For those interested in the upcoming newquay to par route discuss anything you want to about this upcoming route below
Now personally im very excited for this route because this is the first cornwall route we are getting for the first time since train sim world 2 and if you remember west Cornwall was not the best at all so like many of you im hoping for this new one to be significantly better than west Cornwall local
Interesting that it lines up almost exactly with my very first post in the suggestions section in terms of route coverage. However, it's also a shame it appears to be a modern route, especially so if set after the recent resignalling which has stripped out a lot of the charm to Par and Lostwithiel. As I put it in my original suggestion post, it would be the perfect route to represent the transition from Diesel Hydraulics to Diesel Electrics (1973 to 1976), by which point the Westerns were seen on both passenger and China clay runs.
Very interesting branch line, set in my local county of Cornwall. A few things I know about this route... Interestingly, Luxulyan, bugle, roche and St Columb Road are all request stops, the only real stop between Par and Newquay is Quintrell Downs, so its going to be interesting to see it integrated into TSW. Newquay recently got its hourly timetable with the introduction of the Goss Moor Loop, wether or not the route is set during this i have no idea, but hopefully it is, as that means a more active timetable. The Lostwithiel - Fowey branch is included in this route too, which is a welcome addition. Wether or not that includes the bit of the cornish mainline between Par and Lostwithiel, I have no idea, but its good its included anyway. The freight only branch transports China Clay to Fowey docks, and is very scenic in real life, so its gonna be good to see this in game!
Yes, I believe there are a few IET services from Par and Newquay that run non stop. These are the Newquay - London Paddington and the return journey from Paddington to Newquay
Essex still has no routes in TSW, so Cornwall are doing well, must be over 50% of the county's rail network in or soon to be in the game.
I know I'm just an old fossil, but would much rather this had been set in the early 70's before the route was rationalised. Westerns and Warships on the Summer Saturday through trains (can't recall if 45's and 46's were allowed along there on inter regionals) and Class 120 DMU for the local service. That would be Day One from me.
What the difference between all these DMU like 101, 108 now 120? Sorry for prob dumb questino but I'm firstly too young and second not from the island
They were from a variety of different builders in different styles... This site has a wealth of information. RAILCAR.co.uk The Class 120's, known as Cross Country units, were renowned for their great comfort and had an infamous "farting" exhaust on pullaway!
Couldn't agree more, the BR Blue wizzo doesn't have a proper route to run on really and it would be the perfect route for that. Plus as the Creative Rail original proved, if modern stuff really is your bag, it's easier to have convincing modern (up until the recent resignalling) scenarios on this route rather than the other way round as places like St Blazey have been slowly rationalised.
Reasonably, that route ends in Plymouth which is very close to the border between Devon & Cornwall at the river Tamar, whereas this route is in mid Cornwall.
More screenshots of the Newquay Branch. This is way too close to home, as someone who lives in Cornwall!
That's a shame if it is set in 2026, prevents any convincing backdated scenarios, plus IMO a lot of the charm of Par and Lostwithiel was lost with the resignalling. Probably will skip getting this one now in all honesty.
There are upsides to it being set in 2026, it means a busier timetable. Before in 2025, it was two hourly between Par and Newquay, so if it was set then, there would be a lot less services. And in all honesty, apart from Newquays 2nd platform, and the Goss Moor loop, the route itself hasn't changed much in over 20 or so years, so, actual backdated scenarios are still possible, albeit set on a 2026 route.
Yes, as noted previously a 1970's setting with two timetables - weekdays with plenty of freight and DMU's, then summer Saturday with loco hauled through services would have been a dream come through. There may be more trains now, but we come back to the thorny issue of the service pattern repeating itself. And assuming we are getting the Class 175 to drive as per the prototype, it's a modern one handle DMU with so much power it will be no challenge to drive.
Aww man if there was 1970s or any br era this route would have been a day one buy but in the ultra modern era it’s disappointing so no challenge and no interesting stock
It isn't at the top of the releases i'm hyped about, but if the developer can follow the Firefly example, short can still mean mega detailed - had it just been Par to Newquay would have been very short, but quite like the idea of China Clay workings (as a lad from Stoke, i've seen these trains come through Stoke station from Cornwall)
Not to mention Newquay station was heavily rationalised from the late 80s if I recall, operationally it would be much more interesting. On Summer Saturdays there was sometimes an 08 used on ECS moves with a corresponding light engine move from the lead loco.
I’m assuming it will include the fairly short section on the GW mainline from Par to Lostwithiel so there’s not a big weird gap between Par and the Fowey branch. Either way the screenshots look superb and can’t wait to go past Golant with the china clay.
Great to see this based on 2026! Looking forward to another 80* run and who knows maybe down the line the developer might look to join Par with Plymouth to allow for a longer adjoining run (Ive said it elsewhere and while I know it wont happen but a WCLv2 with extension to Plymouth based on modern time would be such a welcome addition for the option to run continual services)
exactly this the BR fans become over critical and judgemental over a route that is not set in their preferred era
In terms of those kind of routes, JT is the king of it. They take their time when developing it, but when their products finish, they are well worth the wait. Apart from the core bugs and occasional bugs that happen on their routes, JT has never released a bad route at all, all their BR stuff have been top notch. I'd say, let JT handle BR routes, as they know best.
2026 means no Castle HSTs either, just for the record. This route will be just 150s and 802s, nothing else for passenger. 66s on freight, maybe the AAB 70 if we're lucky but that's it. Having been on this route last year I'm looking forward to the scenery, but rolling stock has pretty much nothing going for it.
I expect someone to probably mod a 2019 TT version or one before the castle sets where removed so there will be options available at some point..
Its not the most scenic of Cornish routes. Maybe Liskeard - Looe, Newquay to Falmouth and (Please!) a revamped St. Erth to St Ives in a similar format to Thames Branches could be a future option.
I did suggest something similar a few weeks back, with the Looe, Falmouth and St Ives branches in 1 route, like Thames Valley It would be like Thames Branches, but with more scenery potential, the St Ives Branch especially, the scenery irl on that branch is breathtaking, it definitely deserves another shot, after rivet totally bottled it.
Hopefully not until after there’s more br era third parties since well we only get one to two addons a year for the br era
Not likely when the majority of profit for the game is in the modern day. A massive portion, more than likely the outright majority of this game's playerbase are of a generation or age even younger than my own. The reason you don’t see them on here is because to that generation of internet users a dedicated forum such as this is an antiquated concept, they only interest themselves in social media platforms. It's easy to see evidence of this in pretty much any social media comment section or public chat space, numerous times I've had chats with people whose tastes are so modern they don't even like something like the 465. (For the record, 25 but my interest in railways knows literally no bounds, especially not era related. I'll buy into an ultra modern Overground route with the 710 just as happily as I'll buy into a pre-grouping steam route.)
It’s slowly killing the game due lack of variety in eras, like so many fan favourites are probably never going to come out if they keep like this. anyways I’m a example of that not being fully true since I’m young and love the br era and hell I’m trying to get scotrail to preserve class 43.003 (oldest hst power car on a mainline operator)
To be honest a 70s timetable is very possible if someone wants to put in the time to develop one in the editor. There is a free online PDF of the 1973 Bristol - Penzance WTT on TimetableWorld. If you are OK spending a few quid you can go into other years (I think 75 is possible, definitely a few in the 80s). Chuck in the fact someone has an archive of many Platform Marshalling documents and Set Diagrams for the Western region in the 70s which is also free, it can be done. I tried to do one for the Riviera Line but Newton Abbot is a huge bottleneck.
You and me both mate, but the harsh reality is that we and those players older than us who want so much BR era content are a niche, a minority, and in the world of economics the majority always wins. We should be grateful to even have JT alone, because between their first route and DTG's BR era content from TSW2020, the only BR era content we got for I think about three years was West Cornwall Local, and that was only the case because they couldn't get the GWR license.
