Great that a V100 is finally coming. 212s were a class of 381 locos and worked all over the country, mainly on branch lines. I assume these will be going onto Niddertalbahn as they worked it during the time period the route is set.
Absolutely stoked for this. One of my favourite classes of locos and still working to this day in limited numbers. Niddertalbahn would indeed be a good fit, at least with some artistic license. I'm not entirely sure how common they were on that route in the 90s, but they certainly seem to have been there in numbers in the 80s. Source Source Source
This is one of my favourites from the Zusi games. I know we have the similar 294, but the 212 is the main event! Hope it means at some point TSG will build us a period Obereruhrtalbahn as this was where they seemed to be most common in Zusi. It would be nice to have that route to TSW graphics standards and, as good as Zusi is, a game where you can actually save your progress. All we need then is a 216 and a V200 and vintage German diesel substantially complete.
Would be awesome to maybe later get the VT 98 along a Niddertalbahn Gameplaypack. I'm also very excited about the 212!
...and even some V200s are still in service! Recently saw one in person hauling a transformer transport. True enough, the Bundesbahn traction is filling up nicely at this point. Here's hoping we'll stay on this track (no pun intended) and keep filling in the gaps. Oh, that would be lovely. As nice as the 628 is, she can't hold a candle to the classic VT 98. I seem to recall that TSG was once looking into making one for TSC but something stopped that. Maybe one day
I'm pretty hyped about this unexpected announcement too, the V100 has been a staple of West German railroads for decades Of all the routes we've got so far, it would be best suited on Niddertalbahn indeed. Just imagine a mid-80's timetable where it runs the route accompanied by the blue/beige 218, Umbauwagen and silver n-Wagen It could also completely replace the anachronistic 628 in Linke Rheinstrecke's 1984 timetable... and it would feel right at home on Neckartalbahn too, if only on smaller duties
It's probably too early for anyone at TSG to say (or maybe they can't say) but how will the sounds on this compare to the Zusi 3 version? The latter are very good to my ears but it has been asserted before that not all the sounds in Zusi are that accurate and a lot of aliasing and synthesising goes on.
Considering TSG's eye (ear?) for quality, I'm not concerned. I don't know the Zusi 3 version, but a good portion of these locos are still in use for private companies, construction services or historic societies, so there's plenty opportunity for sound recording Anyway I'm really looking forward to getting this loco, plus it's the perfect opportunity to put the Umbauwagen to good use, they go very well together
ln the slightly revised immortal words of Weyland Yutani from the Alien films… “Priority one — insure purchase of Class 212 for gameplay. All other considerations secondary. Any other DLC expendable.” Apart from the Neckartalbahn, Dutch route and Romania route of course.
Remember these when I was a lad living in Germany in 1969, a regular pulling a few Silberlings from Sulzbach to Saarbrucken and back! Been waiting a long time to see this ingame.
