Class 40s are (apart from class 55) the best-sounding diesel-electrics (I specify electrics because diesel-hydraulics are also hellfire), and were most certainly not 'withdrawn early' but lasted a good 25 years in BR service. For the purposes of JT's 1986 routes, they could be resurrected as 97405–97408 running engineering, ballast, freight and parcels trains around the north-west.

Agreed. Apart from the bit were you say 55's sounded better lol - each to their own though

Yes that would be to see.

I know I have moaned a bit about the class 40 appearing. I think it is a good compromise having as driveable but not appearing as AI traffic. Although even I didn't mind seeing it on occasions.

I would love a TOD4 route where you could drive them realistically but we don't currently have one.

Ooh that's fightin' talk ;), but I was fortunate enough to have witnessed the twilight years of the Deltics, and their 'platform presence' was something to behold. I do believe JT missed an opportunity opting for 1986, as the 70s would have been so much more interesting in terms of diesel thrash worship.

Actually, Sulzer Type 2’s were the best sounding UK classic diesel, especially a single Class 26 dragging 8 coaches up from Altnabreac to County March Summit!

Hmmm… I took a walk up to the works today and all the 40s were well and truly dead. Sad, but realistic, at least on my PC

Guess a lot of staff were having a crafty ciggy inside the locos so they wouldn't get caught! :D Untitledfefe.jpg

That’s weird - I didn’t notice the exhaust fumes before, went back for another look and they’re all spouting away like you said, but there’s no engine noise :D:D:D Bizarre !

It's amazing how an old sim like MSTS could simulate static stock, but TSW can't.
That said, it's diesels the problem as the 86 and 87 are fine.

Some 47's in the DMD at Crewe which were placed to be static should be fully off, it's more something with the 40 as it's an older addon.

I've done a few services with the updated timetable and my god the changes to the route felt substantial (and much appreciated).

After completing a Euston to Blackpool service on the Crewe to Preston route in the 86/4, the timetable matched up and I was able to change routes and complete the same service on BPO from Preston to Blackpool North in a 47/4. The late evening running and weather really highlighted the update in all its glory and it was absolutely beautiful. Also arriving at Blackpool North and seeing it updated with new stock and announcements and really feeling alive was phenomenal!

A big thank you to JT and appreciation for the new timetable and route update, it is a work of art!

I was talking about diesel locos/dmus, not wagons and the Tees Valley pic proves my point with the 101 engine running.

Just because a service is running later that day, it shouldn't have the engine running all day.

It would be nice if it would sit there silent until a certain period before it's due to come into service and then the engines come on. Make it more realistic.

I know this is a core thing, but it would be nice to see it in a future edition of TSW.

    Final verdict.

There's a few little minor issues like 31s and 45s not available and starting some services in the wrong cab, but I'm absolutely loving the new timetable. That and the odd scenery tweak make it almost feel like a new route.
It was a minor thing for some people before but when I come bouncing into Preston on a Blackpool service it's so nice to some 86s and 87s, as it adds a layer of immersion that had been lacking ever since the 87 was introduced into TSW.
And it's great that the 86/4 and 47/3 have been layered in. I'm using the 47/3 more on here than Preston-Crewe at the moment!

If they can get the 31 and 45 layered in at some point, I can't see myself ever going back to the old timetable, especially as the new one has 65 extra services, albeit a lot of loco swaps (which I enjoy).

Except Class 31s, especially in winter, leave those bad boys ticking over or else you'll not get them going again ;)

In less environmentally aware days it was not unusual for traction units just to be left idling, one of the reasons indeed being you didn’t want to find the loco wouldn’t start 5 minutes before it was due to work a key boat train forward to Holyhead. Not to mention having to diagram the men to do a full prep rather than just bringing back into service.

Thanks for patching it, better too much appearance and on the unrealistic side than no appearance at all.

I hope we dont have to wait another year for the fix like with the 86. Have bought the new route preston crewe today, JTs routes always deliver a fantastic atmosphere.

Been there and done it myself matey, I was only thinking about it the other day actually because it is so hot in my "man cave". I can't remember if it was a 45 or a 47 (I do know it was a Sulzer block) and we had something like a 30 minute layover at Bury so shut it down. Problem was it was such a hot day, the oil was too viscous and we had a nightmare trying to start the damn thing back up again. Had something similar happen with the Hymek a year or so later but Mr Senior Driver didn't want to listen to my warnings... Then again the same pillock once sat there in a Deltic giving it the old "when I was driving these out of Kings Cross..." talks to the owners rep waiting for the desk to come alive after changing ends I eventually leaned over and asked "would you like me to flip the change end switch for you since you forgot?" Happy days :)

So the services i have already done on the old blackpool branches timetable are practically same on new just with more liveliness? And do the scenery upgrades only apply to the newer timetable or old?

Scenery has nothing to do with the timetable, just the route, so upgrades show whatever timetable you play.

OldVern have you still lost tunnel/bridge reverb on this route? I tried it last night and I still have it, though still nothing on Crewe - Preston, so I don't know what's going on there if JT said they've deffo done reverb sounds on that route

I remember an old thread discussing this situation where Matt P. stated AI couldn’t go through the start process and hence had to be spawned in running. This was in the early days, and I could be wrong, but it was a limitation for the timetable services that the AI needed them running.
