I mean I'm not buying it as a valid excuse, get AC or something.

That said - it's currently that hot in my man cave that I'm sat in just my kecks, with the fans on full blast and the rig isn't even doing anything strenuous yet so it's actually putting out cooler air than what's going in. I don't think the DTG guys and gals are up for doing a livestream in their underwear and that is understandable. But yeah, get some AC (my excuse is that I've not finished building my room up yet).

Ah well, it was going to be a crock anyway whatever it was, probably more Thomas rubbish.

How can you possibly know what it would have been?

I haven't even turned my computer on to do any gaming as it's been that hot. Not everyone has the space for an air conditioning unit.

Don't bring Quantum Field Theory in to it!
That said, it is easier to navigate than this forum.

I love how people are continuing to complain about DTG "cancelling due to the heat", despite absolutely zero evidence of that being the case and my post further up pointing out that DTG has A/C and a large office space people can work in. If anything, they may have taken the decision to push it back based on the assumption that not many people would be watching because they'd be outside in the cooler evening air / shopping for ice cream / chilling at the pub (delete according to preference)

It was just over 35° today where I am (France) and I was in meetings and video calls all day in the office. The only heat-related discomfort I encountered was going out to get lunch. Businesses with A/C don't shut down when the outside temperature hits 29°.

At this point I would appreciate some honest and open communication, but I don't expect it. It is a computer game, not an essential service that they provide after all. It just seems the confidence levels are low with what they are planning to put out across the board whether it is an announced DLC, an update or huge fix or something new and radical.

Why mystery and then cancel? They could've done anything and we'd be none the wiser.

I think the announcement could've been along the lines of

'We've got something we're hoping is going to be ready, but it's a bank holiday just in the UK so it's a bit trickier to schedule a livestream. We know we said we'd have something by now and we haven't shared any news for a while and it is fairly close, but it might not be ready. We'll try for a livestream Thursday next week, but we'll cancel 24 hours out if we're not ready'.

Take most of the mystery out of it. It isn't the time to be building hype.

as I said before, the "mystery" was clearly the trent valley preview livestream which they planned to release probably the week of the 18th or maybe even the week of the 11th (the date that was published the steam page for trent valley)
but apparently, something is going very wrong with this DLC

Arguing whether the heat has anything to do with it is scraping the barrel...

It's as simple as this for me... It been cancelled. It is a bit of a frustration, but it is not the end of the world. Whether it is due to heat, unforseen circumstances, or any other reason I just accept it and move on now. DTG are human as are the Devs and things happen. You can't base your entire life around these things. I love the streams and previews, but they are not the centre of my world so when these things happen I just think, "a bit frustrating but I'll watch it another time".

Was I looking forward to it? Yes. Was I curious what it was? Also yes. But am I going to get annoyed with DTG or any type of Devs about it? Definitely not. No promises were made, and I'm still none the wiser what was going to be streamed. Add to that as I've already mentioned, they are all human and these things happen.

As others have said, in this heat I'm not particularly one for playing games as my Scottish genetics don't agree with the 35° weather that we had in London and I've been sweating like a glass blowers axxx so gaming is the least of my worries at the moment.

I have half a dozen Guinea Pigs and a lovely old hen called Hilda to look after and keep me focused and they are my priorities at the moment and to get them through the heatwave as it effects them.

None the less, hopefully the stream will be given a new date within the next 7 days. And on the subject of that, it could well be the North London Line extension!

When was the last time you ever saw a stream take place from that cavernous office space?

They have always been from home.

Agree with the sentiments that it was most likely Trent Valley and it's not worth getting hot under the collar for (pun intended).

I am looking forward to announcements of fixes and the release of DLC, but I have adopted a wait and see approach. Wait and see if it works and is my cup of tea. Wait and see what others reckon. And, most importantly, wait and see if it actually happens.

Hype built up, again, by this community, no one else.

With the same people waiting to jump in with their conspiracy theories when something "goes wrong".

I wouldn't be surprised if DTG aren't laughing at all this, as it was entirely predictable.

I agree entirely. If DTG didn't realise the potential effect on this community of the use of the word 'mystery' with this announcement then that would really be cause for concern. I reckon it was deliberate, but also tongue in cheek and they have probably enjoyed this thread if they are reading it.

Yeah, there are so many whiners that the broadcast was cancelled. It was as if a universal tragedy had occurred and future life was in question.
I would probably laugh at the heat as the reason, but yesterday there was a power outage in my area and I was without electricity or internet for 8 hours. And this showed me that the heat of +32°C without air conditioning, with the whirring of a gasoline generator in the yard, is a real test. I'm used to +21°C at home, but without air conditioning it was +27°C. It's a good thing there was a supply of soft drinks in the refrigerator.

Embarrassingly, they've cancelled the stream. Yeah again. They're about as consistent as (insert TOC here) for last min cancellations

When DTG said that, I don’t think they meant that as an actual excuse, more as a pun/joke about the current UK heatwave

while I have my disagreements with DTG, you gotta admit, it’s been pretty hot!

I’m not saying this as a defence in DTGs name, but just in general, the heat has been pretty intense, due to the UK being an island, the humidity is 10x worse, it makes 25C, feel more like 35

Reading this, there’s a lovely cool breeze currently coming in through the patio doors and that was preceded by a (distant) thunderstorm during the night. Forecast for today is several degrees cooler with cloud later on. Maybe they jumped the gun a bit cancelling the stream, or perhaps they should just have recorded it at 0800 in the morning.

Or maybe they should have looked at the weather forecast before deciding to stage a livestream rather than just a normal press release!

You're missing the point of my post, which is about the fact that the only people who are claiming it was cancelled due to the heat are people on this forum. Nobody at DTG said that.

Did I say I'd seen streams take place in their huge open space where everyone else is trying to code and test? I don't recall saying that. Firstly, they have meeting rooms like everyone other developer with more than five staff. You can see one on their website and that's how my own company does its roadmap and release webinars. Secondly, if heat in DTG staff members' homes really was a concern for their wellbeing and their ability to work, I'm pretty sure DTG would have the presence of mind to allow them to use... the DTG office space. In fact in many companies, outside of major cities requiring an hour of driving or public transport, many people actually return to the office during heatwaves precisely to benefit from the A/C.

But regardless, we now have about two pages of this thread dedicated to moaning about DTG cancelling "due to the heat", despite the fact that this was an unsubstantiated claim made my someone posting a screenshot of Harry basically saying "it's hot today" :|

Shortcut much? If she'd said she was drinking a smoothie would we be claiming the stream was cancelled due to smoothies?

Perhaps we may be overthinking this a bit.

As it was Bank Holiday weekend, followed by half term in some areas, I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of the team had annual leave booked at the same time. Just a hunch, but maybe there wasn’t a proper plan for the stream yet due to skeleton staff, hence the “mystery” wording.

Also with this heat, not exactly ideal conditions for cooking graphics cards just for a live stream lol. Plus due to the point about bank holiday/half term period, engagement for a live stream might’ve been lower than usual anyway, so it may not have been worth running a full stream at that time.

At the end of the day as it’s just a game and there was no official announcement about what it would be, I don’t feel like I’m missing out on much. Most likely they would be better off focusing their efforts on the June roadmap for any proper announcements instead.

That's twice you've said this about Trent Valley. Any evidence to back up this assertion? Note that this cancelled mystery livestream is not evidence, as nobody outside DTG knows what it was going to be.

For me at least its about the complete disarray that the ‘community managers’ seem to be in. The constant announcements and withdrawals just come across as being amateurish. The best option would be to keep quiet and announce a ‘surprise’ stream on the day surely and stop with all the hyperbole!

to be fair on Harry, Alex and Jamie everything they officially put out is signed off by someone else, they create the content and then someone else pulls the strings. same dilemma Matt faces when he talks passionately about the game only to be scuppered by a decision maker above him. the senior leadership team seem to be facing some struggles and unfortunately DTG responds to these by going totally silent and leaving players (and seemingly it's team) in the dark.

Oh the irony of people falling out with each other in this thread.
If you think about it, absolutely nothing has change.
The stream was a mystery last week and we now know that it is still a mystery today. :D

I believe that all that has happened is that the people in charge of delivering the live stream to DTG Towers have got stuck in traffic.

They didnt cancel the stream because of the heat, ok.

Yes agreed I'm here less and less. It's become an echo chamber and a conduit for conspiracy theories.

It's pitiful to watch as it actually used to feel like a community.

No evidence and there never will be. When it's released those that revelled in the misery they seem to enjoy, will stay silent and act like nothing was said in the first place. It happens often. Still they have a little coterie on here to side with

I had a lot of potential disappointments on my bingo card, but "removing content in an attempt to un-gently caress the textures" was not one of them.

Have you ever considered that this may be a good trade-off? Memory is not unlimited, so something has to go. Could well be the right choice.

I would say anyone who liked to drive the Class 86 or 87 on BtC will not consider this a good trade off.

That doesnt make sense at all. A rail tour side quest should never be more important than a well functioning main course. But hey, that's just my opinion I guess.

Maybe DTG need to start marking certain timetable layers as "side quests" so we can tell the difference and know to expect their future removal.

    An appointment was cancelled.
    Okay....
How has anyone upset about it ever functioned in life thus far?
If my dentist cancels/moves an appointment, I don't always demand a full detailed explanation or compensation.
    Life happens.
You just reschedule and move on.
They don't ask ME for a huge drawn out explanation if I have to move my appointment.
People seem to think DTG "owes" them something above and beyond.
If you had been "harmed" then you might have a case, but what is the "harm" you have suffered?
You have to wait one more week to find out what the "secret mystery you didn't know about before" is?
They could just toss it up on the store and say "there it is, buy it if you want."
They don't have to do any "reveal" at all, it's all for free entertainment.
People arguing for not getting something free on schedule seems silly.
