there really isnt something that adds up with this.

TSW EULA states that payed, commercial products like this are a violation.

You state that DTG gave you permission to make this a payed, commercial product but you also say that you aren't affiliated or endorsed with DTG as it states at the end...how does that work?

This is unbelievably gross. Having a paid product like this violates DTG’s EULA, this post is AI generated (as well as possibly the code, if I had to guess), and there are 2 other apps I can think of off of the top of my head that do this FOR FREE! People are so greedy and lazy nowadays…

For a simulator where syncing the in-game time to the real world time is already tricky by having to pick the right service at the right second, I don't think desynced real-time weather at an illegal cost makes it much better. I'd rather pick the free options, or just use in-game dynamic or static weather.

This just makes me appreciate the free mods more. Although the above wall of text claims this product updates the state more often, it's not something I feel is missing.

What is missing from this product seems to be historic weather and route annotations. So it's a no from me. It seems to offer less for a price.

Turns out, that the EULA states that any part of the editor in TSW cannot be sold.

However, this mod here fiddles around with the APIs of TSW. Which is outside that scope of EULA.

We double checked with DTG that it is okay to sell this. This product is still not supported or affiliated with Train Sim World or DTG at this stage. Also as you say, it is a grey area as it falls outside the EULA but it is a product that can only be used with Train Sim World. So we double checked its okay legally.

It does not violate the EULA. This product is an option, no one is forced to purchase it. It will not be for everyone. Some people will see the benefit, some people will not.

Can someone from DTG come in here and confirm this before anyone goes ahead and decides to buy this. There’s been no mention from DTG at all about this. I’m pretty sure they’d atleast let the community know about this.

This looks suspiciously like it was written by AI. No em-dashes, but loads of sub-headers repeating the same thing just slightly re-written.

I won't be buying it regardless, TSW Route Annotations is superior in every way.

Is this a mod? It sounds like a utility. Is the utility covered by the EULA?
I've seen various paid utilities for games. Remember RW_Tools?

But overall, I agree: there's a proven free utility, and then a new paid one pops up. It seems to promise more and better, but it also seems like there's no need for it.

As it utilises APIs, and doesnt necessarily make any anything paid with the editor, im going to assume so far, that it doesnt cross anything EULA wise.

I’ll stick with the free live weather/annotations mod even if it doesn’t update every second. ;)

Route Annotations works just fine for me.

I'm generally not a fan of paid mods fwiw.

No need to buy it, there are two free ones that I know off of the top of my head. RailBridge is a fantastic free community mod that offers live weather, as well as an external display using the API. TSW Route Annotations + Live Weather also features live weather based on OpenMeteo data. Don't support a lazy developer that uses AI and asks money for their questionable quality product, support a freeware developer doing it for the love of the game and community :)

I’ll definitely be buying this tool, as I think it’s a really good option for real-time weather.

And since you also incur costs by delivering your services to TSW via your own servers, it’s only natural that it costs a bit.

Okay, interesting statement you’re making there… Buying drugs is also a choice and yes, there are people who do that but it’s still illegal according to the law. So I’m not sure what your point is here, and to me that doesn’t make it a valid argument.

He's specifically said that he has DTG's okay, and he's posting this openly on DTG's forum.

Main catch I can see is that the weather data "runs on our own delivery pipeline" so if that pipeline gets cut off, whether by service interruption, dev losing funding or interest, etc., the user is out their £9.99.

Thinking more about it, and while I'm no kind of expert, this kind of thing seems tailor-made for a low-cost subscription, since it involves ongoing data costs for the publisher. Further, that £9.99 cost of entry seems high anyway; at the current Steam sale prices for example (and using U.S. prices at the current exchange rate, since that's what I can see), all the TSW version standard editions except 5 and the vast majority of the DLCs are cheaper than this add-on. Does the publisher really expect that ongoing sales of what seems to me a very niche item for a niche game will fund this service long-term?

Couldn't you make the same argument about any new DLC against a old one?

Like I'm just saying, $30 for the TSG 145 on its own is a awful value compared to spending that same amount for multiple complete routes with their own rolling stock. Same thing with Thames Valley, so many routes infinitely better value due to how good the sales are.

I don't trust the dev, something seems fishy with what they're doing for sure, but some of these arguments are just poor.

This isn't a DLC. You're comparing apples to different apples, I'm comparing the price of (IMO) an extremely niche add-on whose only purpose is to stream current weather conditions into the route currently being played to that of both DLCs and main game packages, and questioning whether people would be interested in spending that much, as well as whether the upfront charge for an ongoing service is even viable for the publisher.

My questions are intended to be constructive and give the dev a chance to explain his reasoning. On the other hand, how constructive is multiple people ignoring what the dev said about having DTG's blessing and continuing to question his integrity anyway?

For things like these it'd be better to have a confirmation from DTG themselves as lies can be easily manufactured.

Also with this releasing so close to the TSW7 release what assurances do we get that the developer will make it compatible. We have seen so many false promises and blatant lies from DTG and DLC providers over the last 12 months. I don’t know if anyone involved in TSW is capable of an ounce of integrity after they’ve cashed in on a release. ATS and their 90 has to be by far the worst offender!

Until proven otherwise, we'll have to wait until August 25th to be sure there's a TSW 7...

dont get me wrong, the weather mod itself looks fantastic, and it is really thought out.

But I feel like its going to struggle against the free weather mods that are already out there.

Do you really think that this add-on, which communicates with TSW via HTTPAPI, won’t be able to do that in TSW 7?

After all, TSW 7 is really just another version of TSW 6!

Also always sus when an account that has not posted in 4 years suddenly reactivates to sell something. Usually when that happens, said inactive account has been hacked by scammers.

I don't see that this is against any EULA as it's using the API and I have no concerns that it won't work on TSW7.

I just personally don't see the point when it doesn't seem to offer much new. I now have 3 different Apps that use the API to set the weather, the best of which uses historical weather to set the actual weather for the service I'm running and it gives me route annotations.

This new app only seems to offer more frequent updates on the be current weather, so is quite irrelevant to me. Even if I used current weather, I can't say I've noticed that it doesn't update enough.

I wish the Developer luck, but honestly they would have been better coming up with something original rather than something that has already been done really well for free. I'd rather support modders with donations (and do).

Maybe it would be a good idea to make a video showing it working. Then maybe we can see why it's worth it.

    Hello everyone.

Just like to try and respond to what I am seeing here:

There are free live weather mods out there. For a lot of people, them products may be enough. Nimbus will not be for everyone. No one is forced to purchase it.

This product does not break any EULA. We even have permission from DTG to self publish and sell this product. I hope that DTG will come here and confirm this as some of you do seem skeptical.

There is certainly nothing lazy about this product, what we have done here is what most simulators in general do not do. You can only find two flight simulators that do this kind of thing. I do not think this product is of questionable quality, it's a question if an individual finds it valuable to them.

A subscription was considered, but in the long run, a one time fee is cheaper.

A lot of time has not just gone into this product, but also the website around it. Which will also support our future products. This is our first payware product, and there is more to come. I am sure we would love all content to be free and for the love of the community, but it is just not realistic.

    Happy driving.

Not to be rude but its very likely that DTG will bring live weather in TSW7 so what is the advantage of this mod above what DTG delivers?

Do you have any sources or anything similar to back up your claims?
DTG really needs to get on with finally sorting out the performance issues on the consoles.

And even if DTG does include live weather in TSW7, we know full well how DTG handles new features.
We don’t need any new features from DTG anyway, because no matter what features DTG has included in TSW, they’ve never implemented them as promised on older routes and locomotives.

Well, because the plug‑in that makes that possible has only been available for a few months. The API required for that allows TSW to communicate. It’s therefore certainly not unthinkable that DTG can now implement it very easily. But answer my question… What does your mod offer over the rest? Take Route Annotations as an example, or if DTG implements it themselves.

What makes it more likely that i will pay for you're mod? The only thing that you have done is drop a few links and nothing more than "Read the website Succes"... A bit strange for me..

What sort of rubbish are you writing now!
This hasn’t just been possible for a few months – it’s been possible for over a year now.

    Have a look at Winzarten’s first post; it’s dated 8 August 2025.

On PC this won’t amount to much either, I’m afraid. He posts some AI‑generated text and two links… That’s not exactly productive, is it? If you ask what this mod actually offers beyond the existing mods, you don’t really get an answer, so you don’t gain much from it. There are several other modders active here who always go into great detail about their work and what they want to develop, and here you see pretty much the opposite not very productive and unfortunately not convincing.

I think you may have some misunderstanding about what the API is. What it allows is external programs to read and set some in game parameters. This is different from the ability for DTG to call external APIS from the game, in their own code. They have been able to do that from day one.

Wow, I can’t believe this community, a company makes an optional utility for the sim which provides a feature that is not native to the simulation and many treat the company as a leper. Yes there are free mods that provide some of those features and that author was treated as a hero( well deserved in my opinion). IT IS A CHOICE PEOPLE!!!. If you don’t want the utility DON’T BUY IT. Third party developers are what have kept FSX and TSC alive and should be welcomed, not chastised. If their product is not for you, walk away.

Whether it’s a choice is one thing, but whether it’s allowed is another. As I mentioned earlier, buying and possessing drugs is also a choice, but it’s not allowed. Anyway, it’s up to DTG to decide whether this is permitted and whether it can be promoted here on the forum. I’m not judging it, I just find it a bit complicated because how are you going to keep this under control? In many simulation games where this happens, the developers do not allow selling such things on their official forums, and it usually happens through Facebook or other platforms instead. I understand why people are raising questions about it.The question is also why this is being posted during a weekend when DTG is not active, especially if, according to the creator, there has supposedly been consultation with them.

It's somewhat amusing how I had to do a double take on if you were saying that it was up to DTG whether dealing drugs on the forum is permitted :D

Which of course, it is, technically, but obviously DTG will have chosen the option which provides the least hassle from the authorities on their part.

I think the main difference is how, for example, someone like myself might have been quite happy to give a forum user like Beentrain, who never asked for it up front, some money after the fact as thanks for a great service, many probably find the way this one is being marketed rubs them the wrong way.

I think it’s fine to sell stuff that uses the API. Those people selling controllers for hundreds of pounds don’t get this kind of hassle from the community. They just get loads of praise and loads of money.

Sorry, I find that comparison a bit complex… but alright, if that’s your perspective, that’s okay.

I think stujoy is right. Hardware that also uses the API is being sold, and nobody asks whether it works with every train, or whether you’ve got permission from DTG.

jesper2805, stujoy’s comparison is certainly more realistic than yours about selling drugs.

Just because someone had the idea to build a plugin – and even spent money to ensure it runs with real data – and then wants to sell it, you’re all claiming it’s illegal, that it infringes DTG’s rights and who knows what else. It really does seem to me that, just because someone other than you had the idea to build it this way, you now have to disparage it.

And as for the price – what this plugin is supposed to cost – it’s just ridiculous. You’d think the plugin’s creator was trying to get rich off it. Go for a drink at the pub, or go out for a meal, and you’ll see just how ridiculous this small price for the plugin really is.

For those curious on how this plays: I've got early access, and I'm testing it properly against its own claims and also against the free options available (the primary one being Winzarten's app) - where it holds up, where it doesn't. Full walkthrough later this week! :)
