Latest Tsc Update - System Space Required 6gb!?

Hi Folks
Today my Steam account has pushed a TSC Update for Train Simulator Classic requiring 6GB of memory space. Does anyone know exactly why/how so much fresh hard drive space is being taken please? Some of us are running very close to maximum memory and being forced to manually copy assets between C: drive and archive so another big memory grab is extremely unwelcome.

Is there a log of the update contents anywhere that we can check in advance?

 

I have had no update. Presumably then it's for DLC, not core.

 

If you are that close to your storage limit, i strongly advise you to upgrade your storage. Running that close to full is not really good for the hd/ssd

 

Thanks, yes I’m aware. Unfortunately will require a new motherboard in my case so not an easy option.

Why would you need a new mother board to add memory?

 

I have a 500GB SSD and a 1TB optical storage drive plugged into a Dell motherboard - it’s essentially a modified Aurora R7 Alienware machine. The engineer I bought it off I believe said it was running at pretty much max capability - no free SSD slots and at the limit of the power supply without adding full water cooling etc? (I’m certainly no expert so if anyone knows otherwise, advice would be appreciated.)

 

Not to be too nosy but what on Earth do you have on your computer taking up 1 tb of memory?

I think you are confusing people by using the term memory instead of storage.
The specs for the Aurora R7 shows it has 2 SATA ports so you could add a SATA SSD or a HDD. If you wanted another NVME in your
system there are PCIe to NVME adaptors available. The Aurora R7 specs say that it is supplied with a 850 Watt power supply which is
more than sufficient for more storage. The problem with products from Dell or HP is they normally come with proprietary motherboards
which make upgrading difficult. The only drawback to upgrading your storage at this time is the cost, as prices are ridiculous.

 

My TSC installation is roughly 440GB, which is most of the SSD drive. I also play Cities:Skylines which essentially fills the rest of it.
The 1TB HDD storage drive is about 40% full, mostly photos, a full TSC backup plus a myriad of installers and downloaded files, including pretty much the entire Armstrong Powerhouse catalogue. I’ve also got a pretty extensive Flight Sim collection although it’s archived currently, plus Total War, Stellaris, EVEnline…

Thank you for this advice - I may enquire whether a further SSD is an option then as a dedicated TSC drive. I suspect the loading times will be deathly slow if my TSC install was moved to the HDD?

 

You should have a spare SATA connection on your motherboard which you could connect a 2.5 inch SSD which should be fast
enough for TSC, a mechanical HDD would be too slow. You should check if you have a spare power connector first.
