With freight, I hope CSX Croxton yard near secaucus is included as well as the group of freight tracks heading up to North Bergen, Ridgefield and Fairview. There is alot of opportunity for CSX and Norfolk Southern freight layers to be introduced with these yards along with the yard just north of Suffern by the interstate 87/287 NYS Thruway interchange. I also hope we see New York and Susquehanna freight trains layer in
So on the Road map Stream is was mentioned the Bergen line route goes from Hoboken to Suffern .Also mentioned on TSS channel https://www.youtube.com/live/BD9tUXTWe8Q?t=6371&is=NVje0c3ADwDX9Vwq
That's DTG for you lol especially the US routes, but yet that Dresden-Leizpig or whatever it's called had an extension after Rhesa. The additional branch nit to mention the S-Bahn connection( which should've been in the game to begin with when it was only to Rhesa). But you can't even add the Main Line barely splitting off....Heck even HRR has the splits after Essen and still connects back to the endpoint in the game...No excuses from them.
Who said we weren't getting the main line as well? Not DTG. We don't know the full scope yet as it too early in development so maybe hold off until we actually know more details probably during the December streams.
season of reveals december 2026 probably but the following occurred to me, at the time of the TSW6 launch, DTG had two "in-house" projects underway (stuttgart-heilbronn and ny-stamford) since the stuttgart route was further along than the stamford one, it was released as early as december judging by the fact that the bergen route is in the early stages of development, whereas, on the other hand, we don't even have that information for the amsterdam route, it is perhaps reasonable to assume that the bergen route is further along and might arrive first (the eager part of me hopes for december, but the realist in me says we won't see it until next year)
I hope so for freight on that route too. It would make it much more authentic and would give us much more variety. Otherwise it would be disappointing like the Morristown Line last year, where you have to watch on silent freight yards.
Most definitely, the good thing is, we now know it will go to Suffern at minimum. Hoping it makes it up to Harriman or Port Jervis. Harriman would be 15 miles of additional trackage north of Suffern and Port Jervis approximately 40-50 miles northwest of Suffern. Agreed, while Morristown and NYT have should have had freight, I really hope the Bergen mainline have freight. Since Gen8 has been officially dropped, this is DTG's chance to add as many layers as possible, especially now that we'll be able to push the boundaries with epic settings, we can now push TSW to it's true limits
My preference would be to include the Main Line and end at Suffern, rather than go past Suffern but exclude the Main Line. Suffern is a logical end point and also the absolute end of NJT services. An extension to Port Jervis would be scenically interesting but sees comparatively much less traffic. Perhaps as a separate DLC? Unlikely but who really knows.
I’m pretty sure we’ll get them because we get all of the lower level services at Secaucus already on the Morristown route (and I believe NEC Trenton as well). I too would love to see the Main line added, especially since it sounds like they are mapping it to Suffern. With Morristown out to Hackettstown, I get and even not including the Montclair line because of how many additional stops would have to be included. But passed Dover it’s a pretty boring ride of NJ countryside which is mostly trees). If anything I’m surprised they didn’t include Gladstone line since it meets at Summit, but I guess they’d have to go all the way to the end. (I’m also selfishly sad we didn’t see them go out to the Lackawanna Cutfoff)
Matt stated in the roadmap stream that the route will only include the Bergen line from Hoboken to Suffern.
I think since it’s still early in development, this is our chance to plead with dtg to include the portion of the Main line between Secaucus and Ridgewood. It’s only about 16 miles and 7 stations. This route will not feel right without it. I love chaining services- imagine coming to Hoboken from the Bergen county line and then running back to Suffern on the Main line. It’s just fun gameplay. If they don’t include it, I don’t see them ever coming back to it. At least with Morristown, they could revisit and extend it to Hackettsown, or add the boonton or gladstone branches, and release it as a core route, but if they miss the main line, there is no logical reason to add it later. If they lack development time, I would be fine with less authentic scenery, or if they have to charge more but I hope the route is complete.
It's okay as long we will get freight action. Otherwise it feels unauthentic like Morristown Line, New York Trenton and LIRR Commuter.
I think the problem is obvious - the NS route is not the DTG route. DTG does not have already-made model. And, as we see from other routes, they're trying to move away from "you need 100500 other DLCs for one layer" approach.
Disappointing. Do you think they consider the reaction when they're deciding on which route to build? Like, there's almost always a "it should go x more miles" factor, but they have to know building only one half of two parallel lines that share a terminus is going to annoy people. Especially since it means we'll never see the Main Line now as it isn't an attractive standalone package (similar to Gladstone branch not coming w/Morristown) There are other NJT lines they could have chosen that would have worked better imo. NJCL is always highly requested and would have been a chance to finally fix the NYT timetable and add more NJT equipment to that route as well. Montclair-Boonton would have been cool as well if fully merged with Morristown. Ah, well...
On the apparent exclusion of the Main Line, Part 1: For the Boonton Line to be excluded from MTN as I have said was understandable due to length/number of stations. I would also not consider it integral to the M&E Lines. While the stub services, especially Dover to Denville, leave me wanting more, it's also just two stations. So it's not like this is a service that I really decide to drive very often. I also feel like the MTN timetable is robust as it is, even without having end-to-end Boonton services. On the other hand, assuming that there is no Main Line then of course many services from Suffern will "end" at Ridgewood. As opposed to MTN, this feels like it would have a pretty detrimental effect on the timetable because the Bergen Line by itself surely has much less traffic than MTN. So the loss of Main Line end-to-end services will have a much greater effect than not having the Boonton services. I don't see running shuttles between Ridgewood and Suffern as being something that will get a lot of playtime. I think that not having the Main Line will be "felt" much more here than missing Boonton from MTN.
On the apparent exclusion of the Main Line, Part 2: However, it has been indicated that we are not getting the Main Line. In this case, we can say that having full AI including all Main Line and Port Jervis trains must be included. I'm okay with using all-NJT consists for Port Jervis trains and this happens in reality also. Of course full AI out of Hoboken and at Secaucus also. Can we increase traffic on the Bergen Line by diverting as much as possible to the Bergen Line, including all Port Jervis trains? Yes that can be done (I believe in reality Port Jervis trains can switch back and forth as needed also). We might also have a good justification for not having the Main Line by having really excellent freight. In reality this line sees few frieghts and then mostly at night. As mentioned Croxton is right at the end of the Bergen Line and having a few midday locals between Suffern and Croxton I don't think would stretch realism too much. You can have your local turns at night also, and besides that how about some through-running on off hours, in reality not usually done but possible in the game because of "diversions." We can also get really creative and consider traffic between Croxton and the Newark Industrial Track and South Kearny. We can take advantage of the fact that a lot of this trackage has already been created in NYT and/or MTN, but barely used if at all. Make the freight as much of a reason to buy this as the passenger. That would be something.
Very even while the main line freight like H70 goes from Croxton to Suffern through the Bergen line. Services are as follows 74 on the main and 72 on Bergen line. most of the empty moves go through the main line but is not on common for the dispatcher also send them through the Bergen line. Hopefully the TT author takes that into consideration. Most of the Port Jervis go through Bergen line. Gameplay wise you could be looking at full Port Jervis express runs, realistic deadhead moves from Waldwick to Suffern, As far as the Main line services you would get a solid 22-minute run from Ridgewood to Suffern and vice versa, and a 15-minute sprint from Secaucus to Hoboken.
Well on the freight side, there are pretty much like 4 locals in total that NS still operates on. Course without the Main, you've got like half of that, so to speak: one/two down at Croxton and one at Suffern. Guaranteed, one of the locals is technically a main hauler through Bergen, while the others pretty much operate like one in the day and one at night. It ain't much, service-wise, but when is that a problem from other routes before (and I do mean before Stamford). [Note: Did forgot about the NYSW yard at Passiac Jct. Whether that's gonna have an impact on the freight side or not is too early to tell]
It would also be nice if the Bergen Line includes fixes to passenger behavior around the Multilevels. The fact that no one is getting on or off them when you are at low level platforms is getting ridiculous considering how long this has been an issue.
You are absolutely right, I just drove a service last night and still shaking my head while watching nobody get on or off at the low levels. It's kind of hilarious because you can see all the passengers on the platform start to move around after the doors are open, like they are trying to get on the train but there's an invisible wall. Hilarious but sad that it hasn't been fixed in an entire year, and also that nobody has even bothered to say that this is something that is being "looked into." While it would be great if Bergen finally gets DTG to fix this, it will conversely be ludicrous if Bergen releases and has the same problem.
Yeah because the bergen county line has a good mix of low and high level platforms. Dtg didn’t mention but I assume alp45 and multilevel coaches would be included in the timetable
Not all, you have services like 1110,1112,1114,1116,1118 that start out at Suffern and go via the mainline to Hoboken
Only rush hour local trains go to/from Waldwick(or Ridgewood occasionally). Rush hour express originates in Suffern and uses bergen county line. All off-peak weekday trains go to/from Suffern.
It’s a possibility that it will only go as far to Suffern. Both Main & Bergen County Line both stop at Suffern before heading off either Suffern Yard, going up to Metro North Station like Tuxedo, Sloatesburg or wait for a couple of minutes or so to head back to Hoboken
Croxton Yard is owned by Norfolk Southern. NS has trackage right to move equipment like cargo or trash through the Bergen Line plus certain area that has yard siding. Rarely see NYS&W coming through unless it’s an emergency. You’ll see them passing close by PVL Line
My kinda of route but very little about US trains is the comet like a diesel version of the arrow. If wrong please correct me.
Comet is a set of passennger cars with cabcar. No engines. Requires a locomotive/engine for operations. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comet_V
Yup, the NJT comet V can work with any NJT mainline locomotive. Their upcoming Multilevel III is like a mix between the push pull comet series and electrified Arrow's. It looks alot like the MLV I and MLV II but runs like an EMU. Supposedly, it can also be used when push pull service is needed
Do the low level Secaucus routes run the Multilevels? Only time I’ve taken or seen a multilevel there was to the Meadowlands. Mind you I usually only take the routes that go west/south (NEC, NJCL) but the few times I’ve gone on the lines out of Hoboken north, I’ve been on the Comet Vs.
You also can’t get to it from Hoboken since it runs under the lines that come out of the tunnel, so for this map perspective it’d be a one-way in and out since I assume they won’t model the tracks down to the yard next to the NJT Meadowlands Center. Now in the Morristown line in TSW, I have gotten to Croxton Yard but find places to go “off the map”, so I’m sure it will be modeled the same, I just don’t know how far up it’s going to go to reconnect with the line before the drawbridge (not that far, just curious if they’d model it).
They are not as common as the solid Comet V sets that are the norm for the Hoboken diesel/dual mode sets, but there are a few multilevel trainsets that usually turn at Suffern or Waldwick (it is rarer but not totally unheard of for them to go to Port Jervis). They run with a dual mode or a PL42. Case and point, a railfan video from a few months ago:
Just northwest of Secaucus, I notice the Bergen and Main Line (Port Jervis line) splits and then meets back up at Ridgewood Junction. I wonder if we'll get both portions of trackage featured before racing off to Suffern or if the below main line stations will be excluded - Bergen Line stations after tracks split before meeting back up for the NJT Bergen/Main line (Rutherford, Westmont, Garfield, Plauderville, Broadway-Fairlawn, Radburn-Fairlawn, Glen Rock-Boro Hall) - Main line stations after tracks split before meeting back up for the NJT Bergen/Main line (Kingsland, Lyndhurst, Delawanna, Passaic, Clifton, Patterson, Hawthorne, Glen Rock-Main Line)
They will probably block the section off map that trains run on the Morristown Line with just A.I coming in and out then make a re work on the track lines towards lower Secaucus to the other lines to make use entirely new since they are dropping Gen 8th
In extremely rare instances when there are equipment shortages or issues with the single level equipment, an NJT multilevel may be spotted running a passenger service up to Port Jervis. I saw it once and have seen very few videos online of it but for the most part, NJT MLV's primarily run south of Suffern yard
Plus some time during the day and night NS run down the track to go towards Suffern and other locations for light cargo and trash trains. Since we got the sets of trash rolling stock
Since they are dropping 8th gen. They should utilize the layering and sub for the ALP45 Bergen County Line, Arrow 3 Trenton and the GP40PH-2B for Morristown Line. Even though it’s a lot of work to layer it. They can also use the gameplay pack for all those routes to make a brand new timetable. That’s my suggestion
