If you expect that you better stop playing TSW... TSW will never be 100% constant 60fps.... Thats not possible due to how the game is build. You always noticed a small portion of loading/stutter

Tearing can appear on any FPS which differs from the screen refresh rate. If FPS drops below 60 or rise above it(on display with 60 Hz refresh mode), you'll likely get choppy frames. Enabling frame sync will help prevent this.
The author initially said that FPS drops below 60, under such conditions frame sync is needed(V-sync or freesync).

Where did you get the information from that he have a 60hz monitor?

I have never seen screens with a refresh rate below 60(except for old TVs). So it's just an example, insert any numbers and nothing will change.

Yeah but you need a higher fps amount then the amount of Hz that you monitor delivers to get tearing... In other ways its not possible so when you maximize your fps to 60 you never come above you're monitor Hz. It's not a magic program to get better FPS or more stable gameplay when you activate v-sync. Its only prevent tearing

Note also that if you run borderless full screen it goes through Windows DWM which adds its pseudo screen sync which often overrides other in game / control panel / monitor settings

If you have a 5090 why are you even using LS now?

Nvidia launched Smooth Motion last year for 40xx cards and above which does everything LS scaling did but built in on the card/firmware.
Just enable it forTSW in the Nvidia App.

My wife's laptop, when connected to a monitor, strictly limits the screen refresh rate to 50Hz at a resolution of 3440x1440. The monitor could be larger, but...

Seconded, Smooth Motion is superb. I've enabled it for TSW on my 4070 Ti Super, I've locked the game to 50fps so I'm getting a very nice 100fps for the most part.

This is old news I’m afraid, and something that’s been tested and adjusted a million times over. The mod is not to blame for default behaviour.

That command is in the Birmingham to Crewe preset, but it is set at 0.1. Any less than that causes insane shadow flickering at some of the stations, and I’ve seen that happen with it set as high as 0.09. It’s up to you what you set, I would prefer it to be set to 0.001 (as low as it can possibly go and as it is on most routes) but it makes the experience borderline unusable at a number stations, with New Street itself being the worst offender. In the latest version of the mod I’ve just removed the command entirely for that route and left it default

Obviously if you do as suggested and add that line then you will have a duplicate command which will cause issues of its own. If you wish to change it you need to edit the line in the requisite preset.

ps In the two pictures you are different distances from the AED, so of course the shadow will draw differently.

Ah thanks i have seen it now. Then i have missed that! :) And no i'm not blaming you're mod in anyway :) Is it possible that this line is added in the 6.1 version? And not before? Maybe i have missed a version...

It’s always been there but previously I used much lower numbers for it. I moved it to the main ini file and set it to 0.01 because I’d been seeing these flickering shadows on a number of routes (oddly it seems to be at it’s worst with any route with WCML in the title, but that is not exclusive). Having thought about it some more I believe it’s to do with light baking, because it always happens at stations that are baked (New street, Euston etc)

Anyway, on the routes where 0.01 causes this flickering I had increased the number until I no longer saw the problem occurring then added that to the ini for that specific route.

No probs. It’s not ideal because it does improve things quite a lot but the flickering is definitely a problem. If my hypothesis is correct though about it being baking related perhaps there’s something can be done.

Should I expect a mod update with new routes? I'm definitely not rushing you.

It's not like the situation with Liberec Stara Paka Route, where the mod update unexpectedly came out quite quickly.

I've been playing around with Smooth Motion on my 4080, and, I kinda prefer Lossless Scaling?

I run in 4k and sometimes struggle to hit 60 fps unless I run on medium in-game settings.

With LS, I set fps in-game to 30, and then used LS to bring that up to 60. Of course I get the odd stutter, but it seemed very smooth all things considered.

With Smooth Motion I upped the frame rate in-game to 60 as 30 was just too low for a smooth experience, and I feel the little mini-stutters are much worse than with LS.

Doesn’t sound like you have it set up correctly then. Smooth motion does what Lossless Scaling does WRT to frame generation, but does it better.

Which .exe mate, there are 2, 1 for the launcher and another for the actual game itself, make sure you point it towards the .exe in WindowsNoEditor/TS2Prototype/Binaries/Win64 otherwise it will not work.

It does sound like you haven't enabled it to the correct .exe file..... There are two and it could be you have enabled one but are using the other to actually run the game. As others have said you need to enable it for nthe .exe in the Win64 Binaries folder and then also ensure you are opening that same .exe when you start TSW.

To check you have correctly enabled SM for TSW do the following press "alt Z" and then select "Statistics" at the bottom.... Then select "View All".... Then enable FPS and Smooth Motion tick boxes along with anything else you want to see.

Then once in TSW press "alt R" and the HUD will display at the top right of the screen this will then show you the current fps and whether Smooth Motion (SM) is enabled or not.

Can I ask you to make an .ini version for the Thames Valley addon? Johannes has made some weird changes to the night lighting, and the average .ini does not work for this addon.

The problem is that everything is extremely dark. Even the street lighting doesn’t shine far enough, which makes the whole scene look very dim. The clouds are also extremely dark at night.

If you could create a fix, it would be very welcome.

    Thanks in advance!

Just as an aside, I find that setting fog to anywhere between 0.005 to 0.01 in God Mode does wonders for night driving; it adds just enough haze to lift the gloom.

What settings in the ini do i change to get the lighting of the track ahead a bit brighter?
Still seems way too dark for me

Alright, now that TSW 7 is coming soon, I wonder if this will still be needed or updated. I really love this mod and it's been awesome, but I wonder if the Epic settings/ all the graphic enhancements that comes with TSW 7 will carry on to the older routes. I have a feeling that we will still need GodMode and this mod for those routes, or maybe not, but not sure how it would all work, we'll just have to see. :)

Come TSW7 this mod should, hopefully, no longer be needed. The mod (and much more) is now in the core game and will apply to all TODv4 routes both old and new should people wish as it is optional. The new Epic graphics settings are also taken from this mod.

Hopefully more info will be released on this in due course :)

It’s likely that I will do one final version for the older TOD3 routes etc once the game is released.

There’s more info in the upcoming roadmap but yeah, DTG asked me to help with it off the back off this mod and then Medway Valley which was very cool of them. Matt Ped has been really stellar in advocating for it and the engineers that have done the necessary bits of coding have been brill too.

I’d love to share more info right now but not sure that’s my place. Keep an eye on the roadmap!

It's even a little sad. A whole era of waiting for a mod version with new routes is ending. Waiting for a new version of the god mod... Well, it was wonderful, a titanic amount of work has been done. Thanks for everything!

It's brilliant news that DTG worked with you to put all your hard work and research over the last few years into the core game. I was thinking this morning whether they had worked with you to improve the lighting etc.... and whether the mod would be needed any more and you have answered the question.

Thankyou for managing to point them in the right direction.

Personal opinion, but I think TSW7 is a statement of intent. Not everyone will agree, but there is an awful lot here, and plenty to build on going forward. Them even being open to it was fantastic imho.

Nice! It's great to see that you've collaborated to make these improvements an official reality for the game. I suppose that the TSW 7 version of the mod will just apply for the pre-TOD4 routes then, that makes total sense now.

Question though, if you are running on the "Beast" preset currently without issues, is it safe to assume you can also run Epic settings and also would the "Beast" preset be needed for the TOD3 older routes once the next update for the mod is here? :)

And another question, do you still recommend using VSync on a g-sync compatible 180hz monitor, as well as triple buffering for TSW 7 specifically? Just wondering what to exactly tweak on the Nvidia side of my graphics before I get into the new stuff in the game. :)

Better question is what kind of GPU do you have? Minimum requirement for the Epic setting is a RTX5070 but for the enhanced lightning you dont need that and you can run its with lower specs as well. The enhanced lightning use a few fps but nothing out of the ordinary. And yes the new lightning in game is TOD4 only.

For me, I have a 5080 with Ultra 9 285K and 64 GB DDR5 RAM, it's been pretty smooth on the Beast preset so far minus the busy stations like Frankfurt or Stuttgart which is probably unavoidable since those take up a lot of memory with all of my layers activated. I think this can handle Epic as well. :)

For sure you can! I have a 5080 as well and the minimum requirement is a 4070(ti)(super) or a 5070.

That looks very desaturated with the color, reminds me of when you take a image SDR picture of a HDR image.

    Screenshot from 2026-08-26 12-16-52.png
    Screenshot from 2026-08-26 12-17-53.png

Like these compared to the next two-

    Screenshot from 2026-08-26 12-16-42.png Screenshot from 2026-08-26 12-17-59.png

-there's definitely improved shading, but the colors looks so drab, the sky on Mittenwaldbahn feels like a huge offender here. And the light rays in the other set really wash out the image, I actually like a lot of the gold-ish highlights in the non-improved version a lot more. The enhanced version actually reminds me a lot of the weird look Trainz 2019 & 2022 lighting has.

This was made at least 6 weeks ago and as it says, it was work in progress. Colours have been tweaked since then but hey, I really can’t please everyone. All I can say is if you don’t like it don’t use it, you have the option and that’s entirely your prerogative. I think (hope) though that when you see it for yourself you'll like it.

ps, Bright sunlight in your eyes at 0620 in the morning really does wash out what you see, that’s really the point of adding this element. You now have a reason to use the sun blinds though, they actually now serve a purpose and make a big difference. Once the sun rises above the horizon, or the season changes or any other number of things there are no rays, just like the real world. It was the beta teams feedback that shaped the changes to the colours, it's just that I'd recorded all the footage for the video before that point.

Also, DLSS etc works with all 40series cards or higher and is very nifty indeed. You'll have no issue running everything on max with a 5080, and I would strongly suggest using Nvidia smooth motion as well to really get the best and smoothest experience. The vast majority of the time my 4090 is sitting at 30-40% utilisation with everything on max.

Hi I use RenoDX to mod HDR in in to TSW and and have been using your ini file for a while now and ive discovered that your value for `r.SkylightIntensityMultiplier` is far to low for HDR and makes shadows look black. have you modified this value for the backed in ini file for TSW and if so is it changeable through existing ini file changes?

Yes and I presume yes. The game isn’t HDR compatible so I can’t account for that at the moment.

There’s more to be done with this hopefully which may (or may not) involve differing skylight intensity levels and of course, if the game ever becomes HDR compatible that would be a bridge to cross at the time.

Can I ask you something? Specifically, does the new lighting work on the console version of your track? Why is the feature in TSW 7 which extends the new lighting to TOD 4 tracks only available on PC? I understand all the other things, as they don’t work on console, but what was the reason for this?
