    TSW7 Release without a doubt.
Some might say it was planned that way to pad out the TSW7 Launch.

Let's be super positive and say it is being held until TSW7 because TSW7 will have so many long term performance issues fixed that the problems with this route will no longer exist.

if I’m going to be optimistic, I’d rather believe they’ll release it for TSW6 before TSW7
because honestly, having to wait a hell of a long time for something that’s already been pending for about three years really sucks...

For years, I’ve been looking forward to the first Japanese route in TSW; the screenshots that were shown raised hopes for a beautifully designed route.

Then the leaked video and the postponed release:

Now, my interest has dropped to almost zero. :|

Strange visuals, flat graphics (reminiscent of the MSTS era :o), low-quality textures (e.g. the water), unconvincing vegetation and a lack of trackside details, poor sound design, and vehicles that look like plastic (inside and outside). That might have been good (or good enough) years ago, but today after so many high-quality DLC (JT, TSG, Firefly, Vector, DTG has also released a few good, high-quality DLCs) releases, it all looks rather subpar and certainly not something I’d pay full price for.

Really disappointing at this point in time.

Unfortunately the route was started during TSW3, so much of what you see was more than likely as good as anything else at that time. Over the past 18months things have really leaped forwards with the likes of JT, AABS and Firefly releases. It looks like some of Tadami might still be playing catchup.

I've been looking forward to this, but does anyone know whether DLC releases like this (which have been in development for some time) will only launch for TSW7?

I'm on GeForce Now, so won't have access to the new version as things stand, but I'd be disappointed to not be able to play this or the Mildmay extension, which were both coming to TSW6.

Potentially concerning performance numbers on Tadami from the preview stream. Matt said he's running epic settings with enhanced lighting. He also locks fps to 30 and uses Nvidia smooth motion to get to 60. The concerning part is 96% GPU usage when the game is only pushing out 30 real frames per second. That would make it the least optimized TSW route ever.

Agreed. Very disappointing indeed. In addition to performance problems mentioned above, a no-buy for me.

Very very poor showing, No TSW 7 core features, no TSRs, No rail singing, no suspension, no guard mode, Route is very much stuck in tsw 3 design, when it was first announced btw, 4 years and still very very basic

They are having a laugh if they think many people will buy this. Certainly not at £33.

I played Running Train earlier and it is superb. Looks almost lifelike in places, even at 1440p. Sounds are awesome too. Only drawback is currently the main line and the branch loop are fairly short but hopefully more to come. WRT TSW Tadami, sorry to say, but Densha de Go and even BVE (with the routes from the likes of Mr Gaku) were doing it better 20 odd years ago.

Never been interested in this route at all but can't wait to read the feedback thread for this one, assuming anyone is daft enough to buy it. I only skipped to a few places in the preview stream and yeah, amazing quality, not.

Looks better than what I saw in the leaked video a while back. Mostly due to the enhanced lighting and other graphical features of TSW 7 doing a lot of heavy lifting for it (still looks weirdly "bright" and cartoony though? I don't know how to describe it), but I'd rather spend my money elsewhere and go back to Running Train for my Japanese rail fix. Heard the dev fixed the performance issues with the NPCs and I have yet to try it since.

One piece of advice I can give is to avoid any add-on (from any developer) that doesn't include features designed for TSW7.
    The suspension issue is baffling.
I don't understand how anyone can play with a train that looks like a block of stone sliding on the tracks.
    It's completely unrealistic.

Also loved the point in the livestream at 54m where the executive producer zoomed in to show the suspension, only for the lack of Suspension to be shown with a comment along the lines of "make a note of that Jan"

Sorry but isn't the EP supposed to be aware of the quality of the product they're releasing before they commit to doing a livestream, releasing something in this state and expecting people to pay for it?I

Suspension will never get added like it never has for the class 710 which released after TSW4.

I struggle to understand how these things can happen. Do they really not know what they're presenting? Are those streams the first time they look at these things?

I’m honestly baffled by this as well. I’m not the type who sounds the alarm over one or two issues, but this product absolutely deserves it. Ignoring the real problems while rushing to fill the wallet again is a ridiculous mentality. This product simply isn’t ready to be released. The problem is that DTG will end up rewarding this third‑party developer with money, even though DTG is exactly the one who should prevent this from happening. The quality control here is downright absurd and frankly laughable. I can assure you this product won’t be a success it’s yet another one that’s better to skip entirely.

I think they've made a rod for their own back with this whole premium price thing because all it's going to do from here onwards is further increase levels of scrutiny they were already struggling to contend with when addons were £30 a pop.
I wouldn't go as far as to say that Dovetail Games have created their own 'Ratner' moment, but this particular decision strikes me as being a very peculiar way to instil consumer confidence in a brand that has become somewhat tarnished in recent times....especially when those premium quality levels still aren't guaranteed to be met!

First of all, what exactly is the framework for “premium” pricing? To me it just looks like a price increase for a new country… but the criteria a route supposedly has to meet completely escape me. Let me use Liberec Stará Paka as an example. One EMU with 2 sub‑variants and two different passenger coaches. On top of that, one very detailed diesel locomotive and various freight wagons. And then a very impressive route with far more detail than this Japanese route, which only delivers one train and is also shorter. So yes, you tell me where exactly is the premium price difference supposed to come from?

the 710 you mean the suffragette line one? it was released in the TSW4 cycle, improved suspension came in the final TSW4 cycle along with formation designer
that's why dtg doesn't even touched 710 with improved suspension (and I think they should add suspension to the 710 along with the LIRR M9)

I'm still surprised the price is the standard $39.99
I could have sworn it would cost $44.99
btw, for the price to be justified, they should at least have added suspension

    I'm feeling guilty now.
A few years back, before this was announced, in a survey they asked which new country would you like to see, to which I replied Japan, purely because it'd be different, not through any knowledge.
I don't think I'll be buying this in its current state.

So far, every single route in TSW7 has been individually priced at £33....regardless of what you get, how long it is or where it's located, which at this moment in time suggests that anything over 40 miles and/or contains a couple of trains is regarded as "premium" content - or in layman's terms, a price hike (when compared to similar TSW6 (and older) content).

Like I said though, is it really such a good idea to start messing with prices when TSW isn't even at the point where it can justify any increase on consoles? I'd have thought such a strategy would make folk even less inclined to something they already thought was overpriced.....but hey, I'm just a lowly housing advisor so what do I know!

    Honestly, such a letdown.

The route itself just looks like its stuck in TSW4. its just been held off for 2 years.

It was looking promising, but its just genuinely lame.

You'd think for a route thats been in development for 2 years, with one delay, it would maybe be developed to a good standard...but no..

This is the equivalent of Coventry being promoted in the Premier league just for them to be totally useless.

    So far
    No train announcements
    No station announcements
    No dynamic suspension
    No guard mode
    No train faults (?)
    Really low quality audio.

    The game has truly gone.

    What an absolute embarrassment.

Every TSW preview stream in a nutshell:

    -Audio issues at the start
-Matt picks the worst lighting possible for the first look
-"I thought we fixed that I'll make a note, should be fixed by the time the next game comes out"
-Pan away quickly from a visual bug
-"I don't know if this route has X or Y even though it's our job to know that stuff"
-"The Devs want to add more features post launch but no promises"
-"No this route doesn't have a standard core feature because uhhhhhhhhh...."
-Matt drives like it's the first time he's touched a train

I haven't watched the preview stream...but this sounds pretty rough. For a route which has been in dev since TSW4, we expected better

Maybe I misunderstand the role of the EP/Head Of Trains, but I would have thought they are essentially the ”Capo” of the operation. Nothing gets approved or released without it goes through them first. Is it just totall anarchy then within DTG, a management walking round with heads in the sand and no one taking an oversight of the content in development. As we’ve said before this isn’t some Mom and Pop operation being run from a study in a house or freeware - it’s very expensive commercial software.

Then again, releasing 3P content is relatively easy money for DTG, apart from arranging the console conversions and setting up the various stores. No skin off their nose whether it sells 300 copies or 3000.

It is certainly unacceptable to once again have the presenters of the stream coughing and spluttering over issues they have found then vague promises to feed it back. If such fundamental issues with the route and train have not been addressed in the preceding four years, they certainly won’t be going forward.

I will be looking forward to seeing Train Sim Society view on this later.

At this point I would rather spend my money on one of the better bus routes for OMSI2. Might even try the new Japanese map if it gets a discount in the October steam sale and there’s a couple of German ones I’ve got my eye on.

Matt also streams from the same PC I believe, so it's got the extra 25% of the encoding going on.

Yes because the knowledge of how things work isn't on par with Jetwash.

They should add it especially as it layers in on WCMLs whose trains have suspension.

If I recall LIRR was supposed to get suspension but never did.

The 323 on BCC and Glossop don't yet for some bizarre reason the training centre one does. So you can bounce around the training centre but not New Street station approach.

I do not know how someone wouldn't have spotted the lack of suspension on the Tadami line, it would have been the first thing I would notice.
