This was quite scary to read as someone who has been playing on PS5 for a few years. Does it have to do with your high level and/or high number of completed services? Maybe the sheer amount of completed tasks has ballooned your save file over the maximum size the game can read? Seems like the issue could be fix-able by DTG in theory at least.

The BR 420 is permanently glued to the bottom of that list. And Ludmilla is a distant memory lost in time. xD

Actually on second thoughts, the real issue is additional DLC and how is can effectively to be integrated into timetables going firward. Additional timetables are fine but it gets confusing unless it's a different date.

Your fear is warranted. When I first saw this issue reported last fall, I assumed it was some freak crash or storage issue, etc. A month later it happened to me. My current assumption is that it's a bug that will affect all high level PS5 players eventually. If your profile is important to you, you should be backing it up regularly. I prefer USB backups since a cloud save could easily be overwritten with a corrupted save. The problem with USB backups is that restoring it forces you to reinstall all your games, DLC, etc. I've had to do this numerous times in my attempts to troubleshoot this issue.

Yes, it is related to high level and/or the number of services/scenarios/tutorials completed. Tutorials in particular seem to be a trigger for the issue. It seems to hit players who are at least around level 1000. I was around 1100. There is clearly something wrong with the profile save routine at the end of a service/scenario/tutorial when the numbers get high. It crashes at the same point every time it happens and then brutally corrupts your save and causes your profile to just disappear.

Absolutely it could. I've been trying to get DTG's attention since I first saw it reported by other players. When it happened to me, I submitted a ticket that was closed immediately with a "we'll investigate" type of response. DTG-Chris also mentioned an "investigation" back in January. All of my requests for an update on this investigation have been ignored.

Wait, on PS you cannot individually back up a single game's saves to external media like on XBox or PC?

Tadami and the Mildmay extension have been on the roadmap since March in the 0-3 months section which is now over four months ago and the Thames Branches since April. When can we expect them?

That is five months after it appeared in the 0-3 months section of the March roadmap. Mildmay Line Richmond extention was also on the same roadmap. DTG should change it to 0-6 months.

For PS4 games, yes, you can backup individual games’ save data or even individual save files on either USB or a cloud if you’re subscribed to PS+. For PS5 games though, no, you can only backup individual games’ save data on the cloud as long as you’re subscribed to PS+. USB is no longer an option. Welcome to Sony where Play has no limits.

I’m glad to see Tadami finally closing in. Jury’s still out on what the quality will actually be like, but I’m excited to see Japan in TSW.

Can’t say l am bothered about Japan being in TSW with so many Japanese Train Simulators on the market. Now l would be extremely excited for an Australian route, especially a Sydney City Rail with the Tangara and Waratah locomotive train sets

Or the old Coals To Newcastle from MSTS!

Though I would also like to see something around the Moss Vale area in NSW.

As regards Tadami, well I won’t be a Day One adopter for this, definitely going to wait and see how it shapes up.

the release windows of the roadmap really need redoing. tadami has been in 0-3 months for 5 months, and trent valley appeared in there for around a month iirc. i think a 1 month, 2 month, 3-6 months and the existing ‘further down the line’ sections should be the new format

I think rather than sorting stuff by time, they should do it by stage of development. So when a DLC is ready for testing we get an idea it is getting closer to release. This might also allow for DLC to move back and forth if they need more work or things change for them. Not sure what the phases should be as I'm not a developer, but Alex mentioned 'looking for a release window' with regard to upcoming stuff, so I think even when a DLC is ready, there needs to be a suitable date and time for promotion to support its release.

Just want to thank Alex for his work on the roadmap livestream. Did a great job flying solo and appreciated him taking on questions openly and with good humour!

Home game consoles also have various manufacturer-imposed restrictions and the like, making it a hassle to actually play them, doesn't it?

I feel there is definitely strong advantages for consoles as mentioned above, and applaud those who choose that route understanding the limitations as well as the benefits. That being said, what I can’t understand is a company trying to maintain parity of the simulation across a memory constrained systems and the PC environment. The current problem of blurriness seems mostly a console problem, while a solution is still being investigated, the interim work around seems to be reducing traffic and complexity. IF this is accomplished via reduced timetables for consoles then ok… but if this interim approach morphs into 3rd party developers stop pushing the envelope because of the angst it causes, I am afraid future trajectory of TSW will just be mediocre.

The whole history of simulations have been pushing the limits of hardware for improved realism, and advances in hardware performance, thus leading to the push for advanced realism. But when you are coding for a set hardware configuration, you can only push the software so far.

To bring this back on topic, my concern for the roadmap is that this unbalance in performance between the two camps can some how be addressed not by coding for the most common denominator- but by providing content for both camps… be it by some 3rd parties pushing the envelope like TSG for the higher spec PC environment, while others design for good quality performing content for the console environment.

True. And there's no question that TSW's core technology has advanced very slowly if at all over the past 8 or 9 years. Just compare the latest routes to Sand Patch (2017 ), a route that still holds up against anything being produced today.

But this is not due to the need to code for consoles. After all, there are plenty of older PC's still struggling with the game.

No the problem is more systemic. It comes down to DTG's unwillingness or, more likely, inability to advance the core technology for all platforms.

That's why we have such poor NPC tech, lack of a modern save application and blurry texture and capacity caps for higher end consoles. And probably why DTG is casting off its development program to third parties, who are stuck with old and inefficient core technology which they are not permitted to advance themselves.
