I probably spoke too soon about getting to grips with this otherwise very nice loco.

On loading into a saved run this evening, I had an immediate full brake application which has thus far defied any and all attempts to release. Note this had not occurred be cause the boiler has primed, it was running fine on level track when I saved with the boiler level about 0,4. There is no separate ejector for the brakes on this loco and I have tried all positions of the train brake handle to no avail. Also tried the vacuum release valve on the LHS of the cab again no good.

So has anyone else had this occur and if so how did you resolve the situation, please? Or is this another loco where, due to the scripting, saving the game is not supported?

Thanks Kilt. I might try and contact Meshtools about it, though not sure if they are still about as the last posts on their FB page are from years ago. Oh well, one of those things - too late to refund now, but at least I only paid the equivalent of a pint of beer for it. Just have to use it on shorter runs.

    Edit:
FWIW support request submitted to DTG. Meshtools do not appear to have any active website or contact details, their Facebook group looks abandoned and I don't think either Ed Fisk personally or as Meshtools has an active forum account to which a polite DM could be sent.

I mean, yes, this add on is never going to get a fix at this point if it is bugged, just would be nice to know which it is - bug or scripting does not support the save game.

    Standard BS response from Support...

A video capture is pointless in this situation, what they need to do is actually test it themselves to see if the issue can be reproduced or contact Meshtools/Fisk to find out what they have to say.

"Thank you for reaching out to Dovetail Player Support,

We understand how frustrating it can be whenever we encounter these types of issues during our gameplay experience.

We apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused.

So that we can have your case logged as complete as possible, would it be possible for you to share a brief video or screenshot of the issue?

This can help our development team to have your case logged as complete as possible and have a more specific and deeper look.

    How to capture screenshots/videos
Screenshots and videos can be really useful for bug reporting, especially when you are trying to describe a complex problem and important details could be missed.

    PC
How to use the Xbox Game Bar to capture game clips and screenshots on Windows

If your video or screenshot is below 20 MB, you may simply attach it to your next reply. If your video is too large to attach, please upload it to YouTube or OneDrive and provide a link in your next reply.
Uploading an "unlisted" video to YouTube

    1. Sign in to your YouTube account using the desired channel.
    2. Click the “Upload” button in the top right corner.
    3. In the upload process:

    5. Click “Open” to start the upload process.
    6. Copy the video link and Paste it into your next reply.

    Tips

    • Use built-in video capture software instead of recording the screen with a phone.
    • If you have no other option than to use a phone, please film in landscape mode.
    • Start the recording from the main menu.
    • Enable the HUD (F1 Key -PC Only)

Do we know if either Meshtools or Edward Fisk have a forum membership here so I can DM them?

Edward occasionally posts on the TSW forum as he does work for some other developers but I can't remember what name he uses. Meshtools is /was Michael Whiteley who went on to work for DTG or whatever they were called at the time and then went to Japan IIRC. Not seen anything of him since

Thanks Andy. I'll see if support come back with a more useful response, failing that will just have to use on scenarios or QD's I can finish in one session. Probably why I refunded the first time but that option now expired as I've played TSC well over two hours since the rebuy.

Good luck waiting for a more useful response from support, I've never had one Every interaction with them is like corresponding with a bot rather than a human! A bit of ferreting suggests that Edward goes by the handle DominusEdwardius on the TSW forum.

I don't think anybody can help you here the problem is a scripts running state is not saved so when you load in a save the script is not executed because it would be from the start of said script. There can be quite a few scripts running in the background from route scripts, scenario scripts. loco scripts. rolling stock. It would be quite a technical challenge to save the state of every running script if at all.

Ever loaded a save at a platform with an exit signal and the signal never turns green? Its because the signal script is not executed and it remains in its default state which is usually red.

I'll give you an example of a situation if a script is executed loading a save while not loco related its the same principle. You start a new scenario and the first thing is the camera starts panning around the platform, the loco and to the driver then the camera script ends and control is handed to player, if you save while travelling along at say 75 mph on your way to Euston and then reload the save the camera script executes and it will pan the camera around while your at 75mph! You have no control till the script ends.

Thanks Andy, I’ll give him a polite ping.

If the above doesn’t work I will try as a last resort but as noted previously the FB site has not been updated in ages so presumed MIA as is their website link which no longer works.

Edit: That worked really well as Ed has blocked DM’s. Let’s try a ping instead… DominusEdwardius - can you please assist with this one.

    Hi,
I’ve had this locomotive since December 2023. I’ve never encountered this problem. I’ve even created two very long scenarios where I had to use save files. I’ve never come across this sort of problem.
I’ll try to give it a go in the next day or two… Perhaps things have changed since a TS update.

    Richard.

Thanks for that Richard. Beginning to suspect it could be the Matrix coaches. I will give it a crack with a different consist later, maybe the Mark Ones from Weardale.

Interesting this, I've had the G2 for a long time but never run it. I bought it for nostalgia as one of the Nuneaton engines (49394 I think) was the first engine I ever cabbed while it was parked in the no longer existing Tamworth Low Level East sidings. The crew were over in the station having their lunch! 1959/60.

An another thing. I’d recommend you read sections 4 and 5 of the manual carefully. That could well be one of the causes of the problem. It’s happened to me before ;-). This locomotive is really interesting to drive for all these reasons.
I’ll give it a go this afternoon.
    Richard.

I did read the section on braking thoroughly but as described I put the train brake into every position (there are no separate ejectors on this loco) to no avail. And to repeat the built in “fault” of the boiler priming when overfilled also not an issue as train running on near level track with only about 50% full on the boiler water. But I will double check again, just to be sure…

currently installing the LSWR O2 Class by Caledonian works defo running it up and down Ryde pier and Shanklin

that is if I can get to Shanklin without it losing power and stopping that tends to happen when I drive steam locomotives not use to the advance boiler and pressure defo reading the manual for this one and getting tips from my local steam railway and another contact I know who could help me

Well, I’ve run some tests using one of the scenarios I created and one that came with the locomotive.
There is indeed an issue with a saved scenario. The brakes show 30 to 35 per cent on the F5 HUD and then slowly decrease to 0. In fact, unlike for you, on my system they aren’t fully applied. There’s just a slight deceleration of the train whilst the brakes are releasing completely. I also ran a test without the wagons; same problem, except that the brakes release more quickly, which makes sense.
I suppose there may have been an issue related to a TS update. That’s just a supposition. If that’s the case, then Meshtools might be able to make the necessary changes.
What I’m certain of is that this problem didn’t exist a while ago.
...and sorry about the manual – I hadn’t read your first message carefully...
    Richard

Thanks for verifying that Richard. I’ll wait to hear back from support and/or Meshtools or Ed on the matter. I’m guessing none of the DTG Community Managers now has any oversight of (or interest in) TSC support matters.

If correct that's very poor. Is the TSC user's cash not worth the same as that of the TSW user?

I’m not entirely sure, but developers such as Meshtools and Smokebox are (and so on...), as far as I know, people who have created sophisticated simulations primarily for TSC. I’ve occasionally got in touch with Smokebox, for example, and their responses have always been helpful and efficient. They’ve often updated their products to make them compatible with TS updates.
    That’s my feeling...
    Richard.

Most TSC users buy the Base Game once and then it is the Add-Ons which generate sales.

A new version of TSW comes out every year with people now having multiple versions of the game
And the previous versions faults do not always get fixed.

There are laws on faulty software, the following applies in the UK.

In addition to Dovetail/Steam's own refunding arrangement, if you find software is faulty within a reasonable time of purchase, and the developer cannot fix it within a reasonable period of time, you are entitled to a) a full refund, and to b) keep the software.

FWIW I've done a manual (I have a question about this product...) request to Steam for a refund. Not likely to get one but worth a try.
