This is one of the busiest (if not the busiest, besides Westbahn corridors to St. Polten / Salzburg) rail lines in all of Austria... Vienna is actually connected to Wiener Neustadt with three lines (+ Badner Bahn which is tram-train local service): 1) Wien - Wiener Neustadt mainline via Modling and Baden (vmax 160 kph) Used by all kinds of services from S-Bahn all stopping to RailJets (and CJX 9, which usually continues to either Payerbach-Reichenau or Murzzuschlag)... in foreseeable future, OBB plans to extend the portion to Modling to 6 tracks, insane 2) Wien - Wiener Neustadt mainline via Pottendorf aka Pottendorfer Linie (modernized and still undergoing some construction; when all is done, vmax should be 200 kph) Used by S60 (Bruck an der Leitha - Wien Hbf, then at Meidling it turns towards Wien Blumental and continues on modernized line) line to Wiener Neustadt, as well as some REX6 services to Deutschkreutz, as well as some services to Wulkaprodersdorf, Eisenstadt and Hungary 3) Wien - Traiskirchen Aspangbahn / Traiskirchen Aspangbahn - Wiener Neustadt (branch line, joins the mainline near Sollenau; speeds are generally pretty low, but once it joins mainline, it is 120 kph) This line is kinda fragmented, probably to enable better frequency, as a lot of it is single track... you cant buy a single ticket from Wien to Wiener Neustadt via this route, you have to actually buy two - one to Traiskirchen and the other to Wiener Neustadt... at Traiskirchen Aspangbahn station, you get off one 5047, walk across the "platform" to the other 5047 waiting there... if you aim to get from Wien to Wiener Neustadt, there are more practical ways, but for railfans and as a joyride, it is very enjoyable ... serves mainly smaller communities and at some sections it uses mainly driver's eyesight instead of any signalling Rolling stock: Right here (and then some): https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/austrian-core-loco-pack.89899/ The services frequency is INSANE - pretty much no waiting time as there is always a train in either direction, with even more services planned The most asset-heavy part would be Vienna, of course, and some parts of mainline and Aspangbahn, as Pottendorfer Linie is mostly on elevated tracks I would be besides myself if even one of the mainlines got made, and in 70th railway heaven if all three... as for Wien Stammstrecke, it would be enough if they did what I call "belt" section between Hauptbahnhof and Meidling, with Kledering to the east and Meidling - Liesing "branch" to the south (+ Inzersdorf + Blumental to the south-east) Pls, DTG, please ))
If you own this one with Semmeringbahn you can go from Mürzzuschlag Wiener Neustadt Wien Hbf by hopping at Wiener Neustadt. Looking at the nightjet that runs on this route it has a 1216
sometimes they also use other Taurus subtypes, sometimes Vectrons, and for some even 1144s... as for lets say CJX9, I often see it either at Hbf or at Praterstern, usually made up of 2x Desiro MLs I mean, we need realistic CJX9 on Semmeringbahn ... that beast pelts it out at 160 where it can, not some measly, peasant 140 lol as for Pottendorfer Linie, havent yet taken a joyride there this year - last year most trains were limited to 140 there due to numerous construction sites still active... atm the whole thing should be done, maybe except the big yard at Wampersdorf
a little update: recently some of the new Stadler KISS 160 units have entered service on Wien - Wiener Neustadt corridor, as OBB 4736... vmax is 160 kph, not sure about the number of coaches, because OBB has ordered 3, 4 and 6 coach variants for various routes/services (6-coach one for RailJet services, I assume) they look SO GOOD
Personally, I'm eager for them to add a Belgian or Austrian DLC, which could include the Desiro ML, both the AM-08 and the ÖBB 4746. This train can reach [speed] in under 1 minute 30 seconds The speed of 160 km/h is so fast and versatile, ideal for regional services. And also its traction, which gives us a magnificent sound; it's a real shame they didn't include it. At least if they add it now, it will be a very complete version, with announcements.
or this one... Skoda InterPanter, mainly used in Czech Republic and Slovak Republic... has almost identical sound to Desiro ML (probably using the same or analogous traction motors)... if we got it for some new Czech route, that would be pretty cool too (vmax 160 kph, tho I guess they only reach those speeds in Czech Republic)
Personally, I take a route in the south of Belgium, connecting Liège to Luxembourg City. We pass through the Ardennes (this region in Belgium is very hilly with many valleys, Even though the hills aren't that high, the train doesn't actually go faster than 100 km/h because of the many curves. But I prefer having the Desiro ML to get a new train that is used in Belgium. Here I will post a link to a video that shows my train line, if you are interested in seeing it. That's Could look like Some Austrian regions but i mean it's doesn't look Like tot Tyrol or east region of Austria.
will watch it when I get home from work, thx ... personally, I love the channel... would like to see the captions like in those vids in this game - like when passing a branch or sth, or a station, see a caption pop up instead of having to go to map screen
if you mean Wiener Neustadt, then yeah... not as impressive as a building, it is quite ordinary, but the number of tracks and how incredibly busy it is, thats super cool all day, almost every minute or two there is a train going to Vienna or further (some going through Vienna to Czech Republic, like Breclav or Znojmo)... and the other direction, the traffic towards Graz and such is also immense... when the Semmering tunnel goes into operation in a couple years, it will only intensify and Wiener Neustadt might see even more trains, even more highspeed ones and Wien Hbf is an absolute unit of a station... maybe not as huge and complex as Munich, Frankfurt or upcoming Stuttgart 21, but still super impressive also the variety of stock is a joy to behold... Slovakia's busiest station (Bratislava main station, I think) looks like a regional hub compared to Wiener Neustadt (and Wien Hbf is in a completely different class)
I agree and for German names you'll be saying Lunenberg for Breclav and Znaim for Znojmo this is what an old KkStb map of Nordwestbahn/Nordbahn has
