I Was hoping for some kind of mention about all the issues console players have been going through lately which are also getting worse and worse as each day passes.
There was not one thing mentioned in Direct/TSW 7 about this, if this hasnt been fixed in the new version then i wont be investing in it, not gonna part with my hard earned money just to have exactly the same problems just with a number 7 slapped on the end.

I literally haven't be able to complete a single run of WCML South - Milton Keynes to London Euston in months, as soon as you get to london euston or a high traffic area it crashes to the xbox dashboard with a video memory error message, and the blurring issue is becoming like a virus at this point and spreading to all the other routes...

Surely they can't expect people to just accept that, especially with how much more there routes cost now. With how expensive this game is, its more like an investment at this point. You can't keep releasing a new "Version" every year and just not fix the issues from before.....

Also has the Mildmay Richmond Extension been cancelled??? As there was no mention of it at all in the direct!!

This was my thoughts but with all the interest in the new stuff advertised i suspect we are in the minority.

Oh yes they can and do. There was pitifully few mentions of improvements for console users with most emphasis going on high end PCs.

It has previously been stated that sales fall equally between PC, Xbox and PlayStation with each getting around a third share and by pitching to the higher end PC users DTG seem happy to let go of probably over 75% of their loyal user base.

As someone who has worked with computers on a near daily basis for decades, the last thing I want in my leisure time is to be again interacting with one hence I like the PS5.

I am not that huge a gamer so am surprised when I hear of people spending £5,000 on a gaming PC. People are free to do what they choose but I'd imagine that a Venn diagram with two circles representing (1) people interested in train Sims and (2) people owning top end gaming PCs would have a very small overlap.

It seems that DTG are pinning their future on this obviously tiny target market hoping it will be enough. I think this planning is deeply flawed and as doomed as a concept to have a game featuring two trains racing each other on adjacent tracks.

I will not be spending any money on Tsw7 for now and will just download the free starter pack to use as a testbed for the large amount of content I already own.

None of the announced new features particularly excite me with the new freight options sounding like Snowrunner on rails. Live weather sounds ok but I could live without it in favour of drastic all round improvements in performance.

The remaster of NTP sounds good enough to hand over money for especially if the wonderfully talented Liam from DTG is involved but apart from that TSW7 leaves me feeling cold towards the whole franchise.

I think it'll be mentioned in the roadmap stream. Yesterday was more of a promotional stream

Yeah this was all about showing the game in its best light, the info about performance are more for the established customer.

I wonder how new players will react when they find that certain DLC's have blurry textures

Looking at the next year roadmap from the Direct, it seems some of the texture improvements come with TSW 7 but they will add more in the autumn and winter seasonal updates.

No, the point being that they're not going to use a glossy promotional video to say "oh and you know the rubbish parts of our game?! We're going to try and fix them too!". It's not good marketing. But it doesn't necessarily mean they're not trying.

Can I also chip in, zero mention of doing anything with the save game. No more slots. No fixes to the loss of data if saving and loading a chained run.

But havent.the blurry texture issues been goung on for a long time now, very little is said about where they are regarding a fix.I know theres a thread at the top of the page about texture issues but thats not really an update.Im not hating on the game just frustrated with it.
Ive not spent as much on dlc as some people on hete but ive spent enough to care about the state of the game on consoles.Like i said, not hating.

I was also wondering what’s going on with the Richmond extension. Apparently it’s on tomorrow’s roadmap so hopefully some good news there.

Blurry textures on consoles was supposed to be the no.1 top priority for DTG so that really needs to be addressed on the roadmap stream.

I suspect the UK and German routes will have blurry textures on console as soon as people add their content back on the 15th...

So console players should wait until the end of the year before jumping to TSW7 is what that suggests.

That was it. First, the promised fix for December will be pushed to February. Then there will be silence from the developers and occasional calls for patience. The textures will continue to blur. Subsequent assurances that I am working on it, but without any visible result.

TSW6 already has layers missing on some routes for performance reasons on XBox Series S so I'm not expecting the extra features like live weather will make things run any better.

This is the Leipzig - Dresden DLC. I turned off substitutions, clear weather and removed a few layers. This was supposed to be fixed in January of this year. Some promise in December won't convince me to buy more.

Gonna be real. I don't believe it even can be fixed. Years they claim to have been looking at it. And nothing has changed. They claimed to have fixed Southeastern Highspeed, but that route never had the issue in the first place.

They'll keep stringing us along till PS6 and Helix come out then claim "hey we fixed console issues on these" when in reality they'll have done naff all and it'll just be the console finally being powerful enough to brute force it's way through DTGs mess of code base and texturing issues

I would like to see more save slots its silly having 1 its been the case on every Train Sim and now we are getting 7 it seems theres still only 1 save slot you would of thought that would of been implemented a long time ago frustrating

Likewise, I’ll be really surprised if they ever fix this. Just the way DTG has handled this over the months/years gives me no confidence. Acting like it’s the no.1 priority (probably because they had no choice) followed by silence with the occasional “we’re making good progress” when asked. And then to announce TSW7 with fancy graphics settings and lighting updates for PC and to mention nothing about console issues/fixes is beyond a joke.

If DTG are not able to make content run to a reasonable standard (this includes using full layers) on all platforms then they need to make that clear from the outset and maybe consider a different pricing structure.

As an Xbox player I get the pleasure of paying the most money for probably the worst performance.

Not a good idea. A savegame includes specific data about the route and about each train that runs on it. If a game patch changes the route or any of the layered trains that run on it the savegame can potentially stop being compatible and cause any number of issues.

If you have a big number of savegames any patch will cause trouble with several of them.

Get used to using savegames only when you can't finish a run today and finish it the next time you play. Keeping a savegame for a long time automatically increases the chances of it not working properly.

Clearly the game is moving in different directions for console and PC. For PC, enthusiasts will get "epic" settings and all the rest. For console, simplified controls and Thomas. So, I wouldn't expect any console-specific issues to be getting extra attention or maybe even addressed going forward. Perhaps the plan is just to wait for next-gen consoles which will essentially be PCs anyways. In the meantime for sure we will get occasional reassurances or half-measures, but are blurry textures really an issue for someone who buys the base game for console (and perhaps a few DLC), plays in a simple way and doesn't have any frame of reference? I'm sure plenty of people buy this game on console and never even identify an issue. Obviously enough so that DTG can continue business as usual and not really worry about it too much. I'm not saying not to play on console as I am on Series X and don't plan on stopping (although definitely just going for free upgrade this time around). But the experience on console is quickly becoming a situation of take it or leave it. Whether that's acceptable or not is up to each player.

You do realise that simple controls and Thomas (both the DLC and the seperate game) aren't just for console users. PC has them too

So that buyer buys a game on a console that is designed for consoles and PC. Then they start buying more DLC because the game works well on their console. Then there is a tipping point and problems with their game start. Then they find out that the console is on the sidelines and the main platform is PC. That will be a very disappointed customer. And that is my case and many other future buyers.

Of course, that's obvious. But from my perspective, if your average consumer was just thinking about picking up the game on a whim, having some fun and driving some trains, then they probably are going to buy it on console, which is the space where they probably play most of their games. Certainly, those of us buying the game for our children are not likely to allow them to play it on our expensive, specialized gaming PC - they will get the console version. There is nothing wrong with any of this; people can and do play how they like. But these groups of consumers do not seem as likely to notice or care about the console issues we are talking about. Conversely, things like simple controls and Thomas might greatly matter to these sorts of players. I see two main sources of income for TSW: casuals on consoles who spend a lot as a group, and enthusiasts on PC who spend a lot individually. DTG is catering to both of these groups.

These are valid points, but from DTG's perspective, what are the most likely outcomes?

    A) Someone who is more of an enthusiast buys the game on console but starts to notice flaws. Through many available sources they learn about how the game is different on PC, so they move to that space and spend money there. They might even continue to support the game on console at a lower level as well.

    B) Someone who is more of an enthusiast buys the game on console but starts to notice flaws. However, for whatever reason they don't have access to a good enough PC to merit a switch. So, they continue to buy in the console space, because they still want to drive trains. Perhaps they will not buy as much as if the game was up to PC standards, but they will still buy. Even at a slower rate, eventually they will probably build up a nice library of DLC, which of course also makes it harder to leave that space.

People on console might be disappointed, but to my mind not enough of them will stop spending money on the game to make a difference. Perhaps I am incorrect but the way things are going lately seem to reinforce this view.

I agree that the console issues will probably never completely go away. Over time things might incrementally improve. Perhaps the problems will be "solved" when new consoles come out. Or perhaps not. There does not seem to be the required intersection of technical ability and economic necessity to get stuff done in this space.

I'm not sure where you’re getting this impression because up until TSW released on consoles, train simulators were pretty much exclusively a PC market share game. Going back to the MSTS days 25 years ago, then TS Classic, Run8, Trainz, OpenBVE, and the World of Subways series. All integral games in train simulation history and all targeted only to the PC market.

I see that PC users are getting a lot more features than console players, and if I'm being left behind by the developer because of the platform I play their game on then I'm going to be less inclined to give them money. Why should I have to wait until December for features PC players are getting in September and even then I don't know how well it'll run.

Also, if sales really are divided evenly between players on each platform Dovetail risks alienating up to 2/3 of their audience, and more importantly paying customers, unless they can make good with that player base fast.

So confirmed on the roadmap work is still ongoing and confirmed they are starting to work on the coding of the base game.

As I have said before thats a 2-3 year project so I guess we may have a fix by TSW9.

PCs cost more money so of course they’re gonna get more advanced features. It's not matter of fairness, but just capability. It’s just how DTG had to cut timetable services for gen8 consoles, or how the Series X and PS5 pro get higher fps.

There is a lot more nuance to this than I think you are allowing for. In regards to fairness, one could argue that, since the game costs the same no matter what, then no single version should have more advanced features. At least for gen 8 you could upgrade to gen 9 and still have all your DLC. This is not possible if moving to PC, expect perhaps on Xbox for PC. But I think the bigger issue is not just that PC has more advanced features. PC has had mods forever and there has not been a general outcry from console players. The problem is that PC is getting what seems to be a major graphics upgrade, while the main issues that consoles are facing are not being fixed, including of course blurry textures. So, again, for the same price, PC players will have access to "epic" graphics, while consoles will be stuck with the same texture problems. I don't think it's completely wrong to consider this a matter of (un)fairness.

Well just saying if anyone bought a console and expected the game to be the same as on a high end PC then you were greatly missinformed.

As a Series X player myself I have never expected the game to be on par to what a high end PC provides and I would think DTG wouldn't hold back PC from evolving as unlike console that have a set configuration for a set number of years PC's are evolving every year.

And considering we paid less than half the price of a high end PC you can't expect it to be an equal experience.

Even on PS5 and Series X we are and have always been set at between medium and high settings to PC's.

As I said back in December when they announced they were focusing on the blurry texturea thatbit sounded like a multi year project and judging fron what was said on this roadmap we still have a long way to go.

TSW9 no more blurries is my prediction.

I do wonder whether they'd be quicker dealing with it if Microsoft and Sony had refund policies more in line with that on Steam...

You say this but difference between medium and ultra in a lot of games isn't all that big, honestly you have to go low and most games to get really noticeable cutbacks visually. You buy a PC for visual clarity and frame-rates, kind of like buying a 4K Blu-ray vs Blu-ray/DVD, you still expect the other versions to be content complete. Cutting playable content is actually really unusual, and TSW does that a lot now.

I totally agree as I said in a different thread I'm happy with the graphics settings on Series X. I just want/should be able to play all my content without having to remove layers to make it work without the blurry textures.

But some on the forums seem insulted that PC get higher visual settings than we do as thats basically all they get different than us. And that was still going to happen even if the blurries were fixed.
