Setting aside the route and loco DLCs, which are a huge smorgasbord, it seems that just in terms of upsdating and upgrading the core program this is the biggest overhaul we have seen since TSW2. DX12? Ray tracing? DLSS? "Epic" (ie JetWash) lighting? The freight mode? Passenger behavior improvements? I don't think we have seen anything with so many improvements in one go for six years

    Where?
You mean sunshufts and god rays? It's not a ray tracing and has nothing to do with it.

I'm not into conspiracies, but I would not be surprised if these graphical improvements were pushed for TSW7 because of the success of Running Train and graphics comparisons between the two.

I think they just noticed there were lots of requests for the updated ini from Jetwash after the release of Medway Valley.

They probably also noticed that some ini configurations worked great for some routes and had bad effects on others. This could cause discontent and even the return of newly purchased DLC when it does not perform well with the modified ini.

Probably someone at DTG thought "hey, why don't we apply the ini settings for them? This way people that has the hardware can have the improved graphics even if they don't have a clue about what the ini is. Also less users will touch the ini and then blame us for the bad results the modified ini causes on some DLCs."

Another nice bonus this time around that isn't being mentioned is the lack of a time limit on the free starter pack.

so looking at the whole year lineup i guess there won't be winter survey. i wondering if tsw8 will have features that were in the 2025 survey like save game slots or manual eot on couplers. but dtg is very busy for the whole year with the line up.

I suspect also the abandonment of Gen 8 freed them up to catch up to the 2020s

Do we know anything about HDR in TSW7? I am currently using TSW6 with HDR turned on via the engine.ini and ohhh my... the signals and actually any lightsource acts like a lightsource should, but it only works with dx11 because dx12 ruins the tonemapping (i guess). TSW7 will use dx12 natively so if there isn't a proper HDR implemented than we have to look at a bland, undersaturated something without able to see the signal aspects from miles/metres away (turning HDR off turns my oled to a tn panel from the early 2010s)... I know I will be able to use RTX HDR, but it is far from perfect compared to a built-in HDR solution

I just placed my pre-order for the deluxe edition or TSW7. I am saving up for my first AMD GPU as I would like to try something different for my upgrade. For the last few years, I have been using Nvidia GPU's, from GTX550Ti --> GTX570 --> GTX1060 and now RTX3070. From what I found online, it looks like Radeon GPU's offer more bang for the buck with higher amounts of VRAM and raw performance overall. I am eyeing a 16GB Radeon RX9070XT around the late fall so I can run everything max with the hopes of building a new AMD system in 2028-2029 on the future AM6 or late AM5 platform

I have had a quick mess with Auto HDR but it leads to weird flashing when clicking the right button to come out of free look.

Will the live weather feature apply to all routes or just TSW7 routes?

I assume it will be for all routes. The FAQ makes it clear that Freight Hauler mode will only be compatible with new routes, but there's no mention of Live Weather being restricted in the same way.

Some people think you can do raytracing with a reshade filter, it's so misunderstood as a technology.

This/ The V 100, like the the similar V 90 (BR 294) and DR V 100 (BR 204) was a general-purpose engine, like the EMD GP-series, and like the British Class 20 (although they had to pair those to get enough power).

I’m with you on the GTX 1060 — I also used this graphics card for quite some time.
Radeon offers excellent graphics cards that many people ignore due to their conservative nature and the myths about “bad drivers,” high HotSpot temperatures, and other early AMD issues. When buying hardware, you should focus on pure performance, not on Nvidia’s marketing tricks with their DLSS and other gimmicks. Because, first and foremost, we’re paying for the device, not for software technologies. I’m using the RX 7700 XT; the RX 9070 XT will provide excellent performance for resolutions up to QuadHD.

Which is still funny, considering Nvidia removed the display of this parameter. But enthusiasts have managed to find a way to read it, and the results are not encouraging.

I don’t know the specifics of the temperature situation with Nvidia graphics cards, but temperature readings that used to be considered “hot” may now be within the normal operating range. On hot summer days, they can heat up to ~70 °C (158 °F), and that’s normal. It all depends on the specific graphics card and model; the smaller ones tend to run hotter.

When was a GPU running at 70c a concern?

The smaller what? overall card size? cooler size? core area? process node?

Temperature limits are roughly the same, with a slight increase to 105°C. There's the chip temperature itself, and then there's the temperature of the chip's hottest spot. And Nvidia hid the latter. And when they were able to look at it, the temperatures for many were such that if it were Radeon, such cards would be replaced under warranty.

For what it's worth, I asked Perplexity AI the following question regarding my own (Steam) Desktop setup for TSW 6:

"Provide optimum settings for playing Train Sim World 6 on my Windows 11 PC for: Windows 11, Ryzen 9 PC, 32Gb DDR RAM, RTX 5080 GPU, 4K 144 Hz G-Sync HDR Monitor, Nvidia Control Centre, NVidia App Train Sim World 6 In-Game settings."

The output Had the following headings and provided the settings for my system:

    Overall Philosophy

For your hardware, the goal is maximum image quality with smooth frame pacing, not simply chasing the highest FPS.

Train Sim World 6 remains partially limited by Unreal Engine CPU/render-thread behaviour in dense stations and complex routes. Your RTX 5080 is more than powerful enough for 4K.

    Target FPS: 90-141 FPS

    Windows 11 Settings

    Then set settings as follows:

    G-Sync Configuration

    Correct Configuration

    • G-Sync: On
    • NVIDIA Control Panel: V-Sync: On
    • In-Game V-Sync: Off
    • FPS Cap: 141 FPS (3 FPS below refresh rate)
This is the recommended modern G-Sync setup.

    Why?

Driver-level V-Sync acts as a safety net when frame rates hit the top of the G-Sync range.

Running V-Sync in both NVIDIA and the game can increase latency and occasionally create micro-stutter.

    r.Streaming.PoolSize=12288

This can reduce texture streaming hitching when approaching large stations.

Always back up the . INI file first.

    If FPS Drops

    Adjust in this order:

    First

    Reduce:

    • Shadows
    • Vegetation/Foliage
    ________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    Expected Result

You should see approximately 90-141 FPS depending on route complexity, with excellent HDR image quality, smooth G-Sync operation, low input latency, and minimal stutter on your RTX 5080 / Ryzen 9 system.

    _______________________________________________________________________________________________________
    _______________________________________________________________________________________________________

I asked the same question in Microsoft CoPilot and got a virtually identical result.

The outcome in my case has seen a significant overall improvement (especially frame rates above 70 FPS virtually all the time) in my in-game experience. What it will do for you ...?

    IMPORTANT

(Please ensure you keep a copy of all your current settings before you try the above question in AI for your own specific system).

You'd probably have found more helpful settings that you can be sure don't have any inaccuracies or misleading suggestions, and where you will see detailed descriptions of what each feature in engine.ini does, by searching these very forums, since that's undoubtedly part of what the LLM scraped to get that ..

For the first time, I'm leaning towards not pre-ordering/buying the latest version. For better or worse I've always pre-ordered the next iteration of Train Sim and I've been playing since MSTS (Microsoft / Kuju days).

Obviously, some of those versions were physical discs so I have no record of how much I played them but looking at my Steam account, TS Classic has the most hours, and from the 'World' franchise, TSW3 was my longest played. I've only played TSW6 for 13.5 hours which isn't good value for money for me! I've even played Wonders of Sodor more.

I think I'm probably just bored with it sadly. [And fed up with the bugs]. The routes, locos and eras are often very similar these days. I'm happy with modern stuff to a degree but I miss BR and earlier, and I very much miss steam.

The NTP remaster and the freight mode both sound good but I fear the freight mode won't be as engaging as it could be / not that well implemented. I'd really love to see a proper career mode and something to make me feel like I'm actually part of the railway, like it's a real job and the trains driven and service provided matters. I'm sure how that would look in game. Hopefully you understand what I mean.

I really want TSW7 to be a success but I think for me right now, it isn't worth buying.

You're not the only one who is utterly sick of boring modern units. We have just celebrated 200 years of rail, and arguably the most popular eras of the railway are that from the 1930s to the 1980s - yet it's never really catered for, no ambition or imagination. Just an endless obsession with Desiros, or Electrostars, or other modern units with little character. In 7 iterations of TSW, we have a small handful of locomotives. We have eras completely disregarded continuously, such as Network SouthEast. We have no Mk1 commuter units, no Mk2 or Mk3 EMUs, barely any steam. Such a waste.

This could be good, but how do you start it? As a dispatcher or a guard until you've got enough XP from good services to be allowed to drive a train. Start with some route learning scenarios, shorter stopping services before you get the serious express stuff? Or go into hauling freight. It could be a really interesting game mode if it worked right and was sufficiently engaging.

I'll be honest, while stuff like the 101 is endlessly fun to drive, I do have a soft sot for really getting to know the familiar stuff I ride on regularly inside out.

I said it way back, but I think the big issue with career in this game is each DLC gives far too little to do on their own. In truck sim you got a dozen trucks with full customization with a decent sized base map. MSFS gives you the whole world and something like 50 aircraft types that cover basically the whole spectrum of aircraft types out the box. A lot of routes in TSW though only come with one or two types, and more importantly the routes are so limited in scope. Like when you think about it imagine making a career mode for a route like Isle of Wight or Bakerloo, that's the minimum use case you have to design around.

Honestly I wish DTG would bundle a few routes as core content that doesn't get swapped out each year. It's kind of absurd how many times now they needed to bundle in the CSX SD40-2 when they could just include Sand Patch as a freebie at this point. And let's be honest, the amount of people actually buying SPG must be tiny this many years on.
