Although I’ve only had the game a few months I’ve invested in a number of DLC and not had much to gripe about. Cornwall Penzance RIviera Line GWR GWR Diesel legends Transpennine SEHST EUston- MK Peterboro - Darlington Carlisle - Preston Leics - Nottingham West Somerset So that’s a fair few £. This isn’t about the cost. But I’ve had a couple of game crashes recently. I don’t know if this amount of DLC is pushing the PS5 too far. I do want to get MK-Crewe and Crewe - Preston… these look great routes .. BUT will the PS5 be able to handle all of this without causing problems and further game crashes with all layers enabled? I really don’t want to spend another load of cash and have a game that won’t work without potentially having to remove some other DLC (however you do that and if you can). If the number of layers need to be reduced, which ones to disable and what’s the impact of that on the game/console? It would be really helpful to know just what the limits of the console are or if the amount of dLC is irrelevant as the machine only loads the content it needs for the route being used.
I don't know if having every DLC would cause crashes, but I do know from experience having fewer DLCs installed does improve load times
It will and can run with all DLC installed. But it's possible that you run into layering issues (some trains not showing up where they should). Plus, it takes over 6 minutes to boot up ... So I generally curate the routes I want to drive and keep installed stuff to a minimum.
Can you please explain what you mean by ‘curate your routes’? I’ve never heard that term. TSW is the only game installed on my PS5.
I meant choosing carefully what to install, and what not to install (which DLC's, other games don't matter as long as you have enough space). For example, I'm now mostly playing GWE, ECW, Medway Valley and NY-Stamford. So I choose to install only those, and the most important layers on those routes. This saves boot up time, and prevent mounting issues.
I run a PS5 with many DLCs built up since TSW2020 and I've had very few crashes. I think some good housekeeping helps here. 1) I have an extra Samsung 990 Pro 2TB SSD fitted in the PS5 extra NVMe slot which has all my TSW content on. It has just under 1TB of space left. There's no problem using the PS5's main storage, just make sure it's not too full. 2) I have deleted any PS4 duplicate TSW content that sometimes downloads with the PS5 content (A Sony bug). 3) I regularly refresh the TSW6 licenses as this seems to bring missing content back. It sometimes needs doing twice. Loading times are steady but it gives me chance to grab a beer etc I hope this helps you get the best experience on the PS5. If you need info on how to do the above processes, just let me know.
