Now that Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal (DIRFT) is represented in Train Sim World, I think it would be the perfect opportunity to introduce both the British Rail Class 68 and the British Rail Class 88.

The Class 68 and Class 88 would bring much-needed variety to modern UK freight operations, which are currently heavily focused on the Class 66. Both locomotives are commonly associated with Direct Rail Services (DRS) and are frequently seen working intermodal traffic, infrastructure trains, and specialist freight services across the UK.

Why they would work well with DIRFT:

    • Realistic intermodal container services to and from DIRFT.
    • DRS freight operations using both locomotive types.
    • Greater locomotive variety on modern UK routes.
    • Additional AI traffic and timetable layers.
    • More operational interest through different locomotive capabilities.
The Class 88 would be particularly interesting because it can operate as both an electric and diesel locomotive. On electrified sections of the West Coast Main Line it could run using overhead power, then switch to diesel when accessing freight terminals and non-electrified sidings. This would introduce a unique gameplay experience not currently available in Train Sim World.

The Class 68 would complement it perfectly, providing a powerful diesel locomotive for freight and occasional passenger duties, while adding another iconic modern UK locomotive to the game.

A combined Class 68 and Class 88 locomotive pack, featuring DRS liveries and services centred around DIRFT and the West Coast Main Line, would be an excellent addition to Train Sim World and would significantly enhance modern freight gameplay.

The 68 should have been included with the Nuclear Freight Pack. Hopefully this will happen in the future. We also need the Class 99 and 93 locos in game, in addition to the 68 and 88.
