passengers, no roaming etc et) people would kick off.

Did you understand that this is "early access game" (with all that that entails, for better or worse)?

    I did indeed.
but unlike 99% of other EA games, there isnt a road map explaining what features will be introduced.
Thats always a concerning sign, especially from a solo dev with no online presence of any content created before. We've all been stung before and its good if we take a look at whats realistically being offered other than shinier graphics.

The exact same thing happened to Train Planet for folks that remember.

At the end of the day, if this comes in at something like £15.99 for the UK I can live with no passengers, for now. No worse than when I fired up Open Rails the other day to revisit the old MSTS North Wales Coast route.

Train Planet was "long term postponed" by its main development partner.
There are many reasons why this might have happened, the same as Metro Rivals.

Definitely looking good. Traction sounds maybe need some work, but then maybe that’s how the real thing is. The track audio and reverb is absolutely awesome though. Gives the lie to DTG’s puny efforts and flat sound fields in TSW. I could feel every bang and jolt and the unit even sounded as if it had wheelflats!

The 2 things that stand out to me are fictional line and only 40km's

It will be pass. At least until there is over 150kms in track.

I'm sure the route will get extended. But consider this, you're paying probably £15.99 or $19.99 for a 40km route and several trains. That's still far cheaper than DTG's usual price for a similar size DLC. And getting graphics that make TSW look like a cartoon.

Bruh, it's an early access title. Of course it is missing things. I have been following the development of it for 2 years now and I can assure you that this guy knows what he is doing.

Also I wouldn't say he has no presence from before this. He was making pretty good quality Trainz content for several years before this, if I remember correctly.

Also if you honestly think TSW comes close to this graphics wise, then you really need to get your eyes checked.
