    WE DID IT

    GENERAL DISCUSSION IS SAVED!

thank you all, as a forum we united for what we believed was right, massive well done.

without the feedback from the community this wouldn’t have happened.

God damn it Jan, I have just wasted a lot of time saying my goodbyes and thanking people, all now for nothing!

Only joking. Thank you so much for the great and unexpected news. I am really happy and grateful for this decision.

    I am happy now.

Still a shame to see the Off Topic forum go (my favourite) but I can definitely live without it.

As I understand it, the general discussion will now be basically unmoderated?

    Anyway,

Thanks DTG for seeing some sense and listening to us.

Now for a drive to Faversham to celebrate!

Thanks for listening to the community and hopefully we can all work together to make the new arrangements work.

Content strike called off, will be reinstalling my DLC and resuming my A to Z playthrough and my Eastbourne to Carlisle epic journey (with flight to Glasgow for the missing link). Also earmarking my £50 in Steam in the hope the TSW7 bundle will contain some interesting stuff.

I'm not the biggest fan of that either, but I at least get the logic, it's pretty low traffic and isn't that critical to the forum.

I think there's value to be argued, but there's other places on the internet to discuss stuff like Railroader, model trains, and the like if needed. TSW General Discussion is different because it is one of the few places where TSW discussion happens in depth.

You made the right decision, DTG. Thank you!
Also, the feedback sub-thread getting some organization is great news. Feels too jumbled as is. When the community makes noise (respectfully), things happen. :D

I did just watch it and I think it was a good video with some good insight. I remember a few years ago it was said that the forums got about 465 messages per day. According to the video that's now over 1400 messages per day, which is a lot for only 5 people to moderate.

Well…I guess we will speculate on TSW7, and bring that on next!

to finish this, I have a fitting bit of music for this occasion.

I think we have been heard. Thanks to all the members who gave detailed reasons as to why what was proposed for closing the GD subforum would have been a bad thing to do and thanks to everyone for weighing in with any comment on it. Thanks also to DTG for listening and keeping the forum intact.

Just watched the video of Alex, with a clear explanation of everything. From what I get, DTG didn't realize how important the General Discussion and the forum in general are for the community, well they do know it now ;) I would like to say thank you to candacedtg for listening and communicating with us about this matter and passing through the feedback.

Great news and an excellent and very sensible explanation video from Alex. He makes some great points, especially around the future of the forums with regards to the Online Safety Act etc. I think most of us here welcome much stricter moderation to keep the forums safe and enjoyable.

I don’t know who to thank from the DTG staff for this decision, but I’ll thank Candace, at least she was with us all this time.

But I'm absolutely certain that we need to thank every user who cared and took the time to defend our corner. Thank you, people!

This is excellent news, I'm not going to boast because I really appreciate the passionate points put forward and for DTG for listening. We're all winners.

One word of caution though. I am personally surprised that this has been reversed because I had a hunch that DTG had received some advice from their lawyers that the discourse was veering towards acts of defamation or threats that could be legally actionable. That doesn't now appear to have been the case.

However, I think we all shoulder some responsibility to keep our house in order and to think prior to posting.
    1. Is this how I'd speak to someone to their face?
    2. Are the allegations I'm making based on fact or conjecture?
    3. How would I feel if someone was writing this about me?
    4. Each one of us is a human whether we're a customer or a content provider.
    5. Respect and empathy gets you much further in life than being angry and arrogant.

As I've written before, there are countries where "rude" tone is the absolute norm.

You can say some people are too soft and take offense at nothing, or you can say some people are too rude and disrespectful. Or you can simply accept the fact that if you haven't been told f-off or directly insulted, then they treat you normally. It seems to me that many people here simply wouldn’t be able to get conversation in Eastern Europe, for example, because everyone there is “so rude”.

    Hey folks,
I did take a nap and just wake up to the news…and YAY!

We all discussed this as a team, I just was in for most of the weekend due to having to shuffle my time around, so I was more “in the trenches” with y’all, so to say. When I started today I was really sad because I knew we would be saying “it’s closed”. Taking a nap (I have a late shift with another project), and waking up to this news was pretty cool! I’m so glad folks listened to us.

Alright y’all, I’m going to be away the rest of today, but ping me and I’ll reply when I am back in.

It's not our first big victory, a few years back when they were moving UE4 versions, think it was 4.3 to 4.6, they originally planned not to port any existing content over, we kicked up a big stink about it, DTG changed their plans, we won and the preservation crew was born

Thank you DTG! Maybe I'm not the one who writes here most, but love to follow discusissions around new DLC:s and features. People contributing with their knowledge around certain areas IRL, especially regarding the historical facts. Also every years speculations regarding the three core routes :D

It is good news, and goes to show, reasoned feedback is listened to by DTG.

Before the euphoria of this announcement wears off, I just want to point out we, as the community, have a responsibility to show it was the right decision. I think Wivenswold said it very succinctly:

Just to note - Anything related to improved conduct that we can support, we're happy to help as much as possible. If we can help shift the narrative around who uses the forums, and how it feels to engage, to be more positive - it's only a win for everyone :)

Just on this, I mention it in my longer video (If you've not seen, I can't blame you as it's fairly longer, even with timestamps). My thoughts on this:

We're not being pressured to make any changes to the forums from a legal (Online Safety Act / Law) view at this point in time. But I will say, this isn't guaranteed. We're not 100% sure how we'll navigate these changes if requested yet, or what that means.

You've shown you want a place on the forums, and we're hoping these changes can commit to this, and if anything ever changes, I'll let you know asap.
