Simple poll people. Who wants a Dark Mode for the menu and UI in TSW7? Could still be implemented before launch, as it's only cosmetic, but I'm getting blinded by the stream. Btw. would appreciate a Dark Mode for this very forum as well.
Yep 100% yes. Also the UI is all over the place with inconsistent colours everywhere it's like a 5 year old made it
Generally I don't mind what DTG have done with the menu but it absolutely needs a dark mode and some polish - the colours and font aren't consistent and half the time aren't even readable (eg light text on white background)
It looks good on your screenshots. During the stream, it felt like looking at snow on a clear afternoon. Did you darken the first screenshot or something?
Also if we're suggesting UI changes, can we pls get the Freight hauler mode in line with the other options. It looks so akward with it being the only one in the bottom row.
Also can you please return white color to the instruction and the distance? Because yellow distract your attention, like you're start speeding.
Are the pictures of the 3 new route placeholder? They look horrible. Where is the colour in the background?
They were just crudely taken using snipping tool from the Youtube feed. The screen may have been fading out when I timed the shot.
I agree - it looks like they just bunged it in instead of trying to make it fit into the UI. Something as simple as reducing the width of the buttons so they fit in a line would do.
And you didn't even show the menu while driving , I like the font and the red of TSW 7, but the white background is just hard on the eyes.
+1 for dark mode! I am over 70 , and my pork pies are not as good as they once were. A dark mode would help immensely.
Who thought that was a good colour scheme needs to get a pay cut because I think I just went blind after seeing that
This is what I thought the moment I saw it... Yellow, mixed with plain white text, on something that doesn't need your immediate attention is just bad UX. It's so freaking distracting...
Awful design. I voted for Dark mode or indeed we need the option to retain the TSW6 design. Why do these arrogant corporations think they know what is best and damn us to hell if we don’t like it?!
it's only yellow in the minimalistic hud, full hud is still fully white That's great level of consistency here....
I always have to have a rant about the UI and this year it will probably be a good one. Look out for that in the few days following release. I can already see poor readability of text in some areas. I need to use it myself for my full appraisal. I imagine the design is contracted out to the lowest bidder. In the picture above one of the barely readable menu items says Accessibility. The irony of that will not be lost on anyone with even the slightest visual impairment. How are they meant to read that extremely lightweight text on that bright background?
yes to this every day of the week, i don’t see how anyone could be against it. if you don’t want it, don’t use it
The overall design shift to rounded corners makes the UI feel a tad bit more modern, and different from what we had since TSW4? onwards, that only changed the accent color each year for the worse. But yeah, the improvements stop there. The color choices are really something weird, its feels like they put a guy who likes striking pink locomotives to be the person to judge a design is good, rather than a UX/Designer mindset person. I understood DTG hired someone on UX side so improvements to the menu and UI layout could come if they listen and not shove them under the rug. I don't think we need a dark mode necessarily, but it can be a solution, if they are unable to come up with a color palette that is okay with people of impaired vision while not being egregiously bright. They would need to tone the white towards gray a bit more. Also in the "In game" menus, they should make them have a static color background, not for visual effect, but for efficiency so that your GPU is not forced to render the scene behind at all times while you are paused, even if they cap the frames at 30, if you already do only 30FPS its not making it any lighter on your hardware when you put TSW in the background. The Freight Hauler position is terrible. I would much rather lose either the "Training" or "Free Roam" tiles if they cannot make them all a single line. Trainings are already covered by the journey mode, and the Free Roam I think is the one that spawns you in an empty route, while the "On Foot" from the timetable spawns you in the actual timetable. And dont get me started on that "yellow" in the minimal HUD. It appeared out of nowhere, requested by noone. While the text and the icon still have an ugly gray blocky backround when the UI design is now rounded. And the Distance label on the route monitor just the same. I imagine also the buttons which the text is longer than the background stayed, just with the new rounded corners.
As someone who regularly starts a route with journey, no they aren't always. Mainly the route introduction is missing from a lot of journey modes. My personal solution for this would be moving trainings (from older content) and introductions to the scenarios tab and putting it in a seperate category. Basically first you have a list with all the scenarios and bellow that the tutorials.
Ok, I can deal with the white (I must have my monitor brightness set to low or something because I can handle the white) but I can't deal with the buttons also being white. They blend in too much. If they want to keep the white background they should have buttons that look more like what the Options button looks like in that picture.
I think it makes sense to have it yellow if you have to stop or do something, and leave it white for "go via" and that kind of things.
Maybe, but it definitely should become yellow only when you're close enough to the instruction marker, not from 3+ miles.
It's the lack of choice that stands out. Having a dark mode as a choice should have been the first thing thought of when deciding to have a light UI. Having yellow text for objectives etc. should be a choice, not a forced design. It's the same as when the clock face timer for the normal HUD was suddenly replaced by the barber's pole from the minimal HUD, for TSW5 - I'd much prefer the clock face, others may prefer the barber's pole, but just give us a choice for all of these things, please!
The yellow elements of the HUD are super distracting. Can they please be bumped over to a high contrast mode for people who need that?
It looks like GTA 6 on a low‑res screen (color scheme) Are there any UI/UX designers on this forum? Shall we design a couple of screens?
I used AI just to see what the menu would look like in dark mode and personally I think it looks so much better.
First valid use of AI I've seen in a long time. Can't be that hard to task an intern with changing the UI's colour to something that doesn't give people migraines, seizures, hangover symptoms or attract insects and confuse birds to build nests in winter.
I cant stress enough how much this is needed. The UI that has been previewed in the past two streams is god awful. Whoever decided that that was the best choice of colours really needs a think about it. DTG please do the right thing and listen to the community on this one as at the end of the day, we are the ones playing the game.
I noticed this as well. The yellow highlights on the game HUD where is displays the action and the milage need changing. Yellow on the HUD to me signifies that I am doing something wrong.
This is the thing, isn't it? You should never use a colour that appears on signals for other HUD elements. We are always alert for those colours. We need to be to get the actual act of driving right. If nothing else this is a recipe for SPADs.
And they still haven't bothered updating the icons from the TSW4 and 5 ones... I was part of a group that gave feedback on the TSW3 UI before the game came out. Look at how they massacred my boy...
Well as mentioned in the stream nothing will likely change, the UI is basically here to stay. But they are taking in the feedback LOL.
I'm disgusted with the yellow text on the minimal HUD. I choose the minimal HUD as it's the least intrusive option. The yellow stands out in my peripheral vision. I hate it. Please revert it back to all white or give us text colour with HUD opacity and scale options so the individual player can choose their preference. And, as others have said, Freight Hauler menu tile had no thought and looks terrible plonked under the other 4 menu tiles!
