Anyone else like me? I love forward to seeing what the new routes will be, but at the same time annoyed it's another different version of the game instead of an update...

not really, I don't know why people get upset over a new game when the only "valid" point they have is download times.

That's why I said annoyed and not upset or angry. I'm not against them, although, the free starter pack should be free forever imo, DTG don't lose anything by having it be a glorified demo

Exactly! The free starter pack is the main reason I don't see an issue with the new title every year. It's purely for marketing purposes really which most likely helps bring in new customers which is good for existing customers. if it didn't help the game in the last 3 "yearly releases" they wouldn't continue to do it. Now I know TSW7 is not "announced" but I, and 99% of the TSW Community know it WILL come.

i second this. the main problem with a yearly release, especially tsw4, was that dlc such as blackpool was locked behind a paywall which the free starter pack eliminated. it’s a good move on dovetails part, one i’ll be very happy with this year as unless the three core routes blow me away then i’m not spending any money on the base game. i’ve got plenty to play with as it is

I agree. I hope they really do make some good core routes. But they are never going to satisfy everyone i suppose.

I've always thought the Free Starter Pack should be permanent.
Say you only saw TSW when Medway came out, or only got interested then, you have to pay £30 for route + £30 (I think) for the cheapest core bundle. Permanent free core substantially reduces the cost for new players, who might be put off buying a core bundle if they don't care for the core content...

I suppose DTG want you to spend as much as possible though

I hope that high-quality titles—including the core releases—are launched every year. While I understand that it is impossible to eliminate every single bug, it is disappointing when games are simply replaced by new versions without any fixes being made. If this aspect were improved, my expectations for the series would rise significantly.

Something Fishy is going on next week.
Notice how the next roadmap is on a WEDNESDAY, rather than a Tuesday?
what could be happening on Tuesday?
I think we all know the answer to that!
oh. and to add to my evidence.

    image0.png

The TSW6 reveal. WAS EXACTLY THE SAME TIME AS LAST YEAR!

which is on the EXACT SAME DATE as the roadmap THIS YEAR?

    Coincidence?

They would normally trail Dovetail Direct as Dovetail Direct though, they tend to make a big thing of it, not to sneak it out.

If anything, the longer we go without a Dovetail Direct makes the idea of a full new version less likely. But who knows.

Need to take you to task on this one a bit OldVern.

First up, I can categorically say it wasn't a beta tester, nobody has been let go from the beta team and everyone internal to the team was disgusted that it happened. I know what where the problem was, and things have changed, but it was NOT the beta team.

Second - poor vetting of testers by DTG and not having a sufficiently rigorous NDA - that's a daft thing to say, that's literally victim-blaming.

We have to rely on trust. An NDA is a backstop but it is the "threat" that is only any use *after* the horse has been let out of the stable.

I put a lot of time and effort into vetting the people I invite onto the beta team, reviewing their engagements, I look for people who challenge us but do so thoughtfully, but at the end of the day it's a relationship based 100% on trust. If that trust is violated, how do you come to the conclusion it's our fault?

I really would appreciate you stop this invalid line of assuming the beta team were at fault.

    Matt.

I'm more excited for the Three routes for the price of 1.3 routes really. Well maybe 2 routes cos the US stuff doesn't often interest me too much.

Leaks are always an unsolvable issue; ultimately, it's just a game. For players who dislike leaks, you can completely avoid discussions about leaks and patiently wait and see. I'm also glad to see some posts providing relevant resources.

Since we can all agree that DTG needs to communicate on the next roadmap if we will get a new game or not, i would prefer a potential direct stream to happen in late July or early August.
After all we already had multiple weeks/months of silence this year and the effect it has on the community was clearly visible, so another waiting game for 1.5 months and somewhat pointless speculation in the meantime cannot be good for whatever is planned.

I wonder how realistic it is to assume they will release TSW 7 early, given the absence of DTG made content and a large console player base waiting for November 19th not trying to pay over 200 bucks for videogames within 2 months.

Actually, I also hope to see Train Sim World in Unreal Engine 5. Why not just keep the Unreal Engine 4 version of Train Sim World? If the DLC can't be released in Unreal Engine 5, then the Unreal Engine 4 version of the game can continue to run. DTG can continue to optimize and fix the Unreal Engine 4 game, so it won't affect Unreal Engine 5. This way, players who own the DLC can continue to enjoy the game in the world of Unreal Engine 4.

I really wish they would do something about the visibility range.
Unlit traffic lights, uneven road joints,
and the haphazard arrangement of similar-looking houses all feel off.

A couple of QOL updates that would be nice.

Have your chosen weather on a normal timetable run (not Journey mode) carry forward when loading a save game not reset to fine and sunny.

Sort out route hopping so it actually works, not get stuck on the blue void, dump you on the track in the middle of nowhere or spawn you on the new route with no trains running.

Very true. Along with all the other save game fixes we get promised are, “With engineering”, but then never materialise.

Depending on what the core routes are I'd maybe just grab the free update initially and wait for sales on the bundles. Might have to wait a while given I'm on XBox, but there's still plenty of stuff I'd be able to play in the meantime.

People really don't seem to get that, that would be a massive undertaking. UE5.8 was the last major release before UE6. The rendering pipeline in UE5 changed fundamentally (Nanite, Lumen, Chaos physics replacing PhysX, World Partition replacing the old level streaming model). DTG's entire codebase (signal logic, physics, route tools, the custom gameplay framework TSW is built on) and years of C++ written against UE4 APIs that either don't exist in UE5 or work completely differently. Running two versions of the game long-term basically means every fix, every new feature, every engine improvement has to be built (or at least tested) twice if both are staying current. Route and loco assets built for UE4's older material/lighting pipeline don't automatically benefit from or even look correct in UE5's PBR/Lumen/Nanite pipeline. Meshes often need reimport or rework to actually take advantage of Nanite, lightmaps need rebaking for Lumen, materials frequently need reauthoring.

Going from UE4 to UE5 isn't a simple port, it's essentially a rebuild, all the rendering, physics, and world-streaming systems are different enough that it would require a complete overhaul. Which, I agree they should do, because the current build is just too buggy from the ground up it needs to be retired - but I don't think you're going to see it in the next iteration of this saga. If anything you won't see an engine switch until UE6 which is going into early access in 2027 and a full release in 2028/29.

Pipe dreams are one thing, reality is another.

Maybe the North Wales line as the next core UK route? It's been very heavily requested so surely it'll come at some stage? Might be good for the scenery and not having a ridiculously heavy timetable?

Although I'd prefer JT to do that route in the 80s

I kind of feel like that's going to just feel like another Riviera Line though to be honest. 80x trains + what I'm sure will be more TFW 150s and maybe a TFW 197 or something.

I have a gut feeling itll be a northern route as the core route, we need more of their stock in game

A fear I expressed either earlier in this thread or one of the others when I had a lightbulb moment about the possible UK route. Despite my eagerness for a Riviera route, the modern incarnation in TSW6 left me cold and probably one of my least played UK routes. I really hope they don’t wreck NWC by giving us a diet of 805’s and 197’s.

One thing thats caught my eye.

The 350 AI will have a LICENSED SWR livery.

Could this maybe hint at the core uk route for TSW7.

DTGs strategy is odd this year.

theyre waiting it out, instead of flat out announcing it like TSW6.

they are trying to get more hype with this one, theyre keeping the door shut, because they have some kind of ace up their sleeve, i can feel it.

The more speculation and more hype surrounding the direct, the more attention itll get.

my guess tsw7 is Passenger uk route. Passenger German route. Passenger USA route....maybe another new york/NJ route.
i hope they have move save game slots. and player add eot to back of train feature that i saw on that survey while ago.

    another theory;

DTG perhaps arent flat out announcing it, because it may not even be called TSW7 at all.

Could they be scrapping the number system?
